Another Why i Stopped playing thread

I finally stopped playing this game and did not re-sub . I have Beta tested this from BT1 and played it until Wednesday .I have a legacy Chr on Hyperion and a Chr i play most often on Diabolos . I took all the gil in my FC bank and gave it all back to people who deposited it . ( about 3.7mil worth ) . After Tuesday a few of us were talking about this game . ( wile we were playing cards against humanity ) We decided the games direction was just not there . Most of us did Binding Coil most of us did all X mode primals most of us ran all the new dungeons 1000 times for stones most of us did Crystal Tower for that one piece of gear . ( mine in 54 tries never dropped Bard Body ) . Most of us have more then 1 50 ( i do not think of ARN branching off in 2 other jobs more then 1 50 ) Most of us have at least 1 gathering and crafting class at 50 or close to 50 . So we all have done a lot there is to do . But the reasons why we decided to leave are as follows .

Crafting : It is meaningless , Everything you need is dropped from dungeons when you exp grind in them OR you can fate grind in no gear at all . The only thing that crafting might be good for now is crafting furniture IF FCs have there house and if they do they already have crafters to make it anyway .

Maintenance : Just got so sick of it every week and we are never told what it is for just that we have it , Then most time after it there is a follow up one because the first one messed something up . Now i agree i would love to have a well maintained game but this is excessive .

Leveling : Its a joke , 1-50 anyone can do this in 3 days , YES 3 days you have a Friday , Saturday , Sunday off ? Well you can get to 50 Fate grinding or Dungeon grinding . Its to fast to easy and makes for really bad players who have no idea what there jobs are .

Content : Ok 2.1 gave us treasure hunts , PvP, Crystal Tower ( that's not Crystal Tower ) 1 new dungeon , 2 HM dungeons , Ultima HM , Primal X modes , Beast Tribe Quests , New Story , Hildabrand Side Quest . This all all and good BUT.... The Main Story took no time to finish , Hildabrad story was annoying i am a V1 player i got the story but was like that's it ..? CT is so simple there is no challenge to it other then running it 54 times with no drop from the gear you really wont . Beast Tribe quests are the same 8 quests per tribe lots of fun there ......no. PvP is a joke lets all run in circles and get slept wow that's fun. The Dungeons are meh . After running them 1000 times its the same old same old . Can i please have something HARD something that challenges everyone . That is not a dodge fest dodging is not hard .

Player base : Everyone Rage quitting after one run of fill in the blank ( witch i have done a few times after doing something 40 times with the same result with different people ) People not taking time to ask questions about fights and people who think they know more then others about fight , And people who think there the best ( there the ones who die first usually )

Party Finder and Duty Finder : Both are jokes . You have a equal chance to have some idiot join a PF as you do with a DF group . You can say in your PF group that you ONLY want people who know the content and you will always get someone who joins who has no clue . They say yes i know the fight then you get in and there like ok i watched the Youtube video or i read the fight but never done the fight .......You just said you know the fight ......wow really people . With a DF group you expect the Derp that happens . Not so much with a Pf group but it tends to happen . Best thing to do is a all FC .

The Market Board and Econ : Our Econ is totally jacked up . Everyone undercuts everyone there is no value in anything . You cant get a ultimate drop and sell it . Crafting something unless its parts is worthless because you get better stuff in dungeons or using stones . I used to sell Velvet it was decent gil now you can buy it cheep from the beast tribe market , Because the stupid Bots that used to farm the webs were never dealt with we all ( who made gil selling Velvet ) had to take a hit . Now there is no bots farming webs that's great but you killed a part of the market because of it .

These are just a few things there's more but this is already to long of a read for most people here . I understand the purest troll is going to come in and say so long good riddance , And at the same time i will have people who agree , And i know i will have that one or two people who did not read the post and take it out of context , And i know i will have someone say do we need another post about this . I might come back to FFXIV i really enjoy the franchise ( played XI for 7 years and V1 from beta to end of era and have played this from Beta to now ) But as the game is now its just not doing it for me ( and i used to white knight this game a lot )

And I would probably quit if i was at that point too. I don't think SE expects every single person to keep playing when they've cleared all content. As for the game's difficulty, it's only easy because high level players run lower level dungeons and CT for tomes. I think CT would actually be difficult if a bunch of normally geared players tried to do it, but it's mostly i90's who run it for tomes. That's why Titan HM is so hard, because there's no incentive for highly geared players to come back, so you're mostly stuck with AF i55's.

I don't know, come back when there's more content? And bad players in DF and PF isn't really SE's fault, baddies gonna be bad regardless. The maintenance isn't as bad as you're saying, you probably should be sleeping when it goes on, but maybe you live in a weird time zone? As far as crafting goes, it could become viable extremely easy with newer gear. If in the new set of gear, they make crafting counterparts decent or worth it, BAM crafting is cool again.

You say you want something super hard, but you cleared it already. Coil and Ex Primals. Do you realize a huge majority haven't even attempted those yet? I haven't, I'm trying to get all the relics and gear all my jobs first. Have you done that yet? I mean, kudos, you have the hardest content in the game on farm (you do right?), but... I imagine its hard for the dev team to sate your thirst for content and still have a game that can cater to their entire playerbase. Also I agree with crafting and leveling, but the player base is what you make of it.

Its not a sole reason why its more of not knowing why we have it . I wish Se would give us info on why . I used to work late nights so when i came home my day off always was on maintenance so after working hard all night getting home to play then ok nope not playing tonight . That was not and is not the deal breaker just an annoyance

Perhaps the OP is the troll for placing this awful mess of a flowery goodbye post here. Anytime you throw something out into the world for many people to potentially read proofreading goes a long way in ensuring people do not get frustrated reading a lengthy diatribe. While there are several valid points made, I fail to understand why people cannot just leave the game, SE didn't ask for an exit interview.

To the OP or anyone else planning to quit, just do it and move on with your lives. MMO's in general are like this and perhaps you just need a break from the genre as a whole, because if anyone thinks this same post with different in-game references is not on the forum of every single MMO out there, then they are deluding themselves.

It's because SE called your workplace and got your work schedule, and do their maint. at precisely the days you have off.


Get over yourself, those of us that plays Eve have maintenance EVERY DAY, all your other points are quite valid, but this one is just pure whine, who gives a f why they do it? you know damn well you'd still be pissed regardless.

Regular weekly maintenance is a part of almost every MMO I've ever played. And Square does tell you what, if anything besides routine stuff, they did during maintenance on the Lodestone. At least they don't usually do maintenance during peak times during the evening/weekend.

I dunno about what everyone's quip is about Party Finder. Party Finder is a server-only Duty Finder with a typically higher item level requirement. It doesn't auto-detect people who are of lesser skill and keeps them out. There are gonna be people that sneak in that say they are experienced. There's no way around that. The best thing you can do is actually run it, see if that person actually knows, and give em the boot if it's clear that they don't. Or better yet, figure out why that person is failing and try to give some constructive feedback to make him better.

To be quite honest, the leveling being fast as a cause for struggling players seems far fetched. Everyone learns at a different speed but ultimately it's up to the player to take the time to learn their class if they feel that they are struggling. Whether that be taking on Guildhests for practice on tanking or add management, or maybe even practicing Titan and Garuda Hard Mode through Duty Finder to get some practice to learn when to do what. Some people don't catch on as fast as others and dulling the leveling won't help that a bit.

i agree with OP.

there is no game and anything worth doing locks you out or has a limit till monday reset. i cant see how SE made FFXI then pretty much gimped FFXIV like this.
people use the excuse they have a job & family so this game is the best in the world, not sure if they know but there not the only person in the world who has that. maybe if your too busy gaming is not for you its a waste of time regardless what you say.

The OPs complaints are valid. And SE hearing why they are starting to lose subs might be the only way to stop it.

Yoshida keeps giving us the "Working as Intended" or "I understand buy we wanted it this way" responses to everything that is bad or subpar compared to others.

The devs need to start working on making this game last along time with dept in endgame, leveling, and the economy. Not just give short term cheap thrills. Either that or they need to just transition into f2p.

NO one is going to pay $9-15/month for 10hrs a week of content, for a game with no economy, limited meaningfull endgame, no guild focus, and a slow patch schedule forever. Not when f2p or b2p mmos have much more content and dept of content.

Atm only the very casual are really happy with this game, mainly because they have not hit the wall yet. SE MUST fix the economy (Make crafting and gathering worthwhile), give us a sense of endless content, make our work be worth something, and have some long term goals (Where we cannot get a BIS in 2hrs....). Making a MMO 100% casual is a death sentence it is an unsustainable model.

People giving the wait for more content do not understand it. It is not the lack of content it is the design direction of the game. OP waited along time through hell in 1.0 all the way to now it sounds like. He is quitting because he does not like what XIV has become, and that view is shared with a huge amount of people atm... it is just some are giving SE alittle more time then others.

I stopped playing because of all the why I stopped playing threads.

The "design direction" of this game is fine. From what ive seen many people saying this are hardcores who hate casuals. Honestly... if nothing in this game is challenging you, I doubt many other games will. I don't know many "casuals" who have legit beaten Twintania or titan extreme (or even titan hard for that matter). Turn 5 is not going to stay the hardest thing in the game forever. Just like every other MMO in existence the game expands over time and more challenging content appears.

If you're quitting because this game isn't hard enough, You're not going to be satisfied anywhere else.

Humm i remember FFXI having maintenance in the early mornings and it did not bother me . I also remember it was once a month at most twice a month and sometimes once every 2 months adding in content for the upcoming events . Again you are taking it out of context . I said its annoying because they just say there's maintenance then 3 days later they have emergency maintenance to fix what the maintenance was to fix before hand . Its annoying i understand it and that's all well and good . Again its not the end all be all . As i have said And i never said i was pissed when we have maintenance but that i was annoyed with how often we have them there is a difference. And i understand that they have this when they have it because it interferes with me being off is just the way it is when SE scheduled it and just how my days off are . You assume i do not understand this difference . And again think this is the Main reason why i am no re-subing .

why should dev adapt to those who play 10 + hours a day?
You know there are thousands of players who are not even passed the Titan Hard mode, not even been inside the CT or coil.
Next patch it will certainly be more for those who are 50, then dev has promised that there will be expansions that will be huge.

Weekly Maintenance may be that they need to fix the bugs little things that you do not see or know about.
Be patient, it will certainly be better

The thousands of players who not beat titan hard... are extremely behind the ball. It has been what 5months. IT takes a week to get to titan hard, if you play 2hrs a night.

Why should the game be catered to those who are not even playing it in the first place?

My FC keeps getting smaller and smaller - People log-on on mondays, then disappear for a week.
I too am finding myself bored. Even Mrhappy was bored enough that he started playing XI again.

In my humble opinion, these are the issues (in descending order of impact) that are negatively effecting this game:

1. Content -
"Open world with nothing to do"


2. Not Guild Friendly - for those of us who enjoy playing the game with groups of friends, you're limited to 8 man content at best. That combined with point #3 creates a very closed and limited social experience. Crystal tower disappointed everyone due to the DF feature being part of the mechanics. Rather than follow a tried and tested formula such as RoZ's Sky system, they chose to blindly follow other MMO's and completely disregarded their own primary "lessons-learned" from XI. Instead they carried over the aspects of XI that no one ever gave a crap about and few participated in. Watch Chocobo Racing and Pankraton (Pokemon) be included in 2.3 or 2.4

3. Lockouts and cool downs around the only content you could otherwise spam and would keep you busy.

4. Gear progression - If its not AF2 or Coil drops, there really is no point in investing in it. As a new player, spam AK for a week and get the drops while building philosophy for your DL, purchase it from rowena, use each item for literally a week or 2, until you can afford the AF2 mythology or get a coil drop. Melded gear is a waste of effort and gil, as are crafts (there are a few exceptions, accessory options that are BiS)

5. Lack of solid AI in enemy mobs: Dodge dodge dodge mechanics - Memorizing sequences of attacks =/= challenging, entertaining fights. Until now, XIV's biggest challenge is latency.(Yes it has improved a lot since 2.1, but its still the only reason anyone competent would ever get hit by a divebomb or a landslide) Working as intended no doubt.

6.Job design - so we got the redundant aspects of other MMOs but none of the good stuff. Why can't our jobs be more customized? Why didn't they take the spec path? Why not at least the merit system from XI if having the option to be FF's version of a fury/arms/prot warrior is too much for SE?
