current state of RMT spams

i just realized its been quite some time since the last RMT spam has arrived , a week or more as opposed to getting multiple a day, is the phoenix server not attractive enough for RMT anymore or has been some RMT wiping going on?

can anyone share their experiences on their server lately?

This weekend I had to block more than 10 people for RMT whispertisements.

well mines full too , just didnt have to remove one to add another one lately , i guess it was just a lucky period

I do! But it keeps coming! Sometimes it makes me wonder if the ones that I'm removing are respamming me again. The only time when RMT was quiet was after a maintenance here and there but it started right back up soon after.

SE wont ban a paying account it looks like to me.

Here's the thing with RMT tells. The more you play the more you get, The less you play the less you get. So while some people say I got 10 tells all week and some say I got 50 all week how much did you play? I get a few here and there but I don't play 18hrs+ a day to receive 10 tells from different RMTs after I delete them.

I still see 1 or two every 4 hours or so on Sarg and it is a great reduction from where it was at first. I can actually keep my /tells open now where as before I would always have it shut off because of constant rmt spam. This is a great improvement.

This patch they implemented Right click to add to black list and it helps a great deal because reporting them is so much easier and also the devs stated that they will continue to crack down hard on RMT. I would not be surprised if they ramped up ban efforts and staff in anticipation of the housing price effect on markets.

The best way to determine if there is actually more getting banned is to look at the monthly STF ban reports posted up to the lodestone and compare it to past ones.

Regarding Actions Taken Against In-Game RMT and Other Illicit Activities (Dec. 26)

It's still pretty common to get spammed on Leviathan. I'd wager a 50/50 chance of getting hit by one within the first 5 minutes of logging in. If you don't block it, get hit by another every 1-2min. If you do block it, you'll get another /t from a different name advertising a different site within a few minutes following what would have been another tell (all part of the same parent "company"). You will, guaranteed, get a /tell within the first hour of play though. On occasion, you'll see them going back to the original spamming towns with /shout every second. It's pretty damn annoying.

One thing to note though, I'm pretty sure no one reports them (or very few do). They just /blist them. That won't do anything to notify SE about the RMT accounts.

I get about 4 a day on Zalera. I typically get one within a minute of logging in. No joke. I've gotten one before my screen even fully loads at login.

I regularly prune old names out of my blist, otherwise it would be completely full.

To be honest, i'd like to see SE advertise in the cities to sell gil. Then when the "buyers" give their character name for delivery... BAN! I hate the buyers more than the sellers to be honest. Because the sellers just need money to live, and the buyers are just too fricking lazy to to earn money. I knew someone who bought gil, and his excuse was, making money takes too long and he has a wife and children so he doesn't have time to make that kinda money. So my reply was... Why play an MMO if you don't have time to actually play? But yes, to the OP, spam is still very common on leviathan sadly.

It's either a rain or drought for me. Once in a while, I'll get one. Then (like Saturday) I get one a--hole spamming the same msg over and over. It usually happens after I insta-blacklist a few on the first message. It seems like they just now want to annoy me then to merely advertise to me.

It has been a very long time (maybe a month?) since I have seen spam shout. But I continue to get tells.

I've played a hell of a lot over the last month. 1 or 2 RMT tells in that time.
My FC hasn't really had to deal with them either, so I think they're in low numbers in Cerberus.

On Sargatanas I blocked one /teller last night and pruned 3 others from the week before.
In my playtime (EU prime) I get 3 to 5 tells per week these days.

As for shouts, I don't know. I moved shouts to a seperate bar which I only occasionally open in Mor Dohna, and with party finder even less than before.

just got my first one after the patch yesterday. then the second, the third, and so on. I was like... wtf happened suddenly?!
And it's surely not that I don't play enough for that

From my observation there seemed to have been a lull on RMT spams in Ul'dah & whispers in the weeks prior to the 2.1 patch, but as the patch drew near, it seemed that there was a ramp up on spam that hasn't really abated. At least now it's easier to put them on my blacklist. But if I'm not quick enough, I will get 1-2 spams (at least!) within the span of a minute by RMT.

Hyperion, still get spammed quite frequently.

I am on Pheonix too, and yes, I note a serious decline in this spam

I still do get them....mainly in Corth and Gridania....but definately a real drop.....

I guess this is what's great about Balmug. Only legacy on it and the RMT is relatively small. I thought it was the taskforce being efficient but must bethe other reason.

Tip: Have a different log tab for quest text so that random spam doesn't make reading impossible. Lord knows nobody can see that small speech bubble font that cannot be scaled.

I normally play around 4 hours a day. In the last, let's say, 4 weeks I got around 4 or 5 tells. I reported every one and /blist -ed them.
To my feelings it is an acceptable level.
That is on Shiva, almost always in prime time.

May it be that your server community isn't pedantic enough reporting them? And every community begins with us ourself.

i get about 3 a day most of them say christmas bonus and help your fc obtain a house ect lolol

RMT spam is quite rare these days on Ragnarok. Some tells here and there, maybe 1/week for me.

What upsets me is that characters using bots or hacks continue cheating without punishment.
Some of them are still online even though they got reported months ago.
In fact, none of the ones I reported got deleted and some of them I can see online in the same area everytime I check their name, day after day.

Balmung has lots of new (non-v1) players on it, FWIW.

OT: It was quiet for a while, like 1 /tell a week. Now it's picked up a little. Maybe 1 per day on average. The only shout spam I see is FC recruiting, tho. ;)

I've gotten a few on Excalibur but its nothing excessive. Usually happens as soon as I teleport to limsa but other than that, it isn't as bad as it used to be.

I get at least 3 a day now. After 2.1 dropped I didnt get 1 tell for 2 days, and then for a week it was maybe 1 a day and my blacklist went from 175 to 145 so I was pretty happy. Sadly over the last week or so my list is back up to 188 and the spam in open chat has ramped back up along with tells. SE, look, we know you are working with the RMT, this has been a thing with you since my 11 days, but for the love of god, at least make my blacklist bigger than 200 people if you are going to keep pretending you are "doing all you can to combat RMT".

In the past week I have blisted roughly 40. Today it was literally 2 back to back and then a third not 10 minutes later. Something is up, I haven't seen it this bad in months.

Clear your blacklist. Many of those people don't exist or are banned now. When they are banned they don't turn to [deleted]. I cleared my 150 or so down to the last 10 I added a few weeks ago. Didn't increase my spam at all. Everyone I've added after that was new to the list.

On the OPs note I agree. It's much better lately. I rarely have to add anyone. The new right click ban feature is amazing. I'd love to have a right click report+ban though.

Excalibur. There is a definite dropoff on spam. I get 4-5/week. It's bearable since I can click to ignore instantly.

I play a lot and have got maybe 1 to 3 a day since 2.1 launch. Much less than I used to get.

I think they 'find' you easier if:

1. You are on a non 50 class/job. Since they can more easily search by exact level/job and get a comprehensive, maybe not capped list.
2. You are in a less popular zone....same reason.
3. They found your name because you are actually close to them but don't realize it (towns, busy places)

I have found I get very few RMT tells on my level 50 jobs...but as soon as I switch to a lower class I'm leveling...esp DOL/DOH, that is when I get the /t 's and RMT spam.

i just recently maxed my last 50 battle class, you might be on to something :)

I don't what they're doing, but it isn't much.

For instance, the entire 1 star/pvp gear market on Leviathan is run by a chinese gil farmer. The guy has multiple accounts that bot craft/gather 24/7, with dozens of characters in his personal free company for retainer use. I've counted roughly 30+ retainers selling the items this guy makes. If you undercut him, minutes later you're undercut again. Doesn't matter which item you sell. He even undercuts himself, and is often selling items at non-profit prices assuming you don't gather items yourself (which his army of gather bots do for him).

Maybe I'm just lucky, I've gotten one rmt tell in the last month.

The amount you get spammed is usually in correlation with how much gil your server is buying.

It would be illogical to try to push resources in advertising to a community that does not buy gil versus one that has a high demand for it.

No point in getting $350 worth of accounts banned for a possible $25.00.
