I understand that on a ps3 you don't have the same option to do so, only thing i can say/guess is that an older ps3 is probably gonna have a harder time keeping up w/ it compared to a newer one. Just in the same way you could have 2 computers w/ exactly the same insides, but one w/ brand new parts is gonna keep up better w/ one that has been chugging along for 5,6,7+ years. Not saying OP has an old one, just a generalization if some ps3 users have said problem and others dont. PS3 is just a computer when it boils down to it. I guess only thing I could recommend on ps3 is try to delete or backup old unused programs/videos/games to let up the load on your hd and hope it functions better the same as you would on a pc.
