I hope they expand upon Treasure Maps, doing them lowman was surprisingly fun, just a shame the rewards are fairly lackluster.
I'd love to seem them drop an item that grants access to special Guildhests with proper rewards (similar to XIs BCNMs), which you can either sell or use, though I guess that isn't really open world... Gives more reason to do Treasure Hunts than an overpriced minion though, I guess...
Treasure Hunting is a very good start. Hope to see many more stuff like this in open world. :)
I'm sorry, but I can criticize a game that I have played, that has not changed. Don't be mean, this is another reason I stopped playing. People are jerks on this game, one of the worst mmo communities I've been with. I asked a simple question, very nicely, and you, Mega Man U, respond like that? Get out of here. I'm Rokien, I criticized 2.0 before it was even released.
Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude. It's just that, you're demanding something that could be in the game already but you don't know because you're not playing it.
Asking a simple question would've been "I haven't played for a while, did they add any open world content?", not "give us some actual open world content."
Hahaha, if you really are rokien it's grand to see you don't even play the game you constantly trashed in the beta forums.
Treasure hunting - you gain a map from gathering, there are different tiers, lower tiers can be completed solo, higher tiers need at least four people. You get the map, it shows the zone with an x on it, go to an area near the x, dig, and a treasure chest appears. A few waves of mobs and then you get whatever is in the treasure chest. Low amounts of gil/tomes, minions, and craft/gather supplies.
This is the first step in the right direction of open world stuff, but it's not competition based like claims for kings were in 11.
Treasure maps are interesting. You get them from gathering. They give you an image of where the treasure should be located, you figure out where it is and scan for it. Once you find it, you beat a boss to get the treasure. All of it is open world, you can check out the A Realm Awoken trailer to get an idea of it.
If it were expanded upon, it could be epic. Imagine competition treasure maps using the Alliance system. Three different parties each have their own piece of the map, they bring it together to begin a race for the treasure. Or maybe it can be cooperative as opposed to competitive. Either way, it can be AWESOME.
There is open world content. They added treasure hunts and daily quests in this patch and more stuff will be in every patch to follow.
But I don't want "pve competition." There is plenty of that in fighting over who gets dungeon drops. Any other competitive desire can be sated by PvP.
You know what we need? more FATEs like Odin and Behemoth. Even some that are targeted for low-mid leveled players. We need hidden secrets scattered through the world, open world mini games (gold saucer is a start), open world dungeons like in 1.xx, and an alliance treasure hunt as mentioned would be amazing...it could reward tomes, gil, crafting items, and some decent gear. Maybe these could only be made so that you can participate in one once a day. Because of course something so fun will have lockouts >_>
Love the hidden secrets thing. The game world is huge but you have 0 incentive to really explore it. I really like how ffxi had Notorious Monsters, you didn't have to kill them, but you got a pretty good reward if you did. They really need to focus on crafting materials and player crafted armor to stimulate the economy. For instance certain mobs dropped a venomous claw in ffxi, these were the main ingredient in a bonecraft synth that made the scorpion harness. Scorpion Harnesses had stats that beat any equip at that levels stats, and were pretty much a must have for evasion classes (thief/ninja). You didn't need to have it, but if you took pride in your job you worked toward one. Items like this make gil valuable. The market is very weak, very little places to make large sums of money, very little incentive to make any more because you don't have anything to spend it on.
I'd like to see more instance content involve open world content... I hate Primals as they are now, they're utterly pathetic with the Duty Finder... I didn't like farming items for Lou back in 1.x, but at least it made the game more playable... Then we have dungeons. OK, they're not open world, but they could easily involve it; Here's a dungeon which you have to enter from its entrance (gasp!), the dungeons story involves some angry badgers in the dungeon or something, in order to enter the dungeon, a FATE near the entrance must be completed which involves clearing a path to the dungeon through all the angry badgers spawning from it. Thinking about it, that's kind of like one of my suggestions for Odin/Behemoth...
Heck, maybe they could just add a Platinum reward for certain FATEs; only one party may earn it, and when they do they get the option to enter a dungeon/trial/Guildhest style event...
open world content can be farmed by bots and gil sellers so SE will never give us any truly valuable open world encounters. blame lazy people who buy gil
I don't really consider them to be in the same category as Odin and Behemoth. I mean something that absolutely requires a TON of players to take down and something that feels like a bit of an accomplishment. Given that FATEs require you to level sync if your level is too high, I don't think it would be hard to achieve this for SE. Incentive for high level players could be tomes, furniture items, vanity gear, etc. And I'd rather see more iconic Final Fantasy monsters be part of these FATEs; perhaps a giant Cactuar that charges a skill called "10,000 Needles" when its HP gets too low, Anima, Evil Chocobo, or maybe a Possessed Moogle.....you get the point, lol.
nevermind.....
Open world content is treasure maps, which are face roll easy and drop mats and tomes. No point IMO. Daily quests are...well daily quests, repeat and get bored. No danger, no great reward, no open world content.
Give us VAST areas, where you feel the wind and the snow/sand in your face, and please, no settlements. I'm talking about wilderness. And let there be something to find in random places, without having to activate a quest first. Stuff hidden in corners and behind bushes (inside bushes?) like materials, gil, treasure chests etc. And the level of what you find increases with your level. Perhaps occationally you might be lucky and run across something valuable?
All this summarized: large areas to explore, and reason to explore them! Please! :(
No, blame the way it is overbearingly thrust on us when certain simple mechanics (as they changed in XI) could actually be implemented to work here. Sellers would not make a dime if them add the flags unique, nosell and notrade to future created items because then there is no profit to be made and its just left to people that either want to collect it for the fun of it (since whatever item it would drop would quickly be made useless by either leveling or gearing up) or collect it for the look whenever they finally implement that system.
Buying gil my be lazy but removing fun before even delivering it is.. well... you know... (just look at fishing if you lack an example)
To be quite honest, I'm more sick of hearing they can't or won't do something strictly because it can be "abused" by gilsellers.
I do, however, enjoy the game. It could just be a lot better if they stopped worrying quite so much about certain things.
Yesh, we want more!
Heh, secrets in games may have worked in the '80s and '90s when the best most people had was word of mouth rumors about secrets. Today, within a couple hours of added content, levels are capped, content is beaten, exploits/glitches are found and made public, and anything you hope to be a "secret" or "hidden" is added to a wiki to be looked up immediately. Times change.
I'd love this. As much as I love and adore the game, the world feels very fragmented. Almost everything is done through the DF. I can honestly think of many things they could do to FFXIV with open world content. Damn, it'd be amazing.
