That's a readable copy of a Google Docs spreadsheet. In it I've added some data on 206 guilds active on the evening of 01/16. All I tracked were guild tags, current active players, and total membership.
Feel free to review. There are a lot of single-digit activity guilds out there, lots of small purpose-built crews, and an awful lot that don't have the manpower to form full coil teams.
Seems like people mostly use FCs like Linkshells.
This is cool. How did you collect the data?
I started the hard way (by right clicking every person I saw in Mor Dohna, Dragonhead, and Costa del Sol with a different FC tag), then moved on to an easier method (several /searches limited to specific player classes, /sea against each of the capital cities. Threw in a few worldwide searches as well (200 players returned at max).
We haven't access to APIs to pull the data and Lodestone is a pain to mine. The data's meant to be a general stat sampling. If your FC was on and had at least 1 player in a searchable place, I probably saw ya. But maybe not! I ran into three FCs with 0 of whatever players on (the person I found on a search logged out before I checked their company info), and two FCs that were comprised of single members.
I figure the larger/more active FCs are likely represented, though.
there is a easier way, open the search player function and enter a single letter as the first name (Example "A") this will give you a list of everyone on the server who's characters name begins with that letter also it will give you info on their FC's, after getting a list of FC you can even go to the lodestone and search FC's based on their tags and get the name of the FC. You can do all of this while afking next to Nuffy Chan in MD ;)
Im sure you put alot of work into it, but I know there are some FC's that are not listed, the only one off the top of my head is <N-V> this might be a great tool for people that are looking to join a FC but would rather have a smaller/larger sized member base to join.

I promise FF wasn't missed, given their 500+ membership. They're definitely on there.
I'll take another poke at updating this with additional /search methods later, maybe as a thrilling break from leveling mining. =)

And we are complicated, our community is the Aspiring Brotherhood <PACT> but due to a mistake in PACT 1.0 the FC was disbanded, so we had to improvise with our FC name being PACT <PACT!> not very original I know lol
Our FC in Odin is Aspiring Brotherhood<PACT> as well as our guild in GW2 ...not that this information is very relevant, I think sometimes I just like to see my own post on here O_O
