Why Hamlet still not available yet?

I remember news about discontinued Achievement back then:

It didn't mention Hamlet's being removed at all.

So why it still hasn't existed yet?

I admit that it did invites some dramas over the loot back then which is heavily related to relic quest, but let's face it: it was one of great content where all Disciples can participates. Even DoH/DoL play very important key here.

Now that many of players had their DoH/DoL capped, at least I would really love to see this happening again. :)

Because it will probably come back at some point but like the rest of the game, has to be completely redesigned and reprogrammed.

This takes some time and probably has less priority over other content.

Maybe in next patch? What are hamlets anyway?

What you know as Hyrstmill, Aleport, and Golden Bazaar in 2.0 were also hamlets in 1.22 that were occasionally attacked by beastmen. You were given 50 hours to supply the hamlets and raise their ranks in order to try for better rewards. Afterwards, there would be a 25 hour battle phase where you could take a party of 8 and help ward off beastmen while protecting four supply carts.

This content dropped seals that were required for the 1.0 relic quest. You could guarantee yourself a seal drop, but you had to camp the hamlet and turn in loads of items only to be outdone by that one other person in the final minutes of the supply phase.

That sounds amazing, hopefully it will return.

I always assumed Hamlets (the activity) were discontinued and gone forever. They were an integral part of the relic quest, and possibly the most time-consuming part unless you were REALLY lucky. Basically, they functioned as a time sink for 1.0 players as the devs began working on ARR and wanted to keep us occupied. The drops that weren't part of the prerequisites for the relic quest are now craftable, but they used to be pretty rare drops from the Hamlets. I do hope they'll reintroduce something LIKE Hamlets, but I doubt it will be the same. It will probably drop different things and reward you in a different way. I'm not sure if any of you have noticed, but some of the Hamlet music has been used for certain FATEs in ARR. Unfortunately, I don't recall which ones... but it was nice to hear the old music again.

Was a time sink for 1.0. 25 min fight for about a 50% drop you needed 9 drops, if you had a set group thats 81 drops so yea that took forever to do just to even get past the first part of the relic quest.

yes... the Hamlet BGM was used as series of FATE which one of them occured at big bridge at Eastern Thanalan & the west area of North La Noscea.

And yes, it was a time sink activity we had back in 1.0. But aside the drama over seals and other drops which is now craftable, the content itself are really interesting.

Reason I'm posting this is because this content is one of kind where DoH/DoL can actually shine rather than having them "just" crafting & gathering.

In Hamlet, DoH helps buffing the defense including raising NPC offensive damage, while DoL helps debuff incoming beastmen attack which including poisoning them.

DoW & DoM could actually have smaller role in this content. Healers usually help heal/protect/stoneskin NPC and tanks help registering small amount of dps before having to tank the main boss, which would be necessary for making special hidden content to pop to add bonus points.

The achievement for Hamlet back then even includes participation of either DoW/DoM only and DoH/DoL only. I personally never done DoH/DoL back then because mine wasn't capped yet. ^^;

It would be nice for PVP? 1 team as enemies, 1 team as protection.

Don't forget Chocobo escort missions.

So yeah, Hamlet defense was reduced to being either a zergfest or ghost town where you do nothing but faceroll all enemies to death. But at least they have the hamlet defense BGM! Yay?

I know it's old. And that's exactly what the quote means! It literally says that hamlet defense is now a part of FATE. The thing is they are exactly like every other FATE, except with a different background music. Try going to Poor Maid's Mill or Highbridge and take part in a FATE. And no matter how much SE tries to force us to love FATE, it is still the most boring thing ever.

There are many things that were removed that they didn't announce in the achievements list. For example, secondary tool gathering for MIN and BTN, gil drops from enemy achievements (even though enemies now drop more gil than ever...), A Little Something On The Side, all faction leve-related achievements, all caravan-related achievements... So that list is pointless, as it was going to allow us to collect all achievements that were going away, but didn't.

No Drama, just awful design. Outside of the EXTENSIVE gathering and crafting the event was poorly made. As a tank I spent 60% of my time running around a cave/tree/empty sand pit, kiting a boss for 15minutes of a fight just to get a high score for a better chance of a drop.

As a gatherer I ran between pots on the floor matching up colours. As a crafter I made 1 item over and over and over.

And the poor healers, reduced to healing NPC's for 25 minutes.

I was hoping to resume Hamlet achievements in 2.0, but we were never warned that they would be unobtainable until early access started.

If I recall, SE did say about removing secondary gathering & faction leves back then.

As for caravan, yea... SE didn't tell anything about that.

no argue on that.

Hamlet defense wasn't exactly the most exciting thing ever, no. But it was something. Now, DoL and DoH instead have nothing. I quite enjoyed hamlet defense as DoL and DoH, but of course it could be better. They didn't have to re-introduce the exact same thing, but it would be nice to have some content for DoL and DoH. I hope they reconsider and add something more, and make DoL and DoH the "main classes" that are "just as important as the DoW/DoM classes" as was originally the plan!

Hamlet is where team-work between all classes really begins and what end-game should really be about,lol! I would probably compare it to a XIV version of "the Dunes" in FFXI.

People CAN feel however they like, but they SHOULD feel bad.

I would also ask you refrain from starting sentences with conjunctives such as "and". It makes me feel uncomfortable and it should make you feel bad. In the future when we are room mates I will leave post-it notes on all of your things letting you know you WILL feel bad for owning them, I will not yet tell you how I know you will feel bad, but in due course you will come to feel dread.

Except for all the reasons I have subsequently posted it was not GOOD or CREATIVE. It incentivized doing nothing for 20 minutes kiting a boss for little to no reward. It was AWFUL content that shoe horned in to a dying game to retain subscriptions up until the last minute.

And with that, you can see why they will probably never come back in. Design direction has changed from this, for the better i feel.

Please SE, make Crafting/Gathering more relevant again. I am all for them tweaking the concept so it works better, but don't just trash it altogether. Pushing DoH/Dol to the sidelines was the worst thing SE did going into 2.0 imo.

Watching it all over again reminds me how I miss these. Thx alot! ^^

BTW, Hyrstmill are the easiest Hamlet. Aleport on the other hand, was a nightmare, especially since mobs threw bombs alot.

Also... this reminds me how healer jobs are kinda the busiest amongst others. Have to run and check each line of defenses, making sure they're not in danger, keeping their protect/stoneskin always on.

And the 2nd half are even more worse since beastmen starts attacking supply NPC instead of the defensive lines. Might even take all healers available to pool their healings to that npc since they can die fast, while either DoH/DoL had to act really fast resetting mob focus by making consecutive same buff/debuff, as you can see on that video, the 3 row icons on top-left corners. If there's a bit slack on DoH/DoL, healers will ran out of MP and each supply NPC will go down one by one, making duty considered failed.

And when all forces taken down, DoW/DoM need to haste to locate the final special mob, which is the zombie mage, since they score loads of points. (there's actually 3 special mobs that appear during the course of hamlet, which needs to be identified and taken care properly or risk losing huge bonus points)

Ah... those were the days... :D
