Help with ideas for converting 8000000 Gil to something for a server transfer....

9.2 million total, I need to transfer servers

I can take 1.2 in gil

nothing on either world is worth enough on the markets, and the volume is simple not there, I would be stuck with loads of inventory that would take forever to sell (most likely at a loss)

any ideas ?!

OK ... here is the plan: Buy several alts, and buy the transfers for all of them : D

Not sure the exact amounts but your retainers can hold some. Then I'm guessing you should just look harder on something that you can either profit a tiny bit that sells for less in your world while it sells for more on the other.

As a last resort you could always be prepared to lose some money, it shouldn't be a huge loss. Try to not just go on only one item or as you said you would be stuck trying to make the money back from it for too long, and possibly lose even more money because prices will drop while you're still trying to sell it.

You could also take this moment to buy stuff you need or will need that may be cheap? Give some away as a parting gift too :D!

holy crap really? vanya is worth like 50k on high pop servers.

I looked long and hard at the markets on both worlds, 8 million is just too much to convert into "lots of different items" /sigh lol

I was gonna make a joke about RMT but I'm guessing it's not wise and I'll probably end up getting banned :(

just buy a lot of materials, and when you get to your new server, craft a rap ton of diffrent things to fill the market with. Your going to be at a loss no matter what to be honest. That or find some people and give them some of the gil that you can not take with you.

hahaha ya ideally I would like to not have to monopolize anything, hence the problem, with 8 million to deal with, I would end up having to buy so much I would be undercutting myself for weeks on the other legacy server

As some other said, make additional characters and use a friend to get a million on to each. That should cover most of your money.

You can also have a friend mail it to you, and then open the mail on your new server (it gets transfered too).

You should have no trouble buying 8 million Gil's worth of Level 4 Materia's and re-selling them. You might eat a bit of money if it sells cheaper on your new server, but it's better than losing the 8 mil altogether. I think I saw a Wind-up Tonberry on my server selling for 20mil because it was the only one up there. People love obscure minions!!

SE no doubt watch mass transfers of Gil between players so be prepared to get investigated in regards to RMT. They might find it a bit suspect and jump to conclusions.

invest in allagan gold /silver? and then sell it back on new server?

Materia is most likely the best thing to buy... load up on 3 and 4's and then sell them when you get there.

The other option is to check the market your going to and find items there that sell well, and then buy them on your server, hopefully for cheaper then the destination server is buying them for.

The gil limit is there to prevent transfer for economical purposes. So if u try to bypass it, u may get punished.

the mail thing is untested on a mass basis so I would hesitate to do that as Kal-el said I would probley get flagged LOL

anyhoo, the t4 seems to go for 15k-30k average on this server, and the same on the other server, so I may have no option but to go that route and hope I don't get hammerfucked on the whole deal

Is there a spot to just buy allagan silver/any piece from a npc? I would consider that

Man, I wish i had this first world problem. You need some sort of ingame offshore holding company.

Your only feasible options are Tier 4 materia and Allagan coins. You can spread out which kind of materia you buy, just try to stick with types that will translate to a gain rather than a loss once you get to your new home. This will allow you to sell off your stock faster since you will be selling in multiple markets rather than flooding a single one or a few.

The allagan peaces have the benefit of translating back to gil as soon as you talk to an NPC, the drawback being you will take time to gather them from the AH and at a guaranteed loss due to taxes and markup over their actual value by the seller.

Between the two I'd favor materia, if nothing else because the Allagan peaces outright introduce gil to your destination server while the materia just transfers others gil to you. SE might take a dim view of sidestepping their restrictions in this manner.

precisely how I feel, going to sit on the fence for a few days and think :)

I would look at buying out materia. Go on the server your going to and price check every tier III and tier IV Materia. See what sells more where you are going and lower where you are and buy 8 mil worth of them. I know some of the crafting materia can go for 100's of k and some of the IV's not given as quest rewards sell well too. I few of the Tier III's like Quick Tongue sell well on my server as well.

as an after thought, I can make up to 8 characters on 1 account, and I think if there all on the same world I can lump them all into one transfer (one 18$ fee).... solving my problem! thoughts?

I mean, it's smart and clearly not against the rule, they said X gil PER character. Right?

And if they transfer all your characters. well, there you go! if you alraedy had a character on that new world, well just convert 1m gil or something. plus im pretty sure you are counting the retainer for your main account (its far more than 1m per character. closer to 3m I think?)

You can't send mail to your own characters, so you'll be forced to know someone you can trust on both servers to get that money from your main to your alts and back.

Materia is probably your best bet. And patience. It'll probably take you 1-2 weeks to buy up all the materia you need (of a type that moves enough to make it worth while) and then another 1-2 weeks to sell it all at prices that mean you don't take too much of a hit.

But, in the end, expect a hit. I'd imagine that out of the 8 Mil, you'll be lucky to still have 5-6 Mil left after this process.

a lot of people sell allegan gold, silver etc pieces for almost the same sold value.

Also crystals are easily resellable

Philo mats have been holding steady around 5k. I would think if you could pick them up for that price or lower that you'd be able to make a return on your money.

It's more about the number of level 50 crafters, legacy worlds naturally have far more of those than any non-legacy server regardless of the total server population

This is why we can't have nice things.

You actually can mail to youself, you just need to friend list your self, and if you alt + f4 out of a dungeon and log in your alt, you can do just that.

People said they patched it, but I've heard you can still do this and they patched a different method.

I SUPPOSE hoarding materia will be my safest bet, incidentally I was a massive materia hoarder in 1.2x so it's natural to me :P indulge the insanity eh?!

shards, crystals and clusters always sell and you can take lots with you, but I'm not sure how much of a dent that will make in your gil.

I would say Materia, stacks of raid food, shards, and some mats

Buy a diverse collection of T4 materia; it's the most liquid option available that would also let you resell at reasonable prices in a fairly timely fashion.
