Well not a lot of active players play on Christmas Eve since they spend time with famiyl and friends. So it has less pressure during these dates.
I'm working on Christmas Eve :(
Dec 25th is actually Christmas day. Be with your family. Open presents. Have some egg nog for petes sake.
Nippon doesn't celebrate christmas (christmess?!?). And even if they do, i couldn't care less.
Go for a walk, eat your cookies, drink whine, eat cheese or simply have fun with your family.
It is a shame that on a world wide national holiday, that there would be a maintenance. Not everyone has family outside this game or unable to traverse the globe to be with them so the people here are our temp/ fantasy family.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve,
Santa came to say,
"There won't be many players here,
So for a brief while you can't play."
Good, I'll get some sleep and be up early for christmas with the kids.
the maintenance is for NA servers..... and well that is a national holiday across this continent
hm i actually dont mind gives me time to spend time with family, and do stuff with them instead of worrying about whats happening in game, or logging in and ending up being sucked in a run with people and have the whole day go by.
the last,
the very last thing that could possibly at all come to my mind on christmas Eve, would be playing a video game.
Did you see a thread like this when they did a maint in Hannukah? XP
Wait Christmas Eve is a national holiday in America? It isn't in the UK. Though Christmas Day and Boxing Day are.
Shouldn't you be tucked up in bed waiting for Santa anyway?
I've way too much to be doing over the next couple of days. And even if I was, so what. Its hardly a major patch. It'll just be down for a small while.
Its like 3 hours around midnight. Its not like the servers are going down for 24 hours.
....here we go again. Oh noes! Maintenance!
I think the more sad fact isn't that there is maintanence on christmas, but that it means that a lot of people at SE are working on the holidays. Seriously, yoshi needs to sleep some time man! I swear, if you look at a before and after comparison of when he just got the job, and now. you can see the bags in his eyes growing and him just looking utterly destroyed.
Christmas in Japan is actually celebrated somewhat like Valentine's Day is here: it's a big date night (i.e., not a "real" holiday, nobody gets time off work). They don't have any tradition of spending it with family and friends the way people in Western culture do (they do that sort of thing for New Year's, so my bet is that they're getting the maintenance out of the way in anticipation of time off for their real holiday).
This pretty much. Christmas in Japan is a commercial thing, nothing more.
Aside from that though, many other countries in the parts of the world that do celebrate Christmas as a holiday seem to also follow in those footsteps as many stores and facilities are open during these days.
Its not like Yoshi is doing the maintenance himself.
You know, Santa needs some time to do his job... so he promised SE nice gifts if they took the game down for him while he works.
Okay. But it's a what, three hour downtime? Can you not survive three dang hours not playing the game? Kinda sad, no?
Aye, I know that is most likely the case, Christmas is mostly a western holiday, but still. Would be nice if they could catch a break. Hopefully they will get a nice vacation during their newyears celebrations, and the golden week I believe it's called when that comes around. Either way, everyone needs a bit of rest every now and then, we are only human after all.
christmas is just a time for people to eat cake lol. Christmas cakes in japan can cost upwards of $500
New year, Golden Week and Obon are the major Japanese holidays.
Aside from that Japan knows a lot of seperate festivals and celebratory days, but they generally do not give time off from work for those.
During those holidays though, if you are in Japan, don't plan on doing any traveling beyond the limits of the city you are in.
Getting a seat in a shinkansen can be a very dificult undertaking unless you are early.
Is this thread for real? Global holiday? National holiday? Western culture?
Last I heard, Christmas was a religious holiday, celebrated by Christians wherever they are found. If someone is not Christian, they wouldn't have a reason to celebrate or take a day off for the heck of it (media and tradition brainwashing aside), but I digress. I agree with others, it's only a few hours. Get up and go to the bathroom or something.
I guess I'll start installing the game til then (finally getting the game tomorrow <3) and just start playing whenever the game becomes avalible in the morning/afternoon, while waiting for everyone to wake up then =w=
EDIT:
And yes, Christmas is a international holiday, but not all countries celebrate it. Japan celebrates the commercial version of it, and maybe .01% of japanese citizens might celebrate the nativity version of christmas. Depends on who you ask.
It's a national holiday in the UK regardless of your personal religious observance. The christianity aspect of it died off generations ago for many families. For most it's just a chance for people to see their family (particularly their extended family) all in one place again.
My work gives me the day off because they can't legally force me to work it and they'd have to pay me double.
You don't know anything about the holiday.
Christmas has been celebrated since before the birth of Christ (if that ever occurred). It is the celebration of the winter solstice and the start of the days becoming longer throughout winter.
It was co-opted by Christianity only a few centuries ago and was originally banned by Catholicism due to its pagan heritage.
All historic evidence indicates that Jesus was born in the middle of summer (if at all) and modern theologians denounce Christmas as sacrilegious.
Today it is nothing more than a universal celebration of the end of the year; A time to reflect and be with family and loved ones and hold entirely ZERO religious connotation for the majority of those who celebrate it.
OP: If Christmas Eve holds any significance to you whatsoever, then STOP PLAYING A DAMN VIDEO GAME and spend some time with your family. Otherwise it's just another Tuesday night and is as good a time as any to have maintenance.
As I said, media exposure and brainwashed traditionalism aside.
If you truly believe that the majority of people that celebrate Christmas presently do it out of love and respect of the pagan beliefs (including the OP's intentional post), more power to you.
its a national holiday in the usa, everyone (or close to everyone) can get off work, schools are always out a few days before and are off till after new years due to christmas and new years. Some businesses are even closed, but alot of the major ones like Walmart and Best Buy and other big corps stay open. Employees always fight over whos getting off, its like a mad rush to the boss to just inform them your not working lol. There is some religious history behind it, but saying just becuz sumone is not apart of that religion cannot celebrate it is a little bit much considering what america had turned the holiday into for the past what 100 or so years? Anyways its completely nonsense to try and start up the topic of religion on the interwebs unless your doing so on a specific religious website which last I checked, FFXIV is not.
