Most games do this. They give battle bikinis to females, and full heavy plate armor to males. Usually it's met with a lot of resistance. <_< I'm kinda glad to see that it looks the same across the two in most cases.
I am going to say, no thanks to this.
I had enough of the "bikini" plate the above poster mentioned. Every other MMO does this for whatever reason.
Personally, some distinction between them is cool and I think we sort of have that, to a small degree.
My two gil.
What Eidolon said, I'm fine with the gear as it is now.
It don't need to be bikini but more like how monster hunter dose things? and not to all of it just some of ithttp://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH3:_Armors
I think monster hunter is a game that does the distinction between male and female armor very well, it's tasteful but not overboard.
And before anyone brings up the Kirin armor, look up the kushala daora armor because that's more what I'm thinking of. It doesn't show a bit of skin, but the female set looks distinctly feminine while the male set looks distinctly masculine. Heavy armor doesn't have to be a unisex tin can.
That looks about the level of distinction we have now, frankly. I mean, it's not like there not some differences; the female shorts on casters tend to be even shorter, they get camisoles or bras under the low-neck shirts, etc.
I'm agreeing with everyone else here, seeing the genders appearing equally geared-looking (or under-geared-looking, bless you, Coliseum sets) is pretty unique and refreshing.
I kinda like that the sets are similar. I imagine vanity slots will help you with wanting to look more feminine/masculine, but the basic sets are fine as is. But that's just my opinion.
More options and variety is always good, so long as we don't get breast molds in heavy armour. That kills it for me because those things would be death traps!
For the most part i am fine with how everything looks but id like some sets to be more feminine at some point maybe something males can't use and something masculine females can't use? idk just how i feel
In any case when we get vanity slots I don't see the problem with catering to all tastes. If you don't like something don't wear it, I personally don't see why we should strive for realism in a game with dragons and cat girls but that's my tastes.
I really like the way things are now. Some of the armor I kinda tilt my head at (female Foestriker's Skirt seems kinda impractical), but they're hardly worth seriously complaining about. Besides, the fact that most armor looks similar on both genders is pretty different for any game in a fantasy setting, haha!
Yeah but that's different from having each gender have different-looking sets. If the ladies get something ridiculously frilly and lacy-looking then the gents should get something equally ridiculously frilly and lacy-looking to match. We'd certainly be catering to all tastes then.
There is no way you'd find me objecting to a huge guy charging into battle wearing lacy underwear
To be honest I'm with the saints row idea of character design, anything goes. Ultimately you are creating a character to your tastes so nothing should restrict it for arbitrary reasons.
FFXIV takes gender equality to heart and it does it very well. Whether the armor is practical or impractical, it provides the same overall coverage regardless of gender.
I think the biggest difference ive personally seen is the Choral bard shirt for males vs. females, where males wear an undershirt but Females don't.
But it's hot, and the main design is untouched so i dont care.
Remember when people lost their shit because female Dragoon AF has some opening at the chest? Yeah.
Maybe OP mean something like the WHM pants.
On a male character they are boxer shorts (very manly) and on female characters they are mini skirts (very feminine)

Have we already a "we need more sexy gears" thread in the new forum? I know that we have one in the old forum.
And I think the coliseum gear came because of this thread ^^

Same outfit, obvious differences on male/female. DRG AF in XIV is a...weird example but the exposed belly is pretty much the only obvious difference aside it being more 'slender' on females because, well, the slender frame and Bard AF where females for some reason..wear nothing under the shirt..
So XIV does have male/female set differences in some instances but majority of gear is designed for hyur male pretty much in this version.
Yup, gender doesn't even matter, male or female, whether you want it or not. Super feminine pink with lots of ruffles and sashes and bows! Hell there are even big RED BOWS on the male Scholar uniform as if they just took their perverted schoolgirl outfit and gave it pants.
I don't really like this idea, just look how stupid females look in the dragoon gear.
The Strikers set is basically identical except for "filling in" legs and the top.

I love the set on female but the "skirt" on the male version is getting to me.
There are cases like this that are nothing more than minor adjustments.
Surprised no-one has mentioned the coatee set yet.
Male Coatee: respectable evening jacket and hose
Female Coatee: CLEAVAGE! MINI-SKIRT!
That was quite disappointing to me. I always liked the fact that XI and XIV didn't overly sexualise the females' gear like most MMOs.
As someone from Victorian England I am also quite offended when women are sexualized. Ugh the amount of exposed ankles in this game.
Indeed, any aspect of life where girls aren't reduced to wearing nipple tassles and dental-floss underwear is so prudish.
I happen to like the art design in this game in general, because it isn't aimed at immature children. You appear to be of a different opinion.
They need to impliment the trouser style from FFXI, they were normal trousers but on female characters looked a bit more like hot pants at times. I miss my dusk trousers.

Your argument is invalid.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the aesthetics of this game. There's no armor or animations that make me want to change races or genders unlike other MMOs(*cough* Rift). I can continue being my favorite race and know that they're will 9/10 be equality in the gear/animations(and the other 10% of the time it doesn't, it'll look best on cats ANYWAY! bwahahaha).
Is the skirt on male Roman army uniforms and Greek army uniforms (where only males can enlist) bothering you? They started the trend. And they're very much skirts. And very much not a female-only garment.Quote:
