If that's true, I don't see how it's plausible to use RoD consistently enough for it to make any real difference. It's just too TP intensive. And even it was possible, I'm pretty sure Square does not intend for Bard to do nothing but keep RoD debuff up for an entire boss fight.
The only use I see down the road and as KV-1 mentioned on TP is countering a mob tossing up a temp evasion buff...
To be honest, I think this change in RoD and Hawk's Eye is gonna help us out a lot in terms of changing our BiS gear. We might be able to slot in more crit while forgoing a bit more of ACC. Just a thought, lemme know what you guys think.
Idk. I think when turn 6 and the next gen of content gets pushed out it might help a bit but it will be a temporary bandage as I'm sure that along with new content there will be new gear to be acquired. Which is when the primary concern of most end game bards really come into play. As it stands bards are only needed when the groups inability to be self sufficient is apparent. Basically high end groups right now do not require songs like mana tp or foes to really get the job done. Yes in these situations foes would not hurt but what would hurt is having a class that is is known to have the worst dps while you can sub that class for one that can do considerably more.
ROD was a great bard skill. I understand that this skill was reallocated to warriors so it's not like groups have lost this ability, but bards should have these types of abilities of they are going to be support in a game with no real support classes. I don't mind having the worst dps, but throw us a bone over here give us more songs. How about a dmg reduction song to replace what we lost with ROD one that would stack with the warrior skill. Let's get a heal over time song. Let's get some other songs like resist songs, magic elemental physical ect... Give bards these tool and I bet most bards would care if they nerfed us even more.
Here's what it looks like when you try to maintain 100% uptime on RoD while still doing your normal rotation. And god forbid you miss a RoD and have to re-use it immediately.
Too many variables you aren't taking into consideration in a full party fight. For one, keeping it up on a boss will allow everyone in the party to drop accuracy for more DPS orientated abilities, thus shortening the fight, reducing healing overall needed due to fight duration. Thus allowing you to pop armys peon with battle voice. Also in that video I never saw you use Lancers cross class ability to regain TP. Not to mention with using armys peon it will aid melee to keep higher constant DPS on the target.
Look at it how it can assist the whole party, not just yourself. I havnt tried it myself. But I am not basing it's overall utility based on shooting a target dummy.
None of the endgame fights last for a short 2 minutes, with OR without the entire party being able to be decked in non-accuracy boosting gear.
Invigorate is only 400 TP every 2 minutes, 2 more RoDs every 2 minutes? Still causes you to end up with negative TP.
Army's Paeon is there, yes, but using it would mean being unable to keep up your mana in case the healers need it or even using Foe's Requiem to increase the casters damage.
Trying to justify that the new RoD has any use in any of the CURRENT PvE content is laughable. There is just no place for it anymore on a bard's hotbar.
Wonder inceasing of cri/det on 3 dps'er and less less dps from bard to keep 100% RoD uptime (tp issue) give significant dps increase than current.
I'm not saying I'm for the change ust throwing out some ideas that SE might have used to justify the reason it was changed apart from adding a single target damage down to warriors.
Or is it to try and "increase the difficulty" of content now and forwards. I dont think the majority of BRDs would have boggled if the debuff was kept the same and the damage severly reduced on RoD. also they could have reduced it to a 5% AE reduction and warriors have single target 10% reduction which would make having both a viable option. Or is it in anticipation of new mechanics which would make it, at best, very situational instead of universally usefull.
To try and force the usage of Warriors on players Because of the transference of that utility? I don't know and until we get an official reply why, we can only speculate.
Due to same effect buffs and debuffs stacking (another thought Ive had:P). Virus (pre 2.1) plus RoD (pre 2.1) plus warriors debuff would reduce the damage by a massive amount. Which may be why. Personally I dont understand why they did the debuff system as they have as usually if you put a stronger or equal debuff on a mob (with MMO mechanics) it overwrites and doesnt stack with any other of the same. So 2 10% damage reduction abilities should not stack to 20%, the latter one should nullify the first to allow similar abilities on numerous classes without breaking the encounter.
And that could be at the heart of the changes. Or my speculations could be incorrect ^_^
So, I just tried this. I still ran dry at just below 4 minutes. It's impossible to maintain your normal DPS rotation and RoD at the same time for more than 4 minutes without bringing a second BRD, which is just shooting yourself in the foot when you could instead be gearing for Accuracy. At this point the only way to increase the duration is to just start cutting Heavy Shot out of the rotation entirely, which is a horrible idea.
Decrease drastically the TP usage of RoD and I'll be happy to use it anytime. Heck I'll even suggest to change the build of my partymates to fully utilize the effect of it.
Other than that, it's still a useless skill and will just use it during procs.
Keep in mind that monks have to cut Fracture out of their dps rotation in longer fights to maintain TP.
Fracture is 80 TP every 20 seconds. RoD is 180.
Such a dramatic name for such a lackluster ability
