Fates are dying on my server. [Leviathan]

I like doing fates in a group of people especially in the FC. But since 2.1 has come out everyone on the server has pretty much stopped doing Fates. North Thanalan is empty 60% of the day, Quarrymill has maybe 1 group of 6 people trying to do Fates, and not sure about Coerthas. People have started doing more dungeons instead of doing Fates, which is a good thing to a certain extent. The small amount of people attempting to do Gorgchimera or any other boss like Fate are getting wiped. Fates where those things you would grind one minute and work on something else while you waited for another to pop up, not to mention it was always easy to get in a group.

Here's an excerpt of the manual put in the same box as FATE:
Side effects may include:
1. Uncaring tank
2. DPS tank
3. Mute bards
4. Reduced teamwork
5. Reduced understanding of game mechanics
6. Reduced fitness for end-game dungeons
7. Increased size of digital penis, followed with reduced size of physical brain.

So lack of FATE participant is totally welcome. I must say that certain FATEs should be kept alive (such as bosses like Gorge Chimera) but I don't know how. What I DO know is that FATE academy alumnis have killed me and the whole party more than multiple times.

Really? I'm on Balmung and Northern Thanalan always has masses of people spamming FATEs for level grinding. Many normal FATEs on my server are still ignored, like the ones in the Slyphlands

I think it really depends on time of day. I have noticed fewer people grinding FATES, but they are still there. If I'm tired of running dungeons, I'll grab a few FC friends and we'll level alt classes in FATES for a while. :) For the tougher single boss FATES, we usually make a full party with going to that fight as our goal.

Death of Fates = Bad for short term goals of leveling your char

Good for the long term effects of making the game last longer via you can't just level to 50 in a weekend hardly trying anymore, people will actually learn their class from playing in 4 man group content, people wont be hitting 50 in all white low level crap gear and not even know what half their skills are used for.

Current situation is amazing. FATEs are events that give some life to maps. FATEs zergs annoyed people who want to play this game without rush in one week.

Im lvl my second y third job and I dont need to do only FATEs. I do them if they appear next to me while Im doing anything else but with roullete, dungeons (there are a lot of dungeons), tribes, primals... the game is more heterogeneous and fun.

Maybe it's just Leviathan as a whole. I made a character over there just to see how active other servers are compared to Ultros. I always see people in the towns and I've seen lowbies in Lower and Middle La Noscea but I kid you not I have barely seen anything said in /shout in over 24 hours. I was even in a Free Company where I accepted a blind invite and nobody said a word in the 3 days I was in there. I wish there was something that showed server population because I'd be really interested in why there's such a lack of communication on Leviathan.

Most of the shout chat on Leviathan these days seems to be in East Shroud and Southern Thanalan, while people are waiting for the Fate for their Beast Tribe daily to pop-up.

Fates are definitely less populated on Leviathan than before 2.2 but it's actually rather nice that way, now you can actually run to a Fate in South Shroud and it'll still be going once you get there. You'll be practically solo-ing anything that pops up anywhere less popular, like Upper La Noscea, but that's not much different from how it was before.

Yep, I can actually switch class, wait for cooldown, do the FATE and still get gold when I see a FATE with less than 10Min on timer...

Fate are better this way : less people = a little more challenge = less boring.
They were really boring, but so much faster to get XP than grinding dungeons, that's why there was so much people on them.

Now it's still faster but not much and there's better (less boring) things to do like Rkpost said (+ leves).

Since patch 2.1 was released, it's easier and less boring to level via duty roulette / dungeon. I tried some leveling via FATE and I was obtaining between 10k and 15k exp point each 5 minutes. By doing dungeons/dutty roulette you get 2-3k exp with each mob, and a bonus of almost 50% exp of your current level (around 120k-150k in a lv 35) in 30 minutes aprox. So basically, I'm getting a level every 2 days just doing 1 dutty roulette everyday for my WHM, plus you get drops, seals and gil and overall: Experience playing your class in a party.

Yeah, fates are pretty much dead on Leviathan. Didn't the patch notes say that fates were going to be dynamic, based on how many people are doing fates in the zone? I thought I read that, and if that is true, the mechanic is surely broken. I'm not saying that I should be able to solo "king" fates if no one has done it in a while, but there are times when I've seen fates expire and then when they repop, the fate is still acting as if there should be 100 people there in order to complete it.

FATEs are less zerged but I always had 2-3 groups grinding in January 2014 around Quarrymill and then Costa Del Sol. Costa is certainly a bit less. Normally i do Quarrymill 20-30, Costa 30-35, then Coerthas till 50. Coerthas is pretty busy at prime 4+ groups on Levihatan.

Yeah, last night I was in Northern Thanalan (on Lamia, though), and my three person fate party was trying to do the FATE where you turn in the earth sprite cores. We grinded mobs for the entire fate and I turned in 31 cores (so presumably the other two turned in about the same), and we didn't succeed. We only reached about 75% of the bar. Baron Bomb we killed with only a couple of minutes left on the clock, after being there for over ten minutes. Dynamically shifting the difficulty is fine, but this is ridiculous.

I'm on Leviathan and usually see a good amount of people FATE grinding at Costa, Coerthas and Northern Thanalan.

I think FATE participation has recovered somewhat now that they've adjusted the Low-Level Duty Roulette so you're no longer getting the starter dungeons 95% of the time. FATEs have once more become an attractive choice for people who want to level with the least effort possible.
