Personally, the fact that Yoshi-P has said that we would be getting news, FINALLY, about the public company system later this month is what I am looking forward to most.
What does the community think we will get out of this system? When do you think it will be fully implemented? What are your hopes? What are your fears?

It'll probably be implemented between April and August. We'll probably get company crafting quests, company combat quests, and other storyline quests that would be part of the main story...

Hmm. It is intriguing but I feel it will have quests and the ability to 'publish' what are, in effect GuildLeves but not counted towards that limit. For example, Linkshell wants logs, posts Leve for set amount of Gil (As in, set fee for the posting) - Botanist takes it finds trees, gains Skill and some cash.
I say this as currently Leves tell you whom you received them from, but what does that matter when you activate them at the Crystals anyhow, and only have the three Adventures Guilds handing them out. Probably totally off, but look forward to finding out.
*Edit* What also points me that way is the referencing them consistently as 'Public Companies' instead of just 'Companies'. I forsee some kind of player interaction at least. -

I do feel Companies are going to end up playing a massive role during this game, they talk about it being a very large aspect of it within the entire community, im thinking that its going to be something that the entire server population has a chance to affect through various actions regarding the future of Eorzea and the 3 City States.
As well as forcing linkshells to communicate with each other, join forces, and set out to do a job. Perhaps with Company Buildings it will end up being a new type of player run guild/organisation dedicated to a cause, as well as a place for your linkshell/company to hang out, customise and make their own, i have visions of linkshells coming together under one banner to fight the oncoming struggle, i feel as if im thinking on too grand a scale here though haha...
Possibly many linkshell crafters will have to get together and invent/create something new together that will radically change the way Eorzea is, like Culinary wonders(Giant Cakes), or the creation of a philosophers stone by a group of alchemists, carpenters, lacksmiths, armorers, weavers to create ships to tackle a threat at sea (Sahagin army).

I'm wondering as well what public companies are, on one hand it could be like a guild system other games have (or a better LS system), on the other it could be some sort of faction system as well. Some things make it sound more like a faction system. Its hard to tell if this is what most people refer to as companies (completely player ran)

I'm of the opinion that the Public company system will be resemblant of the FFXI Conquest system. I'm probably wrong but I should hope that it brings in tactical and strategic gameplay into action, as well as quests, hunts and PvE events that would pit Players against waves of monsters to defend hamlets, or aetheryte's, or even random blips on the map.
More over than that I just hope it brings a new alternative to the Guildleve System..! -

Well are the public companies going to just be player's own guilds, or organizations run by non-player characters that deal out missions and quests? Either way, anything that gives us more chances to cooperate as a party/linkshell/group and take down bosses among other things is welcome.

I hope it will be a massive coöp experience, where all players linkshell or not can just play the way they want. Like with auto placement and such for particular quests of sorts. It will be a great step for us console players and new players to venture into the realm of mmo's. I hope it will be one of the main reasons why anyone should play this game. I also hope it will be a way to discover the world together.
My fear is that there will be too much influence from experienced players, who dictate pre-defined roles that worked in other mmo's for their particular party. It's not a bad thing, but i think new players just want to experiment themselves, especially myself, first before being ordered what to do by some random player. -

How this war will affect the game and areas has yet to even be hinted at. It would be nice if there was in-game Town Crier or something.....an NPC you could talk to and find out what the different nations are up to or something. <.<
Right now, there's nothing in the game's storyline that feels....active. Granted...I haven't seen all the story thus far yet, but I don't really have a sense of foreboding. Sure, I understand that there's some big stuff afoot....but everything is passive. It's like war can not break out until I'm a certain level or something.
Instead of these semi-silly bell-ringing events (I know they're important culturally and such, but in-game they come off as cheesy and pointless in my opinion.) how about having a whole village raised by the enemy? Mobs could be there that are high enough level no one can take them yet.
We need to see what the enemy can do.
We need to know what we can do to stop them.
(But first, there's the whole battle system and class balancing stuff to iron out...according to Yoshi-p)

I was wondering a couple people mentioned before that if in companies we do get to build airships, and use them for battle and what ever. Maybe that is why S.E. hasn't introduced airships to the other cities. Maybe the want us to create them for our companies use and those that can complete the task will have the accessbility to go to each city by the companies airship for free or compete in battles in the sky. We can only hope war in the sky will come.... Day Dreaming.... EPIC!!!! yes please =)

Regarding companies.. I think that SE should limit the number of companies that can be made... We already have the Friend and the Linkshell system for any number of social groups.. I think companies should serve a different role than the usual "guilds" you find in MMOs.
