HD update? How about a true sequel?
It already is in HD. Much like all PC games circa 2001.
The fact that you can raise FFXI's the resolution to 1920x1080 or 1280x720 doesn't mean it's on HD. You can emulate any SNES game and set its resolution to 1920x1080. Does that make it have HD graphics?
Furthermore, I don't even think FFXI goes up to 1280 x 720 (actual HD resolution) by itself, I think it caps at 1024x768 and you have to manually raise it from there.
Shadow of the Collosus and the other HD remakes are single-player games, u know?
There wont be HD Remakes from MMOs. All you would see are Graphic-updates or a new MMO.
would the graphics update abolish the very ugly abyssea?
i also would prefer a successful ffxiv over a remake of "levelincreaseFantasy XI" of AbysseaFantasy XI, however you wanna put it. But due to its updates it doesnt really offer much to do anymore. Endgame got killed skillfully and there is just leveling and Abyssea. thats it. OK you have choices but... they are useless. Who wants lvl 75 gear as lvl 90? or higher if the AH offers cheap stuff that is way better.
They should have pimped the engine in ffxi instead of making their level increase decision and add new lvl 75 content instead as another option. The increase wasnt necessary at all but it killed the many years of work not only for the gamers... also all the work the game took to be where it was....
Something like this may not be planned, but I think it's inevitable. I think in 20 years we'll have a version of FFXI remastered in HD that you can blow through quicker than you can today.
Actually, the increase was necessary. The content they planned is/was borderline impossible for level 75 characters to do just on a pure formula level. (Everything is over your stats, which means for example Helicies would never do much of anything no matter how pimped out you were at 75.)
The levels also justified the overpowered Empyrean Armor and Weapons. So it wasn't necessary from a personal stance, but it was more than necessary from a game play perspective. Abyssea killed most things prior to it, but it's what actually saved the game.
Ironically, it's exactly like it was during Zilart's release when Artifact armor and relic weapons was released.
yah...just give me a sequel in the more advanced future. Id drop any MMO, including this one in a fricken heart beat if they announced FFXI-2.
You're confusing what a HD Remake is, if you play a ps2 game on a HDTV it will look like crap and be very pixelated this is because ps2 is not an HD Output, so they're making HD versions for next gen, it doesnt mean they're doing what Halo1 remake is and overlaying an engine which is what XI should do, they just upping textures and antialasing and stuff.
XI on a PC is already HD, the ps2 version isnt because PS2 cant output hd, the 360 version is HD, and im sure the ps3 one is if you install ur ps2 version on it. Its not next gen engine, but its HD Display.
Expansions > Add ons. They really suck :(
Perhaps, I feel, the problem lies in the fact that in FFXI the 75 level cap lingered for way longer than it should have. People grew accustomed to it, and they sank a lot of money, time and resources into gear they thought would be permanent. Now that the rules have changed, that's obviously going to hurt. The cap should have at least been risen to 80 years ago to, or at least by 5 levels with each expansion to instill the idea that the cap wasn't permanent.
i think to too. The steadier increases together with bits of content like kupo moogle, crystalline proph. gear etc. (already for lvl 80ies or 85s and such)
would have been a better way but too late now. I liked ffxi a lot and played it several years but i now hope ffxiv is getting good (not just better) and will be a proper replacement of ffxi without copying it too much (still some good things are worth copying instead of leaving them out without a replacement or another better feature)
Wrong forum >.>
I've been playing XI again recently. The lower level party dynamics are good, but as soon as you reach abyssea they all go out of the window and it's just an XIVesque clustershmuck.
Kind of tragic, such fond memories of the group levelling stuff.... And they just threw it all away with the alliance levelling in Abyssea! It's mind boggling!
You wouldn't find me going back to XI with improved graphics unless there was a proper alternative to Abyssea.
I don't remember when the cap was increased to 75. Maybe it was this way from Zilart on. But, I do know I was 75 for at least 3 years and through that whole time working on gear for said 75 only for all that time to be in vain. Not a smart move. They should have just wiped the servers and made us start all over from lvl 1.
Just play the Xbox 360 version, that's the best this game is ever going to look.
PC looks better than 360 as long as you are using Windower. But you shouldn't do that since it's against ToS ;)
I don't see them making an HD update anytime soon, especially when they don't have the manpower to add new zones or even new abyssea zones! People were asking for those things on the FFXI forums and they said "no plans!" lol...
I say that out of speculation because at one point, people were asking for a new weapon type and they replied "no, because that would require the the same effort as making an entire new expansion". xD I read a lot of FFXI fansite news, listen to a few FFXI podcasts, and log in to play once in a blue moon, and it seems like most players really want new zones. They haven't gotten any new (and by new I mean completely unique and not reskinned) zones (that weren't already in the dats) since Wings of the Goddess. Now that they are rehashing old content, people still complain that it's not "new".
Pretty graphics or not, it's still forced party grinding. No, thanks.
What are you talking about? During the time I played (2004-2008) you couldn't wipe your nose without a party.
New MMOs give you choices. You can solo when you want to solo, and party when you want to party. What's wrong with that? Why does having the choice automatically translate into everyone will just solo? That isn't the case.
I love running dungeons in other MMOs with groups, raiding with my guild, then doing some solo rep grinding, or questing, or whatever I feel like. I have choices. I'm not forced to grind with a full party of six to get anywhere.
"Choices" translates into the game itself being unbalanced, which no one can deny none of the MMOs with "solo or group" progression is balanced -- mainly because everything has to be designed for either to be possible. In the time I played FFXI (2001 - 2011) grouping wasn't forced but it was the focus because it was a community based MMO. I didn't have to group to do 90% of my national missions because most are running around from point a to point c. I didn't have to group to do 90% of my expansion missions because most were again point a to point c running except for CoP, which was the only actual true group expansion pack. I did have to group to do events and boss fights.
Nothing wrong with choices, but being realistic, people rather solo than group in MMOs these days or that wouldn't have become a heavy focus of them the past couple of years.
