Upon the conclusion of a duty, the Player Commendation button will appear in the bottom right of the screen. Selecting it will bring up an interface wherein you can commend a party member. Please note that commendations can only be made by those who joined a duty on their own, and not those in a party.
Commendations are only when queueing for df solo, cant be used by people that join with friends.
woops, too late
The only thing I'm really wondering about the whole thing is that it seems to be a little easier to tell when you have a stellar tank or healer in a 4 man, but as far as DPS honestly, I can only tell how fast the mobs die. I don't necessarily always know if both DPS are doing a good job, or if 1 is carrying the other. I mean you can obviously see when someone is continually doing something wrong like hitting the wrong targets or pulling mobs, but I don't know if 1 guy has a fail rotation and the other is making up for it because he is awesome. I know it's all going to be each individuals POV on giving the commendations, but just wondering what other people are thinking as far as it goes. Will you give commendations for whole group as long as you finish instance? Or are you only going to give it to those who really stand out?
*Edit* The same can obviously be said about 8 mans, and adds even more to the mix because you can still tell when you have a good tank as long as they are holding aggro and not doing stupid stuff, but I doubt either the tank or dps really notice, or care if one healer is basically keeping them alive while the other is watching tv, as long as everyone is being healed.
I think it'd be harder for a healer to get a commendation than a tank or DPS, honestly. All a healer can really do is keep people topped off, not be in cleric stance when healing, and be in cleric stance when they're helping with DPS during lulls in damage taken. A good DPS and a good Tank are much easier to notice.
As a tank, I'd give my commendation to a healer every time, though. Just because we made it through.
Ok, just ran my first one since patch and found out you can only give out 1 per run anyways.
I've received a few and given a few. Honestly, my overriding criteria is simply: were you friendly?
I'm a sucker for a person saying "hello!" at the beginning, "gg thanks!" at the end, and not being a douche. I don't know - I think that's the intent of the system. To encourage people to be friendlier.
what do the commendations even do.
So far I've gotten all of my commendations as a DPS, so I don't think we'll have difficulty getting any.
That said, I'm not sure why I got so many to be honest. I simply said "Hello" at the start of each Guildhest/Dungeon and did an adequate job for the most part. The only one I feel I deserved (and I hope the tank got one, too) was my last run of Pharos Sirius where the tank and I explained the fights to the new guys. I ended up giving my commendation to the healer because he did a damn fine job during the Siren fight, although the DRG in our group was just as excellent.
So yeah I've been running various content as various jobs and have gotten like 16 now I think.. what are they for? I heard someone say you can buy vanity stuff but nobody I've talked to knows where..anybody here have an idea?
Theres acheivements for them. 10 50 100 300 500, each achievement gives a pet/item.
10 -> Title
50 -> Chocobo Baby minion
100 -> Vanity Crown
300 -> Chocobo Barding
500-> Gold Magitek Mount.
Redeem the achievements at the achievement guy in Gridania.
Otherwise they serve 0 use. I have like 11 from running some low level dungeons in duty find. Its nice to get. I ususaly try to give someone who was overall pleasant or helpful mine.
I usually toss them at a healer, personally I've made 50 this evenings just tanking roulette guildhests trying to finish the 200 guildhests achievement.
For now, my priority list looks something like this;
1. Someone who was fun to run with (fun in chat, playful, etc)
2. Someone who was helpful to newcomers
3. DPS if they didn't pull any weird stunts and were friendly.
OR someone who saved us from a near wipe by being awesome.
4. The healer of tank, depending on who I liked best.
Things that will make me give the commendation to others
1. Demanding/asking for recommendations
2. Being an impatient twat / being rude
3. DPS/Healer pulling before tank
Chances are that if you are the only person who bothered to say hi in the beginning and did nothing stupid, you will be the one who gets my recommendation.
It's a sloppy system really. Obvious bias to people who do more dungeons, and a less obvious bias towards tanks and/or healers; nobody notices dps unless they're bad. ;)
Edit: Oh and the other flaw: you can't commend someone if they've already left the dungeon. So anyone caring about getting these should not rush to exit after boss.
as a tank I kinda always get one or more I give it to the healer mostly if I was dpsing I'd give it to the other dps. If some one explains a fight they get my vote automatically.
Typically I'll be more likely to give my commendation to a DPS instead of the healer. Don't wanna perpetuate the thought of "Only tanks and healers give each other a commendation". If the DPS actually does stuff and holds a conversation with me, I'll give you the commendation.
+ Points for killing in the kill order
+ Points for checking your aggro (slightly better now with Shield Oath)
+ Clicking items and stuff while we're finishing up a group (grabbing lantern oils and using them while we're still fighting so when the mob dies, we can keep moving)
+ Points for actually talking to me during the dungeon, simply saying "HI!" goes a long way.
Now, if the healer is being a badass by battle-raising people and keeping me alive through hard hitting attacks (Everyone's Grudge) then that will help determine who I give it to. Sometimes I have really kickass parties and I have no idea who to give my commendation to, so I just close my eyes and click someone's name at random lol.
Now that's not true. I main a healer, and yesterday I was farming Brayflox and the monk in the party did a phenomenal job despite not having a ton of experience (first time running Bray, new to game). She got my vote.
So don't say "nobody notices dps." As a healer, I make it my job to assess the actions of the whole party and gauge who is pulling their own weight or is trying to learn.
Attention DPS!
You kinda figure you wont get many commendations...unless someone recognizes how awesome you did...RARE!
I am here to implore DPS to commend each other...well that is if your fellow DPS did a good job. Throw each other commendations!
i think the intention of the system is not saying "who played well" (because this also depends a lot on the gear), but "who is friendly and helpful"
so if everyone is silent the whole run i won't give a commendation, even if they were all awesome players.
As a tank or healer I usually give my commendation to the best DPS. Been running Roulette a lot on my WHM, and I've been doing a lot of helping newer tanks learn their job better, I mark mobs for kills if the tank isn't, I DoT targets with Aero, I Fluid Aura and Repose an add to reduce unnecessary damage if able, and I toss the odd Stone spell in between everything if I have a free moment. Healers can do a lot more than just top off the party.
*Of course you're free to commend whoever you want, this is just my take on it*
Personally, I commend whoever I thought gave the most <*effort*> during the dungeon run. This commendation not being based off gear, class, role, play-style (1v1 vs AoE, healing vs using Holy, etc), socialization, or whether or not I 'liked them'. It's not intended to be an elitist attitude ... quite contrary infact..
(EFFORT != SKILL, DPS, MONEY / GEAR, etc etc etc)
-There's many ways to judge effort that aren't 'skill', such as the willingness of a player to improve, adapt, and work with their team.
On the socialization front, I'd urge everyone to consider the following (since many list it as a key criteria):
Consider that there's players from around the world on all servers for FFXIV. Your party may not be your native tongue, nor be socially adept (some have anxiety in speaking to others)..
[ being talkative or friendly does not inherently make you a better team-player ]
Haha yeah, there is some connection between tank and healer that dps dont have. I'd actually say its a little unfair, the healer will always have a couple extra reputation points with me, nothing i can do about that.
If i was dps, i would give it to the other dps if he managed to outdps me. dps.
Unless it's a BRD that gives me his sexy ballad I usually give mine to the tank, because as mentioned by someone else I have no idea which of the dps is doing or not doing his rotation properly.
Joining AK/WP and stance dancing to help dps with holy spam usually gets me 2 commendations.
Eh, I actually feel pretty high affinity with the tank as as a main DPS (of all roles that I'm partied with).
Always thought of it this way:
A tank relies on the DPS to take down the enemies before they run out of defensive cooldowns, especially in a speedrun ... and the DPS likewise relies on the tank to permit them to unload their full damage.
Everyone relies on eachother in the end for success, a tank dies if the healers can't keep them up clearly.. Yet they also die if the DPS doesn't take out the enemies quickly. It's a pretty symbiotic relation... Prolonged fights also hurt the healer's MP pool, and so your healers too have a connection to the DPS [duration].
Is it valid to say that the commendation window will not appear for those ppl who are in a pre-formed party prior to entering the duty?
The reason I ask this, as I ran a DR Low lvl last night, Haukke Manor, and everyone wanted to give me commendations at the end. I received one successfully from one of the people in the dungeon party; however, for the other two (DPS and healer), the commendation window never appeared for them, only the final loot window.
I believe even if the commendation window is dismissed and you haven't selected a person yet, that you can still click on the notice to bring the window back up?
If not, how would you force the window to appear again? Has this happened to anyone yet? Thank you!
Most of mine have been as healer, I've tanked once and got a commendation then, as dps I've actually gotten two while on my summoner, I think from the healer who acknowledged my response to tanks being dumb (yes hug the self destructing bomb) by using titan and keeping stuff off them. I do tend to give mine out to healers, but as a healer it's whoever was either nicest or kept me safe.
When I played swtor I'd go out of my way to thank dps after a run if they went the extra mile to keep me safe. So I hope there are other healers like that that will give the good dps the commendations they deserve.
commandations are a terrible idea >.<
Which one would you prefer to see?
A. Someone who badmouth you because you made a mistake.
B. Someone who leave the party in the beginning because your iLvl does not meet his/her criteria.
C. Someone who leave the party halfway because you made a mistake.
D. Someone who reluctantly teach you how to do it properly because you made a mistake.
I think the purpose for commendation in the solo duty finder is great.
Because you queue by yourself - don't expect anything from it (I still see and hear from friends that they cannot run through dungeon because he is a first timer or his iLvl does not meet the other party members requirements).
Just be thankful if the party is good and give the commendation to someone who stand out the most.
Easy. If a run is smooth healers should recommend tanks, tanks the healers, and DPS each other. Unless sure, there is some special merit. What I have seen instead is that people just leave as soon as the DF is over.
But it's good to know that healers get voted. It's time to do that hydra fight for the relic of my second class, then!! ^_^
As a tank mine will usually go to heals, unless they let me die in a preventable situation.
The only time it won't is if one of the dps is pulling some really high numbers and is right on my arse for threat the whole time. I don't even mind if they pull off me upon occasion if they are good enough to do so.
