Crystal Tower Drop Adjustments

I understand that the devs want to limit the amount of drops going on, but I think it's silly how they've gone about it especially given that it's not even the best gear in the game for each class (some of it's only marginally better than darklight, such as the belts).


So, here are some suggestions going forward I think everyone could live with.

- Instead of having just 1 drop a week, how about at least 1 drop per class? So if you run on DRG and get a piece of Onion gear, that's it for that week, but you can still hop on PLD and go for a Light piece. Shared gear would count across each class that can use it.

- One drop per 24 hours. This still limits any "loot whoring" without driving people crazy from seeing great items simply just being wasted because no one wants to use their 1 item for the week.

- When the next segment comes out, make it 1 per area. So 1 item for the Labyrinth, and one for the new part and so on.


Or, you know, just eliminate it altogether since there's no restrictions on the new EX Primal/Ultima items and Myth/Coil gear is still the best in the game, and the whole point of CT is to help gear people for doing Coil which is excessively difficult (and let's not forget we've been doing coil since launch successfully anyway so why the c***blocking?!) with this arbitrary 1 a week limit.

It's not like CT is all that fresh/fun - that wore off after about a day or so. If you absolutely have to have some kind of limit, please use a more sensible method like you can only Need once per run or something like that (and if you do, no Greed afterwards). There are better ways of managing this without griefing the entire community with these arbitrary bandaid time sinks designed to keep us playing until the next patch.


Oh, and some way to donate/swap loot with the other parties or a smart-drop system would be greatly appreciated. I saw at least 10 pairs of Fuma Tekko today while doing CT and maybe 1 MNK who actually needed them.
Most of those times we didn't even have a single MNK in the group.


EDIT: How about even just 1 per role per week? So 1 dps, 1 healer and 1 tank drop? That's still loads better than 1 drop without flooding gear.

CT is an absolute blast. Organization on a large scale, and an epic beat down at the end to boot. Absolutely love it. Still fail to see what you're talking about. I can roll for any loot, in any dungeon, for any job, and I can make use of that loot. The armoury system is fine. In fact, the Armoury system currently allows for those who show true dedication to their job to shine out amongst the thousands of other healers or tanks or DPS. You are locked out of exactly 2 sets of armor, in comparison to the 50 or so sets I bet there are our there. (maybe more like 30? I dunno, but it's a lot more than 2).

Nothing wrong with the way things are, you have 3 ways of collecting loot over Dark Light, that's (possibly) 3 peices EVERY WEEK to gear up your other jobs.

Oh well, SE does need to feed their family anyway. I don't see any problem with week lock out. But I wonder if they can implement a gradual progression for 80 gears. Totally RND relied system just makes people washed up and crazy for speed runs.

The armory system is garbage, but that's not what this thread is about (well, not directly anyway).

Goin by OP post, What would prevent me from doing CT on my PLD and roll on Caster loot, then run CT again on WAR and roll on another Piece of caster gear. Using OP logic, we can completely gear up 1 job every week (depend on how amny job you have that can run CT.

It's probably because the primals are actually a little bit difficult to beat. So if you're good enough to farm ex Titan, more power to you. CT is a faceroll.

Oh no.. someone might farm CT for their main and alt classes and gear them out. Horror of horrors.

What's the difference between this and having full 90 now from mindless farming? Or this and giving out DL? If you aren't raiding, then who cares? You can max out your gear or already have anyway. If you are raiding, then you can get more gear faster via coil.

It's silly. It could have been a nice and quick way to get alts geared to go to coil. Instead it's just a slow way to get gear that can be replaced by myth slots or coil gear quickly.

If they were scared of people farming an instance and it becoming boring- why is coil the way it is?

To you maybe. I personally love it. I don't often raid, but have a blast in it. It's not pound your face against the wall hard, but also not face roll easy, since you have to work with and communicate with people who might not know what to do making it more difficult. It's damn near the perfect fun raid for me, especially since FC's can't fill almost all of it and troll pug members like they would in wow by kicking before loot. My only complaint is the loot drop errors, for the last person in group. If you don't pass though, and just wait for the window to expire, it's your own fault.

The Armory System isn't fine. The point of the system is to be able to play every job in the game, but the ability to do this to max efficiency is hampered by the limit on drops in the raid content, as well as having to focus your Myth on one class if you want to play it as best as possible.

I'm personally ok with how Coil and Myth work because they're the highest tier of gear available. I'm NOT ok with subpar gear out of CT I could use for my alts being limited to being looted on once a week. It would take 45 weeks to get all of your classes geared up in CT. (and that only covers half of your gear) That doesn't encourage playing all classes at all.

limiting content keeps you coning back week after week. they want retention not patch players. I'd prefer two chests per boss butt that's just me

Artifically extended content via arbitrary limits is the bane of every MMO player ever to reach "end-game".

We all hate it, we'll all continue to complain about it, and they'll continue to do it because they'd rather you log in every Monday for 3 hours before you've finished all the content you can benefit from for the week than have you log in every patch for a week or two, you might skip a few months that way.

But yes, I agree the CT/Coil lockout and the Mytho caps are both rather annoying and wish they'd be removed entirely.

I would say if they tune the reset timers down to 3-4 days instead of 7, this should be more than fair on both sides of the fence. It allow players to obtain 2 loots per week but at the same time it's the players responsibility to keep up with raid reset timers to maintain the 2 loot viability. I have feeling this will happen as 2.2 comes around to allow players to catch up ilvl 80 range.

I also find it funny people get upset because they feel the loot is "wasted".... No the loot is not wasted because it's just virtual goods... SE can create 100000 chest pieces on the second if they wanted too

The idea that looting should be class base will not work and is ridiculous. The ability to gear up all my classes to t5 standards in 5 weeks is no fun and no challenge. Not a good idea.

People still don't understand how gearing works in this game. CT is not means to gear ur class with all ilvl80 gear, it was meant to "help" plugin missing or rarer pieces of loot so you can start farming coili. Look at this way, start lvl 50 with i60 as starting base gear then start reaching i70 for your base while plugging i80 items so you can start farming coil for i90. Save myth to help plugin missing 90 pieces.

As a casual, that is what this encourages me to do... just cancel until next patch after I have seen content. This is lazy design. Good design would be to put in an AA system, gardening, player housing, or other long term fun things to do that give you a reason to log in everyday...not cripple progress behind artificial barriers.

As a casual, I simply say- "Ok, so I have seen CT and Coil"... why bother with the grind for gear? Hardcores grind the same content and farm for gear.

This model doesn't seem to really fit well with casuals or hardcore players.

Nope. This is what I miss most about pre-abyssea XI.


Want endgame gear? Go do Sky/Sea/Limbus/Assault/Salvage whatever to your heart's content. There were some entry limitations, but no limits on actual loot obtained apart from generally crappy drop rates (which is another thing, why does nothing actually drop anymore? I like loot in coffers to an extent but wouldn't perhaps having the mobs themselves randomly drop loot be better than these ridiculous barriers?)

Plus it kinda makes having THF pointless since it's primary purpose is making money (and hate manipulation but that was new to XI)

1 drop per week = 5 piece (no belt) = 5 weeks x 9 job = 45 weeks (10 months)
1 drop job per week = 5 piece = 5 weeks x 9 jobs = 5 weeks... so after 5 weeks no more people doing CT... and after whining cuz there is no content.

For free very easy to get level 80 gear, 1 per week seems like an ok limit. I was actually running CT more to myth cap seems to be the fastest way to cap if your a tank.

The Armory system is fine. Like you said it allows you to play every job in the game, however, that doesn't mean you get raid loot for every class every week. You have to choose. CT isn't subpar gear, it's transitional gear for end-game raiding just like darklight gear. Lots of Titan hard modes will benefit with CT gear and it will help Coil runs as well. Just because it's not the best, doesn't make it worthless. Lots of people don't have Coil on farm, they will definitely benefit from this gear even if you do not.

In most cases people aren't looking to get all 6 sets, usually 2-3. Oddly enough, 3 sets * 5 weeks per set = about the time 2.2 will land. Maybe they put some thought into it and intentionally designed the lockout so most people would do it consistently until then?

unless you are guaranteed to loot 1 piece of your wanted gear, then that's the optimal time you need to spend to get all gears for your toon.

i only plan on getting few classes only , and i have yet to obtain an item that i could use for this week.

1 loot per week is fine, but could we get some kind of token system to exchange gear please? may be 5 tokens to exchange one gear

obviously one token rewards to players after dungeon completion . this is also prevent players quitting in the middle of the raid

The best thing about removing lockouts would be not feeling 'forced' to run it until you get an specific item.
