I wonder... seeing how SE tried to keep the same skills for PvP and PvE for every class, balancing PvP for 1 on 1 might be very hard or impossible!
They should add 1v1 as this game's version of "dueling". No rewards or worrying about class balance, just a novelty mode that allows two players to take each other on in the same manner as the duel feature in other MMOs allowed.

I figured what you said as well but then I went back to check and it said in the last two rows :

So the way they said 1-4 and 1-3 in the other columns it makes it look like the only one that requires no less than 4 is the level 50 last column. I have not tried PVP and have no idea though.

Before level 50 no one nor the system believes a difference is required.
At level 50 there's two brackets:This way if you join as full team, you'll only be battling full teams, and if you join as partial team, you'll be battling partial teams, either way always 4vs4.
- 1-3: This counts as partial party joining, you can join this queue if you are alone, with a friend, or with two friends, and the system WILL put you with other people up to 4 to match party requirements (1 healer, 1 tank, 2 DPS), so this is like traditional DF group queueing.
- 4: If you are joining with a group of 4 friends (premade) you can only join this option (and you must still meet requirements of 1 tank, 1 healer and 2 DPS).
PS: Not interested in 1vs1 but good luck, it won't hurt me if it exists, though I expect it to be a drama bomb, even if some people are ok with "just let us do it, no need for balancing" other people will cry, as usual.
I would like a 2v2 option. The reason SE went with the standard 4 person party is so tanks werent left out, which is what would happen.

a duel system is something that should be put in the game, when you dont feel like doing arenas or boring pve, you can just lay back somewhere with a few friends taking turns dueling and showing off your pvp skills to each other, even if the game isnt very suitable to 1 vs 1 due to some class unbalance it can still be very enjoyable.
dueling will supposedly be possible in the housing areas at some point.
Duel mode anywhere in the world, yes please.

Why wouldn't you? I want duels in housing areas. Imagine the fight clubs that you could host.
I guess there's people that would find it fun, but with how things are balanced I think many would be frustrated.
Certain jobs would get absolutely wrecked vs certain others, zero chance of winning.
They should give us our PvP hotbars in Island Sanctuary and allow me to enable island wide PvP.
No kidding, did the whole empowered melee combo + LB combo as a monk on one once during a Borderlands map in frontline, even knocked em off the edge of the midpoint (though not all the way down). Game's registered damage? Zero. That's right, zero damage, and they had no healer support through this as their team had ran off.
Netcode being awful to the point of disallowing players to even weave heals due to animation queue locks is one thing, but something like that is truly absurd. Was even being helped by two other people against em. Needless to say, that bubble is insanely strong despite what the tooltip indicates. Granted the tooltip doesn't factor in Frontline's quirks.
Square says that they balance some of the PvP through 1vs1 but then if you go play BLM and facetank any melee you'll know that's not true. Also, some of the weaker jobs in CC like Reaper are possibly an unbeatable duel job. Strength wise, RPR, BLM, MNK, DRG, PLD are top duel jobs.
I wish but i also wish the entire balance was made around 1v1s not team battle
