Suggestion for a minor change to comendations

Yesterday I was in a ok CT, I had entered the place with 2 others from my FC. In this CT we got a rather nice dragoon in our group that was very good and social, and if I could I would have given her a commendation.

So my suggestion.
If someone join as a group, let them give commendations to people other then the ones they joined with. I am not asking to be able to give to those I join with, but to be able to reward those random players that did a good job.

I agree with this. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to vote for people that you didn't queue with. The only reason I can think as to why this isn't already the case is a technical issue with how commendations currently work.

It would be nice to see this in the future!

This is very easy and simple logic. Wonder why developers don't do this.
I am not programmer but I think it is not very difficult to implement, just writing little more code.

Let me explain.. I went into Duty Roulette as > DPS the 1st 20 times
doing the low, high and story line. each time this ended .. i never got any commendations.. sure.. The lot of you would say.. i didn't deserve one cause i suck.

Well don't judge me if you don't know me.. I play well enough to receive a commendation. Hell everyone on a lvl 16 dungeon deserves a commendation it's that freaking EASY. So .. why am i not seeing them? Because commendations usually go to the Tank or Healer : Most of the time a DPS knows they arent getting one.. so they leave the instance b4 a vote can be cast.

I proved my theory correct as i switched to WHM and there is was 15 commendations in a row. SE fix this shit. Soon only Healers and Tanks will have the new Magitek mount. DPS > wont.

Now how do you think this can be fixed? Really, I want your suggestion. The "problem" you are describing has nothing to do with the system, it is fully caused by the behavior of the players, you can't fix that, there really isn't anything you can do about that. I tend to give commendations to tanks, healers and dps alike but I know that it is much easier to get them if you are healer or tank since you stand out more. You just have to live with it.

LOL, i've received 2 commendations as a damage dealer a bunch of times. It's more about being social and not sucking than it is about saving the day, which rarely happens anyway.

Dunno..I play DF roulette mainly as DPS and have received almost 25 commendations by now although I mainly play with my FC so it is not impossible. I myself appreciate all classes, tanks for keeping those nasty monsters away from my glass cannon, Healers for keeping the group and myself alive and vivid and other DPS for taking down the monsters fairly quickly. I do not see how a single class should be above the others because every role has its meaning for a team win. You can't win without tanks or healers but you also can't run a dungeon in a reasonable time without DPS so live and let live.


Most stupid behaviour about commendations I ever had was Duty roulette low level ini: I was added to a Titan fight (not HM but the little Story titan) and entered as BLM. Still having a black screen from loading, I saw the tank posting "look another level 50 char let's see if he is able do dodge". Then during the 1st fight, the bard in the team got hit by a landslide and died. Tank said "one more wipe and I leave this shit team". Next run, he was caught by plumes and I asked him "do you also leave if you fail?" and with no surprise, he did not answer lol. When Titan was dead finally he said "don't forget to place your vote on me since I made this run work". I only though sheeesh wtf is going on with people these days. Beeing a dick and yelling and then asking for commendations? Go get a grip.

I've gotten more on my DPS then when I play my healer (I guess I'm not a good healer? LOL).

I totally agree with this. Aside from going in solo for roulettes, I always join with at least one other person and there have been many times that I would have liked to commend someone DF paired us with.

People would probably abuse it by signing up, synching their queues so they can commend each other.

Commendations are luck of the draw.

I've had dungeons where I ran everything flawlessly, held aggro on every mob, faced the enemies the correct way every time, pulled managable mobs, zero knockouts, speedy run, every chest obtained, skipped non-essential trash mobs.... zero commendations.

I've also had dungeons where I basically ran through on auto-pilot, made a ton of sloppy mistakes (but no one got KO'ed) and got 3 commendations.



I think that in the long run, it all evens out.


I generally give my commendation to the person whoose name I like the best ;)


As far as the OP's suggestion, maybe it's something SE could look into. Given that commendations are kind of an "icing on the cake" aspect to the game (they aren't really essential to anything), I don't think they will put too high of a priority on any adjustments. It doesn't hurt to put out suggestions though.

Bard here. over 100 commendations now. I also level my WAR trough low lvl duty roullette but most of it has been gathered from bard. I reward outstanding people. Unless I find a really great party where halfway trough we already admit that dps commendate eachother while tank and healer do so likewise.
The op's problem though is valid imo. I like to help my guildies trough AK when they need their relic or something. We get 1 random person who performs fantastic! Yet because we are guildies I cannot commendate that person... bit strange imo

There have been so many times I wish I could've given a commendation, but couldn't because I was in a group. Really wish they'd change it!

People already do this now. I don't see how being able to give commendations as a group would change this.

Honestly it really depends on which dungeon you are running. CT is too chaotic for people to stand out, it will normally go to MT. And I do CT with a full FC group usually so I never see Commendations from CT anyway.

But it is entirely possible for DPS to commendations for 4 and 8 man dungeons. I did Qarn the other day as an archer and was just doing what I normally do, teaching people boss strategies and what not, got all 3 commendations, on regular runs as DPS I normally get 1 commendation as well. There was also a time where I did Praetorium as a BLM, I didn't explain strategy for boss fight but started a conversation about custom built PCs / PS4 and got everyone talking, ended up getting 6 commendations for that.

I'm a WHM and this was true at the beginning of the commendation system. However, I now barely get commendations at all and have gone through several instances where no one votes for me. I think everyone just throws their votes at tanks now.

I'm getting more now that I'm leveling bard. I did my Guildhest roulette yesterday and got two commendations from it. I was a little surprised.

I agree I just got out of tanking Brayflox with two other LS members. The pug healer did an awesome job and we all had a blast. Healer gets no commendations because we preformed.

This entire system is dumb. I get every commendation when I queue as a healer.
Sometimes, we get bored and queue for Titan HM to carry some random duty finder bads. Every single time, our healer gets four commendations.

I am hoping there will be a change to commendations. I like the system (somewhat) because I can give someone who deserves notice for a great group but it really sucks when I like to duo with a friend. So while I may get a commendation for my work, I am unable to do the same for others. I wish we could give out a commendation to anyone that is NOT in our group.

I personally play this game mostly to group with one person and so only play during the weekends. In order for me to give them out I would constantly have to go into the duties solo but that defeats the purpose of my playing. I do not like to solo often unless I am crafting.

That or I will just start giving shouts outs to players on the forums... :)

Also... I have gotten a few commendations on my BLM. I think I am probably getting them from the healer because I go in with my friend who is also currently playing his BLM. I know I am supposed to do mostly DPS but sometimes I try to help out the healer. Once the tank or the healer goes down it is a wipe. So I try to help out the team by being a backup when necessary.

I just feel bad that I was not able to give the healer some commendation lovin' because I was grouped with my friend... So a shout out to Geno Thor'son...
