I've had Duty Finder groups where people were nice and kind and were overall good players too. At the end of the dungeon though, it was saddening to see I could only commend 1 out of the 3.

yeah else it won't feel special to get one, I got 1-2 each run yesterday because I gave people advice about how to use pugilist skills, boss tactics and just got nice conversations going so it felt less boring to do the low lvl runs ^^
Most likely because it was originally an MVP award
I feel the same way, I did Pharos earlier and the white mage was giving the new player a rundown of all the bosses, and the dragoon saved us twice by limit breaking as the only person alive, I kinda felt bad at the end cause i got 2 of the commendations even though i really didnt do anything..
It's because it's to encourage everyone to be nice. If everyone got commendations each run there would be no point in being nice to each other.
Regardless I try to be nice to people when I group up with them, but still... I think it's a good system and I like it.
If you care about commendations, do Guildhests. It takes maybe five minutes for each one and it allows commendations. <.<
It's sorta funny now that the problem is the opposite and people are being too nice in DF now. Everyone is falling over each other trying to get that commendation since there are special mounts you can get with them, and the DF is now full of helpful skilled people who would otherwise not DF thanks to roulette rewards. I agree you should be able to commend more than one.
As tank, I generally know exactly what everyone's up to. And it's not really hard to see when a DD is paying attention or not. When it's a silent run like most AK/WP runs are, whether one is paying attention really is the only thing left to decide.
I think, roughly, I've voted more times for a DD than for the healer. Which is just fair, as there are twice as many DDs. :3
Agreed. I know when my DDs are locking mobs and protecting healer and burning the mobs. If I can't decide who was best, I use healer bias (because my main is a healer) and give it to them. I'd say my votes have been 40% healer, 30% DD and 30% tanks. You really can tell who saved lives and made the run smooth.
Oh, and doing things like being attentive with mana song and swiftsong helps too. Just saying--to any of the disbelievers.
Completely disregarding the system before it's managed to really exist very long is just the hyperbolic nonsense that plagues almost all discussion about MMOs. DPS who talks or explains things is going to be more likely to have their name clicked than a silent tank or healer.
One issue with it is you can't commendate someone if they leave the dungeon at the end. What's the point of that? Is there some big fear of AFK'ers receiving commendations or something?
I'll say I don't necessarily like the system as it is. I thought it would be it would be something optional, rather than a guided system. That gives it a lot better value than "Hey commend someone quick" at the end of every dungeon. It'd be nice to see some context on why the person is being commended as well. I understand it's a pretty simple system, but maybe that will work out in the end. Just be polite and slightly social and you'll probably get commendations, I don't think it's very complex.
We are really a long way off 500 though, I dread how long it will take by solo queuing as a DD.
Probably because once you leave the dungeon, the instance server has no way of tracking you down. I wouldn't be surprised.
I would have loved it if we are given the vote option only after we exit the dungeon. And then it gets delivered to us with a message popping up, similar to the notification when someone buys our items on the market board.
I don't like how we have to stay at the end and never know if people have already given their commendations, or are just being slow. So I've always just left after the coffer has been rolled---and when the coffer contains something I can't roll anyway, I just leave. Supposedly tanks will be swimming in commendations anyway, they say.
