Why is there always maintenance when I can play?

Due to my scheduling I mostly play at night (PST) so why is there so many dang server shut downs and maintenance? We here on west coast America are at a closer time zone to Japan so shouldn't you make it like 2am-5am our time? :D

It makes me so sad... mostly cause it seems to happen at least once a week since I started playing recently.

Someone is always going to be on the short end of the stick.
Most recently in preparation for patch 2.1 a lot of down time has been happening.
I don't see any future down time anytime soon after this maintenance, so don't worry. You'll get your play time!

Bad luck? But really, the weekly maint is pretty much always at the same time, so plan around that being the same for the foreseeable future.

Do expect the random "Hotfix" maint to crop up for stuff that needs to be fixed sooner than later, and they chose the time they did because it's not a prime time slot.

Kinda wish they'd go back to the way they did hot fixes at first, no downtimes, just patching it in live while people are playing.

I hope so.. but when I get in the mood its like I don't want to play anything else so I just twiddle my thumbs and eventually head to bed early.

Welcome to mmos. This is the 419, 356, 901, 112, 003, 920, 529 time I have seen this EXACT thread over the last 30 or so mmos I have played.

The answer IS: They spent 235, 098 hours carefully calculating your exact average nightly start up time and THAT is the truth.

I've actually played MMO's longer than you think, since 1999 and really haven't had this issue before.
Plus being a troll doesn't do you any good other than destroying any credibility you might have had.

Wow! HOW have I seen this exact post that many times... and yet late night weekly maintenance and Patch cleanups post patch is SO normal to me but not you for over 18 YEARS.

I've been playing MMOs for a long time myself, and I have never, ever played an mmo with this many maintenance periods outside of the launch window. We're no longer in a launch phase, yet it's still Defcon 5 over there at SE. They can't keep taking it down every 2-4 days for the rest of the time I'm playing this between the hours of 10p-2a pst... this is twilight hour for a lot of us swing shift where I sleep during the day. This is my afternoon. I get that they're in Japan and that's their priority and I can deal with this being a once a week thing, but tossing the weekly maintenance coupled with emergency maintenance every other day and it just gets to be too much.

For hells, we had 27 hours of maintenance from Mon-Tuesday, and two damn days later they have a scheduled maintenance? It's freaking brutal. They can't keep this op-tempo up for the life of the game.

Every other day.... oh really. Yall are either 100% troll OR delusional. . Pick and seek help.

I think the people criticizing OP don't play at these times and don't realize just how much maintenance there is. I can sympathize and seriously, it sucks.

If all the maintenance happened during "normal" play hours we'd have 1000 reply open letters to yoshi P. hell people complained about the 24 h downtime, so that was one day you all couldn't play and made a fuss.

Its maintenance, it happens, you're not the only one not playing

as a pst player myself, I am happy they put it on 1 am pst as opposed to 11 pm pst orginally

yup I have more maintenance time then game time :o

As has been stated, someone is going to be inconvenienced - that's just life, and you got the short end of the stick I'm afraid.

Also this maintenance is emergency maintenance to fix some serious bugs that appeared after the 2.1 patch that were affecting a lot of players (ridiculously long spawn wait for the new quest FATEs, the 0HP bug for the Tonberrry King in WP, amongst other things), so a couple of hours downtime needed to fix issues is only a good thing.

To be fair, this is the MMO with the most frequent amount of maintenances that I've ever played, and I've played a lot of them over the years. I'm hoping that it's just because the game is relatively new and that they'll eventually die down once the game matures a bit.

I think this was just to do a hotfix, I need new gear thanks to the item levels now so I can run primal I have already beaten but I am in the same boat I come home from work wanting to get a few more runs and blam shut down, trust me I am pretty mad seeing how I think it ran on for a hour more then they said it would and not to mention the fate timers do not seem fixed. I just wish they would do this at lest once a week and not 3 or 4 times a week.

I'm in GMT and gotten pretty lucky with maintenance. I believe this morning it was 7am-10am? I woke up at 11am (It's my winter holidays leave me alone). Ty SE, ty.
