You have to have an active account to post on the forums.(Edit: Apparently that's not true.) Most people with active accounts, who read the forums, are currently paying for and playing for the game. It's a very, very small percentage who've cancelled their subscriptions, but still have time left and still read the forums. So your sample size has a bias; most of the responses will be from people who are paying and playing.
That being said, yes. It's miles better than 1.0. There are still issues and a lot of things that could use polish, but it's playable and enjoyable.
Yes I did have a paid service but never got around to playing so I wasted my money there anyway lol! But I have 6 days remaining and as I haven't played properly yet that's why I'm asking.
EDIT: Glad to hear that's miles better by the way!
If you have any interest at all give it a try for sure. Both new and old players alike are finding quite a lot about it to love.
It's a very good game, my favorite since 2007. Definitely play, and the game doesnt start until you hit max level honestly. The storyquests and everything are interesting and will keep you entertained somewhat but the real fun starts at lvl 50.
Other peoples opinions are just that - their opinions. Best thing to do is download it and try it out for yourself as everyone's opinion on what is good and what is bad differs.
This is NOT correct. There are tons of things to do while you make the way towards level 50. Please people do not all be in a rush to get to the end - enjoy the scenery on the journey there and you will find it more interesting. I am in no rush to get to level 50 and yet I am having a great time. Why rush to the end and then do daily grinds over and over and over again?
I feel the total opposite; Bored to tears at 50. The main story and all of the questing is what interests me in a MMO. Dungeons and raids do not.
So, the gaming being worth playing is definitely opinion based. I say it is. Even if I find endgame for be boring.. it's still worth the price for me.
I enjoyed the game up until 50. At 50 it becomes grinding, dailies, raging, and elitism.
So depending on what you like, you might enjoy the game up to 50, or start enjoying the game at 50. It's worth trying.
@OP - Come to Excalibur/create a character on this server and I'll help you out, and not only me but my LS.
I have an archer that i can level with ya so I can show you some of the ropes, and well lets just have some fun! We can even chat on skype/teamspeak if you feel comfortable. Since typing will only get you so far lol
Anyways, I hope to see you - via reply to this post, and look for you In game! :D
It's definitely worth playing and you should check it out for yourself. You'd need more than 6 days playtime lol... there's so many things to do in the game ;o
Hello, I also played 1.0 and was actually only giving this game a try for 1.5 months. I never expected to be playing it 4 months later, so be warned. Anyway, on to the issues.
The team did a great job to improve the overall story flow, gameplay mechanics, and quest systems. It is literally light years ahead from 1.0. Some players still complain about the slow global cooldown at 2 seconds, but it becomes unnecessary at higher levels where you have abilities off that cd and the combat requires more complicated movement and combos.
It is relatively easy to reach Lv.50 (especially with duty roulette helping players in lower level dungeons), but there is a hurdle you must clear to reach endgame. Unfortunately, many of these are simply about knowing the fight and having the equipment to finish it. Once you do though, it gets repetitive as you are essentially running the same content over and over again. Admittedly, it doesn't differ too much from the established MMO formula, and it has the same problems as others of the genre.
For the most part, it depends largely on who you're playing with at this point though. Find a good FC or a good static LS group to progress through content with. It will help keep interest in the game and let you know you're making progress. Some of the fights, such as Coil of Bahamut and the extreme primals are maddeningly difficult.
The PvP is interesting, and is worth a try, but it is definitely not the focus of the game. There are just a lot of issues to work around still until it gets really compelling.
I've been playing almost daily since late August. It's a great game. It's my first MMO and I couldn't be happier. It's certainly worth a try.
I think those who find it boring at 50 maybe find a linkshell or if not in one a Free Company. This way you can all organize coil, hm dungeons, even crafting, etc.
Only thing i currently detest at lvl50 is not getting any Primal weapon after like 30 or so times.
Coil, well just not sure i would be experienced enough for it
With 6 days left on your sub, why not play the game for the week-end as much as you can and judge by yourself?
You'll have fun, garanteed!
Thanks for all the responses. I've been playing for a bit and I am really enjoying it so far and that's saying something as I'm only lvl 5! Am I the only one who walks in the game though? I see everybody rushing around and I just take my time enjoying the beauty of the game :)
Testing Siggy.
Siggy test.
(Before you read and judge, this is as objective as I can be. All my friends from Beta 1.0, 1.2, 1.23, 2.0 ARR have quit. It started with them trying to fill their time inbetween events on XIV by playing LoL. One by one, they have all quit and were outspoken about how the game has become too casual. I am now at the mercy of duty finders, pt finders and invites from some of the people I have befriended in 1.0. I have not renewed my subscription, and am currently exploring other MMOs)
To answer OP; Yes, but its no XI.
This game, as it is, will keep the hard core gamer entertained for about 1-2 months.
Casual players probably 1 year.
It depends on your expectations, previous experience with MMO's and priorities.
The criteria, for me at least, that make or break MMO's are the Social aspects, the content and the lore.
1. Social aspects aren't great.
Thanks to the game producer's vision of end game content being focused on small groups of 8 members, there are a lot of challenges with building a respectable large pool of co-raiders. This has a lot of indirect negative side effects on the small man group as well.
A) There is no opportunity to explore friendships and relationships with others outside your 8-man static.
B) The routine becomes a chore. You, and every other member of the 8 man static, knows that if you don't show up or are available during raid times, you've just ruined the night for the rest of the team/group.
2.Content
The above paired with lockouts and cooldowns, means that even outside of your 8-man static, you can't do stuff with others where it counts, like Coil. So should you be willing to help a friend who started recently learn the ropes in Coil, the best you can do is write him a guide or direct him towards your live stream. fun, not.
Fates are garbage open world content. You solo your job quests. We were all hoping that CT would be planned alliance content, and it turned out to be Duty Finder as PT content. Which has made it nothing more than a time sink for getting 1 drop per week.
3.Lore
Its an FF game. The lore is always going to be great. I can have the above negative observations about the game but honestly say that the Lore in XIV has been top notch, even when compared to other FF titles and classics. Too bad there's so little of it.
yes its awesome, but not if u dont join a good fc that has lots of cool ppl.
