PvP Community

Wondering what your PvP experience has been--

When I play an MMO I typically play all facets of the game: PvE, Crafting, PvP, etc. I have to say that the FFXIV PvP community is honestly the worst I've seen, and that's saying a lot. PvPers are always going to be a different class of player, but holy cow is it bad in this game. I haven't played a single match where some poor person, or myself, gets berated in a very rude fashion. It's sad because I was actually looking forward to PvP and I think today I'm going to call it quits because I simply cannot surround myself with that kind of vibe. It's not even an attempt to be helpful, just mean spirited brutal attempts to hurt people. What a shame... and a surprise coming from the FF community.

I don't normally care about the given "state of the community" I'm pvping in. I'm there for the thrill/challenge that's it. Some people just don't know how to trash talk lol. But ya pvp communities can be annoying and disheartening for sure.

Imo, some of the vented frustrations could be directly related to the gameplay environment of ff14 pvp. Forget sleeps, binds, dots, bunnyhops....what about the "race track" lol.

I know it's new and has problems, but I've never run around in circles this much in pvp...ever :confused:

I don't think FFXIV's PvP community is terrible. I do, however, think there is something VERY WRONG with the fact that there is no matchmaking system. A team fresh out of the gate could be pitted against a rank 30 team with the best pvp gear.

I consider myself a decent PvPer. I know how to LoS/hide, I know how to mark, I know how to hard switch, I know how to CC... I like to communicate in voice chat when I can. And yet... people will still find a way to 'blame' you for something. I've only been treated rudely once -- and it was when the opposite team CC-locked me and mauled me very quickly, then downed our healer, and then our tank, and finally our melee DD. After the fight was over, the melee DD on my team verbally tore me apart for having horrible DPS because I'm a summoner and should (obviously) top the charts. He mentioned that he waaaaay out-dpsed me, which would be a no-brainer if he realized I was killed early on.

Some people take their frustration for PvP in general out on other people, and that just isn't right. Buuuuut.. I don't think FFXIV has the 'worst' PvP community. Far from it. Most people are nice, but perhaps a bit too quiet. I try to strategize and people are weirdly quiet... I prefer to play with people on voicechat for this reason.

It's pretty light in my experiences amongst other, far more hardcore communities. People in this one tend to wound easily and they lash out more often. That being said, it could be better.

MoBA game community is the worst really. But I do understand the frustration people have to deal with when you get teammates who do not want to invest in Basic iLVl 55 Wolf gear. It's like expecting to land a job without credentials or going for an interview. It is almost the end of the 3rd week and you still see people who queue with such gear it is disheartening.

It doesn't have the worst PvP community, that would imply players are angry and vocal about bad things. That isn't how it plays out here.

However, it has one of the more.. what's the word - "New" PvP communities, in which a lot of people who are pvping have likely never PvPed before, and then you'll also have a lot of players who have PvPed a LOT. As a result, the skill level difference between teams and individual players is shockingly huge, where you basically have Gladiator teams against 4 solo queue players, and the results are pretty silly sometimes.

It certainly feels weird to have it set up this way, because new players get pounded in the face by seasoned vets (not just people with PvP gear, but people who've played PvP games before, whereas new players probably haven't even done that) and there's no real threshold that it stops happening at. In WoW for instance, if you were new or sucked or did poorly, you dropped down and got queued with people in a similar situation.

I don't think I've had many people rage in my games at all, unless someone is doing something totally wrong (BLM with 0 damage, anyone?) or comes in with level 30 gear on, which IMO you deserve to get harassed over, because that's just irritating and offensive to your team. One guy in a game I had just now was wearing a meteor survivor ring and a Aetherite ring as a Paladin, come on. If you're not there to PvP seriously, don't queue, you're not going to have fun and neither is your team.

I haven't PVP'd since a few weeks after it's launch, but judging from the game's forum PVP, the community as a whole isn't too bad. You still have a few 'tards tho.

Still can believe people actually thought that SE, already know for their horrible Pvp ideas, thought that 14 pvp would be "Good". lol

FFXIV by far is not the "worst PvP community on the intraweb"

The bugs, glitches and horrible Q times when in a group is what makes PvP on FF14 bad

When joining any content that is very competitive expect to see the worst come out of people (see all console and PC shooters, etc etc)

so that is def not new

(side note: what is up with everyone being shocked of D-bags on the internet seriously btw I only see these threads on 14 forums)

Only thing I call tell you is get some thick skin and keep trying it (it is sorta fun)

I agree especially in pvp stuff, there are bad behavior, some players who insult fiercely and yet I have not seen any punishment, I hope it will be done

I have been on the giving end of a fair number of rages... lol.

The community is not bad. The problem is that those of us who have been working toward Rank 30 since Day 1 are now playing with people who come into level 50 pvp with ZERO pvp gear. Well, I tell myself, "Maybe they don't know they should be farming in the 40s bracket."

But when I tell someone nicely, "You should really go do 30's and 40's where morale doesn't matter, save up some points, and buy i70 gear before coming into level 50 bracket," and the proceed to tell me how I'm rude and how they are okay with losing, and that they refuse to buy pvp gear and/or go into lower brackets, I do get angry.

I never minded much when people came into PvP with darklight or better, everyone starts somewhere, but when you enter with stone vigil gear and a darklight kple kple and lvl 27 accessories, something generally needs to be said. It doesn't need to be said with intent to cause emotional distress, but you wouldn't just not say something if you joined a BC raid and 1 person is in peltast and AF1 with no jewelry on.

Honestly I find the FF14 pvp community to be fairly nice, I'd say most of us regulars know most of the others and have a mutual respect when we see them either on our team or on the bad guys, there is very little trash talking now that jumping is fixed. That being said since 2.15 I feel PvP is much worse but I'll leave that for another thread :[

Yeah, I agree with you dec. For the most part I don't see the same attitudes i've seen in pvp in other games. I don't really see much of the emote taunting, teabag spamming nonsense pvp is famous for. There are a few doucheclowns (that happen to be r30, go figure) in our cluster but it's not the majority.

What astonishes me the most, really, is that people have that typical "wow arena" elitist mentality in a pvp setting that is mostly broken. Between class imbalances, gear imbalances and the worst sync server I think i've ever seen...it's rarely a testament to skill.

My data center, Chaos, has a pretty good environment overall. Yes, there are a few bots, and more ppl in sub iLvL 55 gear then I care for. But for the most part, a new pvper is welcome to the wolves den. Granted, they may be given a few choice words if the look/ play like trolls. Either way, a match making system would be appreciated, and would be a step forward in generating a positive experience for players of all levels and abilities.

Well lets put things into perspective, both winning and loosing only earns you xp and marks, nothing more. Now 30 cap has a 40 minute queue, 40 cap 40 minute queue, 50 cap 5 minute. With that in mind, wait 40 minutes from both the lower level caps to win at best 100 marks at worst 20, 50 cap which has a 5 minute queue, yields 20 at worst and 100 at best, so 5 losses would equal what a 40 minute wait would give (assuming they were faceroll looses which the doom and gloom seem to hold lower tier geared players responsible for)

Currently PvP as it currently stands in this game is nothing more than an xp mark farm, no matter which bracket you choose, ultimately it boils down to how much you gain per hour. Any veteran PvPer knows this. So as far as the super psycho competitive people need to come to terms with this fact, you gain nothing more than marks and xp per hour winning and loosing.

Can you even say this game has a pvp "community"? There's no open world, we have 1 arena with no brackets. Granted the one arena is segregated into 30-40-50 levels, but it's still the same grind no matter which one you go into. The pvp takes very little skill, and there's really no strategy other than "try and kill their healer before they kill ours"
Unless they come out with different types of arenas, or at the very least a bracket, since this game isnt the type for open world, I don't see much of a community forming.

I can imagine some people would have pretty negative attitudes in some matches, but that's to be expected. If I see someone in pve gear, especially if it's sub-50 I usually ask them to at least buy/craft the ilvl 55 gear so they 1) aren't a detriment to their team and 2) have more fun not getting exploded in less than 1 second. Granted, i90s can explode people in seconds even if theyre in i70, but the 55 is still better than pve gear.

There has been one time for me, I've gotten legitimately mad at my own team and it had nothing to do with gear.

I'd say it has a community, just on a different style. I haven't been pvping too long... just like a few days before 2.15, but i like seeing and talking to people that i keep running in to. It will be interesting if they ever do some form of ranking system or ladder.

I don't find arena that exciting anymore, but I do like running into different people and talking to them. Healthy competition is good.

PvE challenged?

I'm on Aether data center, and it's like...the same tiny handful of people that you see queuing normally. I would call it more a group than a community at its current stage, which is why I hope more people continuously get into it. A chunk of the people I know on my server grinding to r30 are doing it to get there, then stop queuing.

I took a week off and came back as MNK and people ask me why'd I switched from BLM. People do notice, well if you're not a full sack of shit that is. On server level we congratulate each other when we see someone who has been working R30 hit it finally. And us well played R30 are like a beacon of hope for these people who are grinding to R30.

So yes there is some level of community in PvP, the the point you know who is good and sometimes using it against our enemy cause well. You know that pink color MRD in R30 armor is always that someone...

I'll say I've had the full spectrum of experiences in my crawl to 30, but overall it's been quite pleasant. The bad sucks..... but there's bad everywhere. I use that as an occasion to rock my funky bandana or my pope hat :)
