How to use Cure 1 and Cure 2 as WHM

Quick question :

I'm a 50 white mage and for healing, I always rely (95% time) on cure 2. Cure 3 is done when there is a big catastrophe and I have to max the player asap.

As I was doing instances. I often got told that i'm not using cure1 and I should.

I know that you can get a freeby for cure2 but at the endgame. It's not healing enough. Some can argue that it is for mp management or else.

so why and when should i use cure1

I use CureI a lot. Check your MND stats if you think it is feeble :) You can always buy the hymn from your GC and reallocate.

Anyway, CureI is more mana efficient, because you get the CureII freebie, and the Refresh equates better. Also, if you still think CureI is too small, pop Divine Seal.

When doing SRs in WP (in the olden days) :) I would pop DS, and spam CureI. Usually CureII popped after only 2-4 CureI hits.

CureII is not mana efficient for a default heal (ok for tight times, tho, I still use it a fair bit in critical times, as its crit hit value can by HUGE) - you can mitigate its over use to some extent, which does happen sometimes in danger moments, with Shroud. I pop SoS even if I don't think I absolutely need it, late in fights. It's free and makes sure that unforeseen moments of curing (a rez, basically) are no prob.

Others might have other things to say, or counter me. But, my advice:
1. Check your MND stats
Then
2 Pop Divine Seal for your CureI spams
3 Use your freebie CureII even when a CureI will do. Its free, after all! :)
4 Return to step 2 (DS has a quick cooldown in the greater scheme)

Oh, and don't forget MedicaII. Although situational, for larger parties where you could spend 5 x CureI sorting everyone, whilst your tank is getting a punch in the face, a MedicaII single cast does enough to sort the danger and get everyone back, whilst you return you attentions to tank.

Hi, my friend heals with me all the time and I tend to see her casting whatever spell will deal with the damage flow.
Cure3 is generally her cure bomb when everyone gets hit by big aoe damage.

I actually use cure 1 the most, I may be doing it wrong but to me it feel like the way the class should be handled (im a SCH main at fulli90) I spam cure 1 to spot heal and weave cure 2's in throughout if I deem dmg too heavy for cure 1 spam.

I am in no way saying this is correct but for me it seems to allow me to maintain good MP management while using cure 2 for harder hitting dmg, also I get free cure a lot this way allowing me to save even more mana! on hard hitting fights I will stick to cure 2 till things balance out.

im only lvl45 on my WHM atm so maybe I will play differently on lvl50 endgame content, :/

I precast Cure 1 if I have tons of mp then use Cure II when it procs or when there is more damage to cure. I rarely use Cure III unless it procs and there is a tight group of people with low hp standing together.

Don't spam Cure II. It's highly MP inefficient and makes your BRD (if you have one) cry.

Spam Cure I and make sure Regen is up at all times. If you need a temporary boost to healing, use Divine Seal as it's on a short cooldown. If you feel the tank is taking too much damage, he's either undergeared or not using his cooldowns properly, in which case you can use Virus or Eye for an Eye (both crossed from ACN). Make sure your weapon is up to date too, because if Cure I spam isn't healing enough, you're possibly undergeared as well.

The only times I use Cure II are when Freecure is up or when the tank's HP is dipping too low for comfort and a BRD is playing MB anyways. It's for spike damage and you shouldn't really be spamming it.

Cure 1 and Regen are enough to handle most situations.
Divine Seal+Regen, Cure 2 spamming, and Presence of Mind are for emergencies.

For players who had WHM as their first class, I think most of them learn by the time they're in Brayflox that relying on only Cure 2 instead of Cure 1 is too expensive. All too often, I saw them get tapped halfway through the first boss if they didn't learn.

Assuming that you have a good weapon for your WHM, if you feel the need to be using only Cure 2's, then I recommend that you trust in your tanks (and other healers in 8-mans) more and relax a bit. You don't -have- to top people off immediately after they get hurt. Unless your tank is dealing with a super-buffed boss, or an oversized mob, they shouldn't be getting hurt so much within a few seconds that Cure 2s are necessary. My Cure 1 does about 1k, and if that doesn't top a tank off, then Regen will over the next few seconds, during which time I know a boss won't be doing much damage. The MP you save could easily be used up by needing to Swiftcast+Raise people, which can salvage fights.

Also, how much you need to heal also depends on how good your tanks are. If they know boss patterns and use their mitigation skills well, they shouldn't get hurt much.
Similarly, if you know boss patterns, you can precast spells like Cure, Stoneskin, Medica, etc. to give yourself more breathing room.

In my mind, cure/medica is your standard way of dealing with damage, regen/medica II is how you heal people who took just took a fair bit of damage but won’t be taking any more damage soon, and cure II/III is how you heal people who are taking major damage or need to be healed a lot in a short amount of time. As other people mentioned, proper use of cds and knowledge of the fight will help minimize the amount of “oh shit” moments you find yourself in.

Make a mental note about how much max hp each of your party members have and try to remember roughly your cure I and cure II would cure, that would help you not to over cure and conserve your mp on each heal spell you cast.

I use cure I 90% of the time, 10 % cure II, never use cure III. to be a good whm you need to be like what Synesthetic said, know the patterns of the boss, proactive to the damages.

Just as a point of fact: Cure III has a lower healing potency than Cure II. Cure II is actually your strongest single target healing spell.

I only cureII spam in turn4 with two dreads on a tank and WP speed runs...and even then I don't absolutely have to. Some times I use a bit of extra CureII toward the end of Cad in t1 as well.
Otherwise it's a blanket of CureI with occasional cureII on proc or damage spike. Or after casting regen and you've maybe fallen a bit behind.

CureIII is great for stacked people in Titan Ex in stomps the instant top-off is well worth it.

It's your gear up to date? Cure 1 should be what you rely on 95% of the time and if it isn't enough to keep your party up it's because you are either over healing and causing aggro issues, thus having to throw extra heals on the party further compounding the issue, or your gear is not up to the demands of content. Make sure you spec all points in to mind as well.

In short, and of course as many said before, you should be "spamming" C1 and use C2 on proc.
The only time you should use C2 without proc is when you can await a big hit or when the tank pulls 42172487192471942 mobs or when you think some other peril awaits (-> a big hit = mountain buster @ titan - just as an example).

C3 is a AE-heal with high potency, it shouldnt be used on a single person. It's most useful in situations, where the group cowers together or where you can position yourself in order to heal multiple targets.

In short: only using C2 is most of the times mana inefficient and not advisable. Exceptions exist of course.

I pop DS Regen to begin the battle (boss battle) then pop some cure 1's to keep topped off. Big hit just happened? Cure II then pop regen again (if off) and cure 1 over again. So it's just about being able to repair big hits quickly really. spot heals to the party should only need a cure1 if med2/other healer aoe is being used througout fight....unless some1 takes big dmg that almost kills em. Then u just cure2 and do what you do :)

I am still fairly new to healer as it is my 3rd 50 Battle class (BARD, DRAGOON were first two) and I have found that with protect and stone skin on the tank is good for a bit...when I see him take some damage I get Regen on him right away and then montior and hit him with cure I only until he gets lower which he usually he does not. Like the other poster said Cure II is a higher single target heal than Cure III which is a good group heal but the group has to be somewhat tight to use it effectively. If there are tough situation you can always Divine Seal, Prescence of mind and hit some Cure I also to heal more and faster.
Medica I for AOE Heals when needed and Medica II if AOE is more massive like in Titan HM or if group is really coordinated you can Cure III. Divine seal is amazing so use it wisely when it is up...don't waste it.
Hope this helps you out some. There are lots of nuances to White Mage Healing...not to sure about Scholar so you have to develope your skills as you god and learn from others for tips and tricks and try them out for yourself and see if they work for you.

Cure 1 is the most important skill you have, and should be the one you use the most in endgame.

Cure 2 is for things like Mountain Buster, or freecure.

Regen is good when the dd is missing about 20%ish hp and shouldnt be taking more damage anytime soon. It should almost always be on tanks during a fight.

Its really hard to find a place where Cure 3 is usable because the aoe on it is super small. Using it on a tank usually won't hit the dd behind the boss. Titan fights are the main ones, because everyone will all be in the same place.
