Difficulty/primals-extreme/coil/gimmicks

I enjoy Role Playing Games and I also like to gear up and become better at the game as a whole.

What i dont prefer or so much enjoy is memorizing a "Simon" type game/fight/content.

I feel the game relies too heavily on memorization as opposed to difficulty.

Turn 2 and Turn 4 are good examples of real difficulty imo. These are clearly not the most difficult of fights but they represent a good guideline of what i consider difficult and not memorization.

If the developers were to remove the "ENRAGE" mode of turn 2 it would be greatly appreciated. This fight is probably the only or 1 of the very few where DPS classes have to actually do something besides dodge and not be completely terrible at their jobs.

Too much emphasis is being placed on tanks and healers not for only memorizing, dodging, but as well as constantly being a step ahead, where as DPS players get a vacation and are easily carried through content.

(the memorization is not only not difficult but if you lag ever.. even once it can cause a wipe as a tank/healer and we all know these servers arent the most optimized in the world. Also the memorization style allows for a great range of different playstyles so parties formed at random fail more often since many people do things differently.)

If the tank dies, or if 1 or certainly both of the healers die its wipe.. if DPS die .. normally its fine.. and that is not what i consider difficult nor fun. Too many times i've cleared content with dead DPS but if a tank or healer is dead its game over.

(Turn 2/4 if a DPS is dead its a wipe pretty much.. i like this importance placed on DPS. Turn 2 finally give a mechanic for DPS to handle.. and requires strategy and constantly paying attention to what is going on.. something tanks and healers have to do in every fight.)

Please stop using memorization as a mechanic and use turn 2 without enrage mode and turn 4 as a guideline for creating new difficult content.

And please remove the enrage mode from turn 2. Thank you.

At the very least make it more of a mix of memorization and skill/ability.

Being over geared and memorizing fights being the only requirement is not that awesome.

Its fun, and i dont hate it but it could easily be so much better if it was a mix at the very least of skill/memorization and not relying on pretty much just memorization.

Id like to see less "simon-says" in the encounters as well, but compared to other games this one does a decent job of putting responsibility on DD. It is the first tier/tiers of end game so i wasn't expecting the absolute best of mechanics to come into play, and as such do give it alot of slack. I would like to see the mechanics to be more natural as the game moves forth, and turn 2 and 4 are nice examples of reactive encounter mechanics (sans the enrage strategy, least as far as ive heard of it I still do it the old way with my static since i thought it was just going to get hotfixed :P)

Guess just as Ideas i mean things like maybe titan would decided to do a landslide if it "registered" enough ppl it could knock off instead of plumes, or when it registers ppl stacked does plumes in a flower like design around the stacked grp, just little things like that, again as i said it is the first tiers of content though so I dont expect them to pull the best of the best out yet and i personally haven't downed twintania yet.
(and been slacking with the EX primals, just did like 10 mins of ruda EX ^^;)

Some people use an "enrage" strat on Turn 2 and hit the enrage timer intentionally to significantly reduce the difficuty of the fight by removing many of the mechanics.

I have to agree with this. A good example is Titan HM and Titan EX. Both of those fights are what I call "artificial difficulty." The ONLY reason anyone has trouble with those fights is when they DON'T know the rotations. However once you know them, it's just dodging the game. There is no actual skill, just memorization and dodging. That said, to add onto this whole "artificial" difficulty, like op mentioned, lag. Even IF you memorize the rotations in that fight, even if you're amazingly skilled with your class, if you lag a half second, you are screwed. So it basically means only people with perfect connections who can play the memory game can get through content like this.

Of course...I may be biased after doing Titan EX like 20 times, perfectly dodging everything. Then suddenly for unknown reasons, mostly likely a spike of server latency at the worst of times, despite being literally on the opposite side of the stage from plume locations, I see "weight of the land" x5 appear on the screen indicating that I ate all 5 plumes. Even my team over voice scratches their heads and says "How the hell did that hit you? You weren't even CLOSE to those!" My KO'd body on the stage a mile away from the AoEs... =/

DPS is easy mode in every MMO out there with the exception of a handful of very creative fights. Passing Rot in T2 does not amplify the difficulty by any appreciable measure (healers participate in order anyways) and T4 is a straight DPS rush for DPS players with some extra care for targeting order. Titan X is harder for DPS, but again it is no easier for healers / tanks. Twintania is more of the same; DPS have an onus to avoid Twisters / divebombs and enter for Conflags / Fireballs, but it's really no harder than any other role as everyone but the MT has to do the same. I think it's an inevitable paradigm that frankly works as it allows average players to find a role in which they can still participate effectively in endgame.

I have a piss poor memory so memorization is a big problem for me and that's why I avoid doing fights like titan HM as much as possible. I don't mind having hard content like monsters having a crap load of more hp and hits harder but remembering patterns is my main problem, So hopefully SE will fix this or compensate in some other form like adding a long quest chain that gives the same reward for doing that memorization hard content.

Basically what Katchii said. I am personally not using enrage method. I can one shot turn 2 just fine using the intended strategy. The DPS in my static is great and know their jobs and dont require the enrage method to complete turn 2.

What i'm saying is people use the "enrage" method because the dps in "their" group is lazy. I would like more content where DPS have to do something besides dodge and deal dps. Because currently the content for healers and tanks is tanks tank and dodge and deal with more mechanics and healers heal and dodge and deal with additional mechanics.. Needs more dps mechanics that doesnt require healers to be even better cause the dps are taking damage.


(Content where if a DPS gets hit they become immobilized not take damage, rendering them unable to deal dps or dodge the next immobilizing attack.. as an example. That a healer CANNOT esuna/leech because that defeats the purpose of it being a DPS only mechanic.)

Not always true, just the other day I did turn 1 with a New PLD, they started MT (for whatever reason) Died within the first 10 seconds, I was still standing in the OT area with my sword not even drawn. After he went down they party said WTF and wipe it. I didn't like this idea, provoked and sheild lobbed 3 times, started my combo, and started to MT it. WHM raised the OT, Split happens @ 2 stacks, OT grabs split i begin to move to OT/Split area but noticed the OT also doing the same, I turn back around back to the MT area. OT goes down again about 1 min into the split fight. I didn't notice till i see my snake move off towards what I though was a healer I provoke to look up and see the OT is dead. This is okay I have been in the situation before but not with this much health. I straight up tank her till 6 stacks at this point I KNOW damage gets bad. I begin to kite clockwise around the arean. Popped HG when 8 stacks hit, after HG runs out i start my sprint rotation saving cooldowns for when sprint is on GCD. Somehow the mages for this fight were on point as a matter fact everyone but the OT was on point. We killed it. The group was shocked that a random group of PUGs could do this with this much health left on Cad. So don't always think if a tank or healer goes down to stop trying. Give it your all.

So which part of Turn 2 and Turn 4 is not memorization?
You memorize where to stand and when to pass the rot in 2. You memorize where the enemies appear, what to do when they do, what to kill first...etc
