Thanks for this well thought out analysis of the deeper structures of PVP 1 hour after it has been released. I applaud your use of footnotes and statistics.
Buy smelling salts from the auction house to wake up teammates, get PvP Gear that reduces sleep to a fraction of what it was, get the PvP Skill "Purify" that wakes you up when you're asleep.
Of course level 1 pvp is going to be pretty bad. You need to unlock the skills to start going places. PvP is going to be all about preparation. Sorry you got sleeped though, better luck next time!
A lot of people are complaining about sleep it seems. I understand they implemented sleep-reducing materia and skills to help...but 30 secs as a starting point for regular PVP sleep is a bit ridiculous. Even 10 seconds would have been powerful enough.
Crafters can make starter PvP gear (stuff with morale on it). I'm sure we're gouging the hell out of on the MB, but it's there. Not to say that makes any PvP problems magically okay. I haven't tried yet.

I ran in completely unprepared and won my first match (albeit the other team was probably unprepared as well!). But yeah you need to prepare for it. You're gonna get slept, blinded, binded etc so you have to start building up and getting better gear to withstand it :P It's not gonna be handed to you on a silver plate...
I stand by my original statement. Matches against prep teams have been healer ( or sometimes the whole team) getting slept and someone getting chain pull stunned or whatever from full hp to dead inside of 10 secs. I guess I need to lvl a blm to have a chance. I was hoping going in to this, they might have balanced the cc durations a little, but not to be. Maybe in a month or two when they release a balance patch for pvp.
side note: it threatens to kick you if you are dead too long in the arena ( not taking actions or moving) . Something that needs to be corrected for long drawn out matches where ppl die.

Okay, I get that you can avoid sleep with medicine and proper gear. But what about positioning of melee classes? There is no way they can execute their skills from the flank or behind. Just as they can't hit running targets. I' havent been able to try it out but I'm still curious.

Playing pvp without the proper pots/skills/gears, then complaining about this is OP, that is OP etc etc...
I'm not a white knight, but pleas use your brains before all the drama after 5 mins of pvp.

Not going to waste time quoting specific people, so I'll just respond to general complaints:
1. Too early to claim Sleep is OP. Raw casts can be interrupted easily, it suffers from diminishing returns, and it can be actively countered by teammates (items/spells), Purify, and Fetter Ward. Also, if multiple teammates are getting hit by the same sleep, you played bad. It may be an issue at higher ranks because the games will be longer, but no one knows.
2. Melee doesn't suck. We don't have slows, but we don't need them. Our team can slow for us, and melee dps have weapon throw to remove sprint, gap closers, and strong stuns. Tanks have a spammable ranged ability to disrupt casts while they close in their target, and they have the best lockdowns by far.
3. PvP has been live for less than 12 hours, so why are people complaining? You guys think you're so amazing that the only reason you could lose is poor game balance? Get over yourselves. If you lost it's because you played bad, or the other team played better.
