Question about GLD/PLD Gear

Just curious what most people use for thier gear.
Do you use the heavy body and leg pieces that have high armor but dont allow the head and feet pieces. Or do you use all of the individual pieces. Im sure there are pros and cons, but im just curious.

Hey Rizzen! Although most of us hate the double pieces, aesthetically speaking, I would recommend using which ever gives you the most benefit. For example: Add up your boots/leg stats and compare it to the double piece you're considering to see which provides more benefit. Another small consideration is that if you use a double piece you will need TWO items to replace it.

When leveling up (I assume that's what you're asking) you'll basically just want to weigh which gives the most VIT + STR. If a body piece and a head piece give more VIT + STR than a body + head piece, then you'll want to go with the separate pieces. Secondary stats are important (you'll mainly want pieces with parry), but don't trade extra VIT for some parry, as you're the tank and having a static increase in health will be more important than having an RNG chance of mitigating damage. This becomes kinda different later at 50, but most of your pieces will have Parry naturally on it by that point so it's nothing to worry about. Just aim to have the most VIT and most STR as possible.

Thanks! for the advice. What should i worry about once hit 50. At the moment im pretty much going at this alone. The couple friends i played with when ARR released have since quit playing neither were tanks so they weren't much help anyways lol.

at 50 you will get The darklight set to start which, unfortunately is a hed+chest item and a leg+feet item, gloves and belt. its ugly as all hell too. luckily for you they released CT! so this can probably be replaced with some better gear pretty efficiently (i recommend replacing that ugggggly chest/head item first, at all costs, before you hate urself)

Unfortunately, most of Crystal Tower gear is beyond bad with insane amounts of Skill Speed, so you'll probably still be stuck with Darklight until you get AF2 and Allagan, for the most part, or Hoplite, even, if you have some AF2/allagan pieces only.

I tanked Garuda and Titan using the CT Chest, hands and boots with the rest Hoplite and DL accessories. So, the armor isn't that bad at all.

It doesn't matter what the secondary stats on CT gear is outside of Coil. Use it for HM and EX Primals, use it for dungeons, use it for treasure hunts, etc etc. If you can get the chest, get the chest. If you can get the head, get the head. Always prioritize VIT and STR over secondary stats unless you're on t5 and you're in Coil where accuracy actually makes a difference.

I always use dungeon gear as soon as I hit 15. Then At 20 I switch to GC. GC and dungeon will hold you till 45/50 for your AF. There's little reason to wear normal white gear. Item levels on GC are wrong. They're much higher/better than what they say they are.

Highest defense wins the day for everything under 50.

When you buy at the Market Boards, click the item and see if there are High Quality available and the price. HQ are equivalent to aethereal and you sometimes can find unexpensive ones (for example the ilevel 55 PLD shield if you are lucky, it is hard to obtain the drop in WP and it will be the same principal stats.) The stats you see of items without clicking are of the normal quality items, there might be one HQ that suits you and you don't know it at first glance. Yo see the HQ stats putting the mouse on top of the HQ item icon.

Basically, VIT is best (corresponds with ilevel), then Parry (for added mitigation) and Str (for added enmity generation).

In terms of secondary stats (Determination and Critical and Skill Speed and Accuracy)... Determination > Critical > Skill Speed for a PLD in terms of additional DPS. But you ALWAYS want to be at the accuracy cap for the level of content you're doing. For the most part, this means that if you're not doing coil, you don't need to worry about stacking any accuracy... but if you ARE doing coil, you want to be hitting upwards of 470 accuracy (482 is a good "cap" for the uppermost levels of Coil at the moment, counting food buffs)

Back in the day the progression was to grab Relic Weapon and more-or-less full Darklight (I never bothered with the Head + Body, greatly preferring Hoplight gear). With CT drops you now have a little more choice. Darklight Legs are still a very good pick though, since they give good buffs to both Parry and Accuracy.
