They don't even have the common decency to tell us that the extended maintenance has once again been extended. I swear they need better management at SE.
You said the maintenance had been extended to 1am. It's now 1:35am. If there is a problem, please update the info on Lodestone. I don't know whether to wait around any longer or not.
It's up!! For now at least. :)
PS: nvm. kicked out even before getting to character screen.. twice.

you would think they would credit everyone a day of game time for the 25+ hour maintenance with deadlines they failed to meet.
This sucks, but at the same time i am not surprised. After all, 2.1 is already two months late. Not to mention some of the content was supposed to be out at release. So it isn't surprising they can't even finish the maintenance associated with the patch in the time they allotted.
Here's my progress:
1015 - All worlds under maintenance (once) when selecting data center (Aether)
1014 - Unable to obtain world data (a few times) when selecting character (which is on Balmung)
Success! - all in all, not too bad - so keep trying =)
it just lets you get to the title screen that's about it.. =(
guess it'll be 2am PST. =D

Only night I get to play for the next 2 weeks, thanks SE. I want my money back.

This is a big operation so please show a little patience. Expressing your dissatisfaction is not going to solve the servers or the patch downtime we're all experiencing.
It seems that there have not been any further posts about this concern being an ongoing issue. Because of this, we are considering it to be resolved. If this does continue to be a concern, please create another thread to further discuss resolutions or contact the Support Center at support.na.square-enix.com for assistance.
