With player commendations, what do you look for when deciding who gets your vote?
I main a healer so personally if it's a group with more then one healer i'll give the vote to my healing buddy. If I'm a single healer i'll give it too the tank (unless he's a crappy tank in which case i'll give it too the most outstanding dps). If you main a dps give the vote to however you think did the best job usually it's the healer who saved your butt when you're about to die, or the tank who pulled agro off you, or even a dps.
The point is pick whoever you think left a positive impression on you, if they knew the run, were helpful, kind, give them the vote.
Dunno if this helped at all.
I don't vote at all unless someone really stoodout.
Helpfulness and performance.
Tanks and Healers always gets Commendation. It doesn't matter how good both DPS performs. As a DPS myself, usually one if not both of us gets nothing [4 Player Dungeon]. And don't give me that BS, I've been through about 20+ dungeon through DF roulette bring friendly, helpful, talkative, and still only gotten 5. That's why I always give the other DPS a Commendation...unless they **** up so bad I'll decide between the Tanks or Healers. And for 8 player dungeons/raid our chance for Commendation is still low.
but their personality during the run and ability to work with other members.
I've seen some nasty personalities during runs and some don't hide their ability to start pointing fingures when something goes wrong.
Ran into a few during Hakke Manor Hard on final boss because we couldn't kill the adds fast enough when I was a Monk. They always blame the melee DD class but the issue was that another party member was kiting those adds so it was difficult to get close to attack the adds.
Generally, I vote for people who I think did as well as me in their position. Was the tank swift, did he mark mobs and hold hate? Did the healer keep up, did they keep everyone alive and were they adding a bit of DPS on the side? Was the DPS doing their proper rotation, were they acting appropriately with boss mechanics?
I rarely vote based on how chatty someone was, and I certainly don't vote for people who explain mechanics I already know. The player they are helping explain the mechanics to should certainly vote for them, but I know the mechanics so I'll vote based on performance (example, plenty of people know Titans mechanics, plenty more still fail to dodge Landslide). That said, if someone is a colossal douche I probably wont vote for them, no matter how amazing they do their role.
Its all a personal preference! I like to go with people who are kind, helpful, observant etc. I have voted for many DPS and have gotten votes myself as a monk. I dont think I tend to lead towards one class specifically because I look more towards who the person is and not the job class. Although I can see why Tanks and Healers get a lot of votes, considering people think us DPS'ers dont do to much :(
I usually try to make it random because I know that it's usually going to go to the tanks and healers. While they deserve it, dps need some lovin' too.
I'm a BLM, so my vote always goes to the other DD.
When I'm tanking in an easy zone if I see a healer stance dancing and dps'ing while keeping me alive I'll give it to them. Otherwise I'll give it to whatever dps I think did the best job in the zone.
It depends how they acted. If the tanks actually led the group without hold ups, if heals also kept up with monsters(realistically if heals can support an under-geared player it also counts), and if dd made life easier for the rest of the party. Those are things I look for when considering who to give a commendation for.
In most cases, my point has gone towards the healers mostly because the tanks and other dd in the party were clueless to what was going on.
Dungeons are a good way to get XP now (which makes me VERY happy!) so I always appreciate things that make the run smoother and faster. A lot of people are saying that tanks get the most votes which makes sense as people are appreciative both that a) tanks are usually in demand since not enough people play them and b) tanks have a lot of say in determining the pace of the run. So yes, a good tank probably will get more votes than DPS. On the flip side of that, a tank that has to mark every target 1,2,3 and plays too slow or cautiously usually doesn't get my vote (and I've encountered far more tanks that fall into this latter category!). I main a tank and I macro mark 1 to Tomahawk, that's all you really need, you don't have to have it all mapped out in advance as long as the tank knows the priority target. You don't actually have to use Tomahawk to mark this way either. If you're out of range or if Tomahawk is on cooldown, you can use the same hotbar action just to mark w/o ruining your rotation w/ a pointless Tomahawk - a 2 for 1 kind of deal :)
So that's a little tangent about tanks and how they get my vote. That being said, I vote for DPS all the time, if they're nice or focus on the targets I mark, if they don't get impatient and pull mobs. In the end it comes down to kindness and smoothness of the run. You only get 1 vote and sometimes you'll wish you could give everyone a commendation. In that case I try to narrow it down to the one who really went above and beyond. If there is no such person then I may decide randomly or throw a vote to a DPS to let them know they're appreciated also :)
I get a lot of commendations regardless of the role I play and I have to say that though I've noticed less commendations as a DPS, it's really only been a slight difference. This is my experience only so yours may vary but I honestly think that if you are nice and make runs go smooth, you'll get a lot of commendations - those are the main things people care about. So here's a little checklist:
-Be patient
-Explain mechanics to new players
-Let them enjoy their cutscenes
-Be conscientious about the quality of your gear so you can pull your own weight.
-Know the dungeon
-Don't tell other players how to play their roles
-Be polite by saying hi to everyone at the start of the run and congratulating them for the win at the end.
-Don't play the blame game. Most parties start blaming people for wiping after the 3rd wipe (sometimes sooner!)
-Be personally accountable. Even if you notice horrible mistakes someone else is making, don't forget to own your mistakes too. I'm not saying don't point out that something is going wrong but you can kindly suggest strategies or ask if someone doesn't understand something without it sounding like an elitist jerk.
Those are the main things I can think of but it all basically boils down into being a decent human being. It is super frustrating to bite your tongue sometimes when someone is wasting your time because they just don't get it. But maybe commendations should be the least of your worries in that case. It's worthwhile to be nice for its own sake without some payment for it and I'm not even talking about for the other person. You will feel better and less stressed too. However, if that's just not for you, don't fret, it's just one commendation (or one run worth of commendations) so if someone is really frustrating you and you want to say something to them that might cost you a commendation or two, it's not like it's the end of the world.
It's up to you how much you care about commendations vs. venting your frustration on someone (and I'm not sure the latter really gets you anywhere anyway) but I think a lot of people do care. The duty finder seems like a whole different place to be now! Maybe they're just being fake to get my vote but really that sort of thing exists everywhere in life. In the end, I'm appreciative of people being nice to me regardless of what the reason is :)
Also, as an aside, if SE wants this to be a long-term attitude adjuster, they will eventually need to add new rewards otherwise the type of people who are just being nice for some prize will cap their commendations and go back to being rude again. I'm sure SE must realize this and I'm excited to have long-term goals I can work towards in a game that might actually make me a better person. I give them major props for this idea!
I look for the person who didn't ask for a commendation or specify a commendation order.
As a tank, I always give it to one of the DPS because they probably never get any. Then I give them a commendation.
As I said in the other thread, I vote for the DPS that protects me from mobs the tank loses. I vote for the tank if he or she has a really good attitude. If there's one new player in the dungeon, and they do exceptionally (either just doing everything right, or being very quick to learn/take advice and show marked improvement), I'll vote for them.
I'm no more likely to give the vote to the tank than I am to the DPS. DPS are every bit as vital to a dungeon's success as the tank is, and the tank is vital, too. Just depends on who stands out that run. :)
I vote for whoever is still there by the time I actually exit the cut scene and get to the commendation menu. You'd be surprise at how often that turns out to be no one...
If someone stands out, they get my vote and I'd like to think I'm not influenced by their job as I've commended tanks, healers and DPS for this reason. If everyone is average/equal then I'll give it to the person that is freindly and helps with strats and stuff, even if I know the strat myself. If everyone is quiet, knows the run and just gets on with it I'm very likely to give it to the other DD. I do think we get the shaft a bit as you can be as awesome as you like most don't notice if you're just a DD. I've run dungeons where I've been top DD by far and single handedly taken out all the adds, promtly and with minimal fuss and not got a single commendation even though nobody else stood out for any reason. This has happened quite a lot to be honest so I guess other DD's have the same experience for the most part so I like to throw them a bone when I can.
I would say that this new feature has significanlty imroved the mood for most DF runs though, far more than I thought it would. I really hope it stays this way and take my hat off to SE for a great idea. As a DD I don't think I will get the most out of it but I do get to enjoy less stressful runs and I'm very grateful for that so I'm happy.
Lots of good advice on this thread.
I will 1st commend someone who explains the strategy for any new player and is positive/encouraging.
As a Tank, I make mistakes and apologize for them if they are significant, so if no specific player stands out, I will commend someone who owns up to their own mistakes.
I prefer a healer that keeps the party as close to max hp at all times, so if I see a healer dealing damage while someones hp drops below 50% I might not give them the commendation. On super easy dungeons this isn't an issue though.
If no one stands out: in the past, I gave the commendation to the healer, but now -especially after reading this thread- I will watch the DPS more closely and try to give them the recognition they deserve :)
As a Tank, I'm always looking for a balance between safety and speed. I appreciate suggestions when I'm tanking, so please tell your tank if you'd like to change the pace. Just be respectful about it :)
Even if someone is a good player, if they seem like they are fishing for commendations, and sometimes it is soooo obvious, they automatically don't get anything from me. You should be nice just to be nice, not because you think it'll get you a cookie.
I will usually give it to whoever I think contributed to the team most. This can be anything from a tank who doesn't wait all day between pulls, a beast DD, or a healer who chips in with the damage.
I give it to the player who
- doesn't get hit by stuff
- dps the right target or does a really good job of healing me when I tank
- is polite in chat (but I don't need you babbling all the time explaining everything when noone asked)
Sometimes it's hard to tell, especially with DPS, if people are doing a good job or not, the harder the content the easier it gets though.
If I have absolutely no idea who should get it/all are equal the one with the prettiest name wins.
Easy checklist: Is it a taru(lala)? Is it cute? Does it respond to my taru sexiness? If none of those apply, Is it at the top of my list for commendation? BAM~
I vote for whoever deserves it most weather they're a better than normal player, someone who takes charge of the group or if its a newer person who starts out not really knowing what's going on but by the end of the dungeon they're a pro.
Tank or healer.. unless they were terribad.. then to whoever was the most helpful/skillful.
If there's another DRG in the group, my commendation usually goes to them...if they did well or even carried the group (and I don't consider myself too bad, skill-wise.) Otherwise it usually goes to who I liked the most during the run based on their performance and/or the personality they convey themselves with. I never give my vote to those who ask for it, though unless they seemed pleasant the whole run.
My main is heal, my secondary is DPS. But there are a lot of factors that go into it for me.
- Did they just do their job, or did they go above/beyond the call of duty?
- Furthermore, did they pull a win out of nowhere when the stacks where against them?
- Were they polite or helpful?
- Were they just terra-bad?
I tend to give the DPS lovin when everyone did well in the party because I know they get the shaft.
Most helpful, or the person with the coolest name.
Normally I vote for whoever either explained things to everyone or who seemed really talkative and friendly :)
If no one talks.. Then I just vote for whoever seemed to do the best in the group. :/
I like to vote for the talkative ones too if there's nobody outstanding.
Not that I go into a dungeon to chat but it can make a monotonous run a little bit entertaining.
*enters dungeon*
Me - "HELLO EVERYONE"
Party- "hi"
*gives that person commendation*
I'm almost always a healer in my groups, so I'm generally watching for people who are smart enough to avoid things. :p Now that doesn't mean one to two hits and you lose my vote, but if you're constantly getting hit by the same stuff...well, y'know.
Actually I tend to give my votes to the DPS who show they know how to do their jobs. PUG/MNK that knows how to position? LNC/DRG can keep Heavy Thrust up and combos correctly? BRD knows when/how to use songs? So on and so forth.
I give it to dps mostly, to tanks only if they mark and do a really good job and also sometimes to healers, as in pvp matches or if the healer had a hard life to keep everyone alive. My first priority are the dps because the get the least votes of all people, after them i look on who had a hard life in the group and did still a good job, i appreciate that alot.
I give it to DPS who actually do damage, healers who heal and don't die, and tanks who mark targets and hold hate. Simple enough.
ran temple of qarn last night. our tank had to poo midway through. i thought it was funny and gave him a commendation lol
I recommend the funny ones.
Whoever makes me laugh gets the fish.
I give commendations to whoever I think the absolute worst player in the group was. It's like my own little suicide prevention plan and the baddies need some love too!
*Don't look at me like that. No one said it had to be for the best players.
I felt that the guy who healed 41K in a PVP match deserved a vote
See that mob with the red name, that I'm hitting? You should attack that too.Quote:
