In this quest you are required to use bootshine on 5 wooden dummies. It allows you to punch all the middle dummy at X: 9, Y:8 in Ul'dah. If you attempt to punch the middle dummy it will start the attack animation and then say invalid target. This is preventing the progression of the Pugilist level 10 class quest.
Edit: Troubleshooting includes log out and then back in, abandon quest and then try again, and abandon then log out and log back in.

I also have this bug. I would like to mention that the Christmas event places NPCs sitting around cheering on the street near the dummies. If I recall correctly that street is normally clear of any NPCs. I mention this because maybe the event NPCs are affecting the class quest in some way.

I also am experiencing this bug manifesting in the same way. The center Striking Dummy at 9,8 in Ul'dah comes up as an invalid target.

Any word on this issue? Multiple people seem to be having this problem with this and other class quests, at least on Excalibur. New players can't get their level 15 class skill nor can they level alternate classes as the ability to do both of those is unlocked after completing the lvl 10 quest. This is completely hindering any progression for these players...

Same problem here on Excalibur.
I've tried redoing the same quest a few times already and it's the same middle dummy that registers as an Invalid Target part-way through attacking it with Bootshine.

I am not sure but I believe that the NPC he is referring to is the target that isn't working not the NPC you get the quest from but I could be wrong. I'm re-posting the information given in the first post by Vedrill in the beginning in the format that was requested.

Aye, completely blocking all forward progress aside from gaining levels with the starting class. Quite annoying. Honestly this is about to cause me to re-roll my character because I want to keep this name, but I also want to progress.

I just logged into my character, after the update on the 24th, to try to hit the striking dummy again. It worked this time. Not sure what was done to fix it but it no longer gave me an "invalid target" message and the game updated properly.
