Error 2002 - Cannot play the game

So after bashing my head against the wall I was *finally* able to grab all the new patched files to get past the terrible patching process.

Now after selecting a data center (I must select one to progress) I get the 2002 error. This error happens with every data center and not one specific one.

Also tried to play via PS3, finally finished patching and I'm getting the same 2002 error code.

I'm getting the same error. I got the patch for the hot fix and haven't been able to get beyond the 2002 lobby error. I've had no issues with the 2.1 patch until this hot fix today.

Well I managed to get in finally. Not sure if the issue has been fixed or if it was my Norton "smart" firewall causing issues.

Weird, I made sure my AV & Firewall were off and the router ports open and still having this issue. It especially doesn't make sense because of the PS3 having the same issues. Unfortunately I have a router/modem combo so I'm SOL in directly connecting to the modem to further test if it is in fact a router settings issue.

Roommate is having the same issue, him and me are hardwired into the same router and wife is wireless on PS3. Me and wife aren't having the issue at all. Tried a number of things from system restoring to configuring firewall, turning off and removing the anti virus to contacting our ISP and still no resolution. Hope a response or conformation is given at least! Just curious what version of windows everyone is using? roommate is on win7 home edition.

Regarding the thread: Error 2002 I believe it's important to note that this issue has resurfaced. It was locked so obviously we can't continue the thread but the information matches what we are experiencing.

It would be great if we had more input on this error. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC & the have updated to the latest PS3 version. I have yet to re-install my OS, but that is my next attempt to remedy this error.

So an update on this error. I've installed Windows 7 64-bit on a new 1TB HDD, latest graphics drivers and still getting the 2002 error.

Cannot complete the patch without it crashing, using a copy of patched files I downloaded from my work computer. This gets me past the patching problem, but once I try to select a data center it just times out and crashes.

Reset router settings doesn't fix anything with the PS3, nothing to update. I'm just stumped...

I've tried the following ping altering software:

-Ping Zapper
-Battle Ping
-WTFast
-Lower Ping

I was finally able to connect with Lowerping with their New York 2 server.

Sorry to be necro-bumping this, but I am still unable to log into the game without the assistance of Lowerping. This means that I still cannot play on my PS3.

Glad you did. My friend is also having this trouble, and only plays on the ps3. Called se they said it was just his connection. What could he do?

From what I understand, the error is in the routing to the servers. Some people have said it has to do with your router settings but it's still an issue for me even after I opened up the FFXIV:ARR specific ports. No news on the dev side of this error. There are at least a dozen different threads in the last month or so on this error. I'm guessing because it's not technically an "SE Server" issue and more about connecting to the server they are just brushing it under the rug. The strangest thing is it was only after the last big patch that I had this issue. Nothing in my household has changed, my service provider and hardware are all the same. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

As of the 1/9 patch I'm having this issue, but only after several 90K errors immediately following attempts log in to the game tonight. Now I cannot get in at all, just the 2002. Also using Win 7 Ultimate, but it's really strange to me to see this crop up after allowing me to log in previously.

Same issue.. ever since the 9th I've gotten the 2002 error. The first time I was actually able to get into the character selection menu but when I pressed whatever to get in game it crashed, ever since I've got the lobby server connection failure thing.

Well this is awkward but uhh.. tried some other multiplayer game and that was fucked too so I tried restarting the router and well.. works now..
