Since all the 200+ furniture items that were lovingly developed will just go to waste for the next three to six months, how about SE just let us decorate our inn rooms? Then we can focus on grinding for items instead of patches of dirt. :)

I like the idea >.> I would love to see what the furniture would look like inside an area, but seeing that an inn room is not considered as a personal house, I don't see it happening.
I'd forego decorating the room if they'd just let me craft in there. Heck, they could even charge a weekly fee, as long as it's reasonable.
In real life it doesn't make sense to decorate a inn room. Same thing applies to the game inn. We don't own this inn room we are just renting it. When you take a trip to another town for a few days stay in an inn do you buy furniture and stuff to decorate your inn ? Probably not.
They may as well just give us the room, given story wise our characters ya'know.. saved their (starting cities)asses more than once. Also wouldn't put it behind me in thinking SE would do just that, seeing they want to go on bout 'limitations' still <_<. So just turn the inn's into single player housing and have the inn keep act like a directory attendant, so that if we want to visit other people and their rooms, we speak to them. Beats waiting to donate an arm and a leg for a mere plot of land later on down the road anyways XD
E: And to make it so SE has the concept of wanting to 'work' for it. Think having obtained your first relic is fair enough. A few weeks of work, for simply the AG to catch wind of your accomplishments and gladly relinquish ownership of the inn's room to you. Thus no need to change the current quest/story line, just adding a segment to let you speak to the inn keep or guild receptionist. Followed by a small tutorial on what's different (i.e Placing items, Different pre-made wallpaper pallets ((which of course would still cost you gil)), etc.). And yer good to go.
From the inner working side of things though, not gonna even touch that aside from simply saying, have the instanced room pull from the custom housing pool that FC houses will consist of.
They should make inn rooms as they made houses in FFXI. Just a little person thing for yourself that you can decorate for yourself. They can even make it so FC items and "inn" items would different categories altogether to save on the eventual player whining about how so and so could take away from FC housing by using the items.
The inn rooms are not ours, they belong to the inn keeper/ Adventurer's guild. Would you like someone staying in your house and start messing everything up? So impolite >.>.
And in real life we have a retainer poof into existence when we ring a bell in our rooms too, right?
...Why do people always compare this to real life? This is a FANTASY GAME, why should we restrict everything to real life parallels?? You're the hero of the freaking realm, why can't they allow you to place some furniture in there?
If they consider doing it, probably would take until 2.3 knowing their pacing.
If we could have our mog house/apartment like FFXI then I wouldn't give a crap about housing. Just want my own space.
Just wait for personal housing to be released.

Be prepared to spend gil per inn for that luxury.
But on a more important note: I'd like there to be more inns in Eorzea. Atleast add inns in Coerthas and Mor Dhona.
No.
How often do you get to put up your own furniture in a hotel room?
Don't be ridiculous.
Actually I know some people who had an extended stay in a hotel (3 month training for a new position) and so they set up some pieces of furniture (cheap self assembly shelving, etc) in their rooms to make things easier in the long term.
As for FFXIV, I'd imagine if the servers aren't fully ready for housing, putting furniture in your inn room would be no different, so it wouldn't work as things stand currently.
I just want my own private cave.
Or island.
Or underground island within a cave...
Is that too much to ask?

Another MMO I played gived everyone a little studio apartment. However, you cn buy a small house, large house, mansior or palace. They can give everyone in ffxiv a small little apartment to call home, until they are able to buy a real house if they so desire. Limit how much stuff you can put it in at once of course, but something for those who don't want to spend millions on a house.
