why is this happening? it says"FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn has stopped working"

Hi guys, I'm having this problem since today, everytime I logged in, I got this error.
I've tried to restart my PC, but the results are still the same.
Is there anyone can help me with this error? :(

I've tried to copy the folder to another pc, but still happening..
maybe my main folder is damaged, but dunno which part..
(hoping there's file check from the FFXIV launcher)

btw, I experienced that right after I clicked "PLAY" at launcher..
then the FF windows pop, then the error pop..

tried renaming FFXIV.cfg to something else?

he/she said today. it would be weird if the driver stopped working all of a sudden. unless he/she has an nvidia and got the driver updated automatically breaking something (they got out a couple of days ago).

and I'm abit confused on "If it works, move the FFXIV_CHR~ folders to the newly created one"

I want to piggyback on this and say I have the same problem. This only happens on my Lenovo T430 but I have not been able to play the game at all on the machine because of this error.

Every time I hit play from the launcher I get the same crash error as the OP. When I try to run the benchmark for ffxiv, the window for the game comes up, instantly closes and I go into back the "launcher" for the benchmark. I have beat my head against the wall trying to play this game on this machine. For reference, My Lenovo computer has an Nvidia NVS5400M with updated drivers.

I can play this game on my other laptop (much poorer specs) and my desktop just fine. However, I want to be able to play it on my more powerful laptop. If anyone has found a solution please let me know.

I had the same error.. after updating my drivers I uninstalled and am now re-installing but mine was un responding before the launcher even showed up :x

I used his solution to get this working. I went and downloaded the directx 9.0c package (NOT the web installation that you would get from microsoft's website, I believe I got the right file from filehippo.), and installed the package. After installing, I could load the game up just fine.

Apparently you need this version of directx in order for things to work, even though I thought I had installed it already. Hope this helps you guys out!

Where did you install the package too?

This is what I did:

1. Downloaded directx 9.0c package (http://www.filehippo.com/download_di...c66a550abc588/)
2. Double clicked file. It asks where you want to extract the files, extract anywhere you want.
3. find the folder you extracted the files to from the previous step
4. find DXSetup.exe among the other files and run it
5. follow the prompts to install
6. after it's finished installing, try running the game

Even though I thought the game automatically installed directx 9.0c, it apparently did not. Once I followed those steps, I was able to finally play without crashing after pushing "play" at the launcher.

Let me know if it works for you too, since this problem does not have a documented fix.

sorry man! I think it has something to do with initial rendering, and that would have to be something with the video drivers. This is of course if you're having the same crash as I was, which is crashing a few seconds after I hit play from the launcher

I click on the launcher and it crashes as soon as it loads up

sounds like a missing or corrupt DLL or something. In the case of the DX9c offline install workaround, something was calling for a specific d3d9 dll that was missing. It's a glitch going back to the launch of Vista that still creeps up periodically. The trick is to get the OFFLINE version of the installer... it's something like 96MB, not the little stub used for the web installer. May have to scroll down to the fine print at the bottom of Microsoft Downloads DX9 page. You want the most recent Redistributable or End-User Runtimes package--it's a complete package for developers to include with an installation package so they can make sure people are on the proper release of DX9 for their software. Otherwise, you might see something in the Windows event logs (eventvwr.msc from the Run/Search box) that identifies the troubled file if it isn't the D3D9 issue.

Edit: This may be the last one they released. The name says June 2010, but it was updated in April 2011--linked to it from the web installer page, under addiional resources there was a link to the "Latest DirectX Redist":

The launcher also relies heavily on Internet Explorer components--might want to go through and make sure it's components are up to date (Windows Update, Flash, .Net, etc.). Initially at Beta4 I had trouble getting content to properly load in the launcher on my XP PC, updated everything related to MSIE and it started behaving again.
