Petition to have the OPTION to change the "main menu" icons back.

I really hope I'm not the only one who hated this as soon as they logged on.

The main menu icons on the very bottom right hand corner of the screen have been decreased from 18 icons to a mere 6 icons. When you click each icon it opens a drop up/down menu. I understand it's supposed to make it so that there is less clutter on the screen. But I HATE it.

I know a lot of people will read this and think I'm insane and that I should get used to it. But I truly liked how it was set up before. It's what I'm used to.

I'm not asking to completely change it back. All I want is an option in the settings to change it back to how it was. You know how it lets you change your camera setting to either "standard" or "legacy" type. I just want something like that, ya know?

If you guys think that me posting this here will get this issue no where let me know. I'm hoping there are other people who agree with me.

What's so "wtf" about that? I don't want them changing it completely because some people might actually like the change. So I would like an option in the settings to change the menu back. I'm not asking them to force the change back on everyone just because me and some others may not like it.

Agreed, please bring back the old menu or give an option to revert to it. Using common actions like teleporting became much more tedious now.

The second I saw the new menu and clicked on one of the icons to see the big list of icons, I instantly hated it and wished they had an option to have a compact menu, opposed to normal.

I also don't like the huge list of tabs in character screen, either... but that's nothing to do with this.

Just let us pick which buttons are displayed on the micro menu, and allow optional grouping. Problem solved.

i want all fifty bajillion of my menu buttons back

but someone in my fc said something about just dedicating a hotbar to the buttons that you need. so you could probably just make macros with the console commands to bring those windows up.

but idk, haven't tried. the idea just occurred to me while i was typing this post and being irritated with the new menu, looking to see if such an option was available.

I definitely agree that the new system is garbage. Sure, there are less buttons, but now it takes multiple clicks to reach the desired menu. On top of that, the new location of the old menus isn't immediately obvious. Free Company and Signs are now shoe-horned into Social.

@Delorean: That will probably work, but I don't believe you can resize hotbars (at least not individually). That might be a good workaround in the short run, but I'd rather see them fix this issue quickly.

I totally agree with this.

These menu buttons have almost no effect on the game themselves, so why not have an option to change them back to the way they were?
It's now harder to see when Return is almost ready (before you could just mouseover, now it requires a button)

I don't know about you all, but I use all my hotbars, and even more now, because PVP requires more hotbars for different skills.

Bring back the old menu buttons!

I completely agree there should be an option to switch between views (a compact and expanded button view).

SIGNED! This would be wonderful, I love the new menu because it is smaller but I would also like to have an option for the old one so I can use it when I feel like it. :D

I am honestly trying to get used to the new compact menu. But I still can not get used to it. I keep having derp moments where I just forget where everything is. I'll stare at my screen for awhile until I figure out where I need to click.

Hopefully... I am not the only one this happens to. <_<

I definitely agree. When I first logged in I was all like "oh, they made it less buttons by default. That's cool, I'll just go back in and add the ones I want." Then I realized it was those clunky dropdowns, so I started looking for settings to restore the old version. I totally get why they changed it, but there is no reason why they shouldn't let us change it back.

How are they supposed to include new features (such as Party Search and PvP Profile) with each major update using the old method? Keep adding icons for everything? I think people will grow accustom to this approach. You can use one two of horizontal hotbars to recreate something akin to the old menu (well it wouldn't be quite the same perhaps).

Which is why we need to be able to customize the menu bar and add the icons we really want to it. We don't need icons for everything, just a few chosen things to make our life easier. For example why in the world would I need a menu button to un-sheath my weapon? I'd rather get rid of that one and replace it with a teleport button.

If they can't return it to the way it was, they should at least tidy it up.

Character - Stance, Companions, PvP Profile and Achievements should not be in that list, they should be in the Character screen.

Duty - Recommendations should just... die in a fire. Key Items shouldn't be there as no one ever goes to the Key Item section. Timers is kind of nice, but again it's kind of useless.

Logs - They're fine, really.

Travel - I ended up adding the Teleport skill into my hotbar so I didn't have to go in here, so I guess it's fine... They could have added a hotkey for teleport, at least. Return could probably be removed and just kept as a skill, but I never use that so whatever...

Social (this one really bothers me) - Party Members, Player Search, Friend List and Blacklist should all be under 1 thing as they all open the same window, just in different tabs... Remove all but Friend List and this part is fine. Not really sure why Signs is under Social, though, but hey...

System - This button is unnecessary. Pressing ESC brings the exact same thing up. This wasn't for controllers as people with controllers can't use this menu as far as I can tell, and even if they could the start menu is much easier.


It's just extremely messy for no reason. Again, I'm not going to stop playing because of this silly little issue I have, but it's still something that could be greatly improved.

It's a huge, huge user-experience-design no-no to use NESTED MENUS in a mouse-driven game interface. You do that stuff in applications, NOT GAMES.

Bring back the fully-accessible 18-button menu.

Have you played any of the other games in the FF series, before XII at least? They all used nested menus.

Adding to the petition. I can't stand having multiple menus on a controller on the PC when my muscle memory knew where everything was.

Add a hotbar and make it tiny. Create user macros /teleport and /return. Drag these to the mini hotbar.

Agreed, an option to change it to its previous state would be great. For me I got used to those being there. It feels like it takes more clicks to get the screens I wish. I could macro some of this stuff but the original is more convenient.

Doesn't help people who use a controller. Can't access hotbars with a controller because SE lacks foresight on people who do use them.
