Sounds like a game over for the caster :( what's the thought behind this?
for pvp only my friend
Yeah, that's why title said for pvp casters.
My thoughts on this.... heh well I play Monk so if the only time I'm likely to reach someone before they finish casting to do any damage is when shoulder tackle is up... and they'd be interrupted anyway :P
But it could mean BRDs are still a major threat to casters despite the long range damage reduction, and watch out for jumping DRGs!
We'll just have to see how it plays out :)
Casters will be the only job capable of maintaining full damage at longer ranges so it seems kind of fair to me though.
good thing you can lvl more than just one job per chr
Without Interupt on Physical
Caster starts casting Cure
Melee Hits Caster for 25dmg
Caster is Healed for 100
Caster cast DoT spell on Melee
Caster Uses Sprint
Caster Laughs and runs away
Melee Facepalms
Repeat Add Nausium
With Interupt on Physical
Caster starts casting Cure
Melee Hits Caster for 25dmg
Caster is Interupted
Caster Uses Swiftcast
Caster cast Cure
Caster Is Healed for 100
Caster uses Sprint
Caster Laughs and runs away
Melee Chases after to prevent more casting but can't use Sprint to catch up.
Without there is no need for the caster to fear getting Hit by Melee. Simple.
Man, those 25 damage Dragoon attacks.
Heh this is more how I hope it plays out (although I don't know if this is feasible, or if any abilities/effects are restricted).
Caster begins casting spell.
Monk sees and uses Shoulder Tackle
Caster is stunned for 2 secs
Monk uses Dragon Kick, Howling Fist, Twin Snakes
Caster unfreezes, and starts trying to run.
Monk uses Steel Peak
Caster is stunned for 4 secs
Monk uses Snap Punch, Fracture, Bootshine.
Caster unfreezes again.
Monk hits Axe Kick.
:D Wouldn't want to be a caster if this works ;)
Stoneskin, Adloquium, Surecast, Swiftcast and any buffs/medicines/etc. provided in PvP content.
It wont be over. Hell, a BLM can swiftcast aoe sleep multiple combatants, and if their CC breaking abilitied are on CD, they are just a couple seconds away from incoming face-melting flares.
yeah and the 100 heal as well..
the point is that a Casters heal Should be able to out heal a Single Attack.
so if the game ever gets to a 1v1 with a melee vs Caster all the caster would need to do to win is stand still and Heal and keep a DoT up on the Melee.
With the interupt the caster has to keep moving making healing and DoT a bit harder to do.
Warrior's new holmgang works like Scorpions "Get Over Here" move in mortal combat. As such I think warriors will be pretty annoying to casters.
pvp will be heaven for bards
Everything will be fine.
Casters were super OP in the pvp beta test (even though they actually were already being interrupted *most* of the time).
Relax guys, its not a big deal.
You need to cooperate with your team mates if you want to win. Sleep or bind the DPS before they get to you, use Sprint if someone is beating on you, use things that inflict Heavy. While there is a CC removal for all classes, it has a long cooldown.
Interspersing off-GCD moves combined with 2 second GCD :) Like Howling fist is off-GCD, so can place it between 2 GCD moves like Dragon Kick and Twin Snakes.
(edit so stun will wear during the Twin Snakes animation, so there might be a fraction of a second where the caster will be unfrozen, but the second stun, Steel Peak is off-GCD so can hit that the second our animation is over.... which is where Ping is going to start becoming very important).
(edit: and also yep those timings are assuming GL3 is up, if it's not though, can just do Axe Kick at the start instead and it will give full stacks).
I definitely fear getting hit by melee when I'm playing a caster in PvP in other MMOs, and they don't have this rule.
Interrupts, stuns, fears, dazes, knockdowns/backs. They are a thing.
Pretty sure you could only duel in beta. 1v1 is NEVER balanced and almost always favors healers.
this sounds like two ten year old children in PvP. if you're fighting a healer everyone knows to pay attention and save your detrimental attacks for when they heal or try to escape. a well placed stun/silence/sleep will make a world of difference when fighting a healer.
Players will now receive the additional effects of other players' actions even if damage is completely nullified by statuses such as Stoneskin and Adloquium. -in the 2.1 Details change log.
also none of those actions you said can break crowd control effects. (at least not while under a CC effect.) maybe i just don't understand what you are trying to say.
no. this is not right. if this was the case then all healers would only have the one heal action. but SCH's are good at damage mitigation while WHM's are good at Healing over Time. whether or not a heal should be higher then a single attack is very circumstantial.
depends on the healing class and attacking class. depends on the actions used. and also depends on the game too.

either way back on topic.
i sincerely wish they would add a stat that allows you to build resistance to interrupts. honestly getting interrupted by an auto-attack is silly. though it wouldn't be bad if there was a stat to build resistance.
allowing these interrupts is like removing a certain degree of necessity for skill from the game. the enemy player should have to time their attacks accordingly. not rely on blind luck. again wouldn't be a problem if there was a stat for interrupt resistance.
honestly in a dungeon more then half the time i end up dead if i pull aggro from the tank. and it can't even be helped sometimes. sometimes it's either heal them or let them die. not much choice. using Shroud of Saints almost never helps.
so when i steal aggro i can't heal at all. cast after cast gets interrupted. very annoying. sure there is Sure Cast and Swift Cast. but you shouldn't be having to use those on a trash mob. the cooldown is too long to be reliable in those situations.
in any case PvP may be a little tough for casters. but you will be on a team. so just hope for the best. but i can tell you now casters will get pwn'ed in 1v1 PvP. (if there is or every will be any 1v1)
and PvP for game pad casters is gonna blow big time. you have to go to Standard camera style. so with this camera you can rotate your character while casting. so this way people can't leave your casting FoV. the problem with the camera though is it may be more difficult to avoid enemy AoE's.
Ah, my mistake then. I'm not a legacy player, so there was no way for me to test it in beta.
I'm honestly not surprised casters were smashing face, though. 3v3 has always been the most balanced of arena settings, as it provides enough people to keep things interesting without bringing in too much burst in the form of multiple dps. Unless your 3v3 team was a 3-dps team - which worked for certain comps and relied on a great deal of control and coordination (and, of course, extremely high burst - no healers to keep you up in a prolonged fight).
I still think their "solution" is completely off-base, though. It's never once struck me as something needed in PvP in other tab-target MMOs, because we already have a multitude of control abilities at our disposal. Having every landing attack interrupt takes all the tactical decision-making out of it beyond "Stick the BRD on the healer and BLM". Not a wise move.
How is getting interrupted by taking damage while casting in PvP any different than PvE right now? If I pull hate off the tank while doing my AoE rotation and the healer isn't tossing out holy, I get smacked and can't finish a spell, so I resort to Blizzard II spam (quicker cast time, especially once you hit UI3)
That's the reason we have Surecast/Swiftcast
well there is always Blizzard II i suppose. if you're a healer you can Bind them melee. and run away and heal then apply a DoT. but this is pretty much all you can do. there's Holy as well. but it's cast time is too long in most cases.
it is next to impossible for a healer to perform in Wolve's Den. if you stay still you die. if you move your teammates die.
if the spell to remove negative effect was an instant spell. then that would help healers considerably in PvP.
can someone give a healer some tips for Wolve's Den please? thank you ^_^
I would like to explain why this doesn't invalidate casters.
But I'm asleep.
honestly it would help if they added some extra effects to a couple skills.
like Scholar's Adloquium or Succor or Scared Soil and White Mage's Stone Skin.
these skills could add protection against interrupts.
yesterday ALL day i played Wolve's Den. i never won a single match. and always died in under two minutes. it's just literally impossible for healers to do anything but run away. i dunno about damage casters. but if you are a healer you are screwed. you instantly will have both enemy damage roles on you. and there is not a damn thing you can do. you can run, but the damage over time will kill you. and you can stop to dispel or heal. but then you are stunned to hell and back. either way it's not good.
the only thing i can do as White Mage is run around like a chicken with its head cut off while spamming Regen. and Regen alone simply isn't enough. it is easily over powreed by damage.
Having played whm in lv30 cap earlier today i think it's fair to say a caster who can't sprint/bind/sleep deserves to get hit. There was this 1 fellow who i was kiting while spamming aero. He died a humiliating death yes, but he didn't tackle me or weapon throw. This game is rock/paper/summoner and sometimes you win and sometimes you loose.
bards are pretty much way over the top in pvp atm, just pick a caster and he will never get a spell off and if they use surecast a silence will still end it and the effect gets consumed at the start of casting so you killed their cooldown too.
and casters don't really have a big supply of instant things they can do like most games.
Sleep, sleep, sleep. The true broken PvP mechanic. 'Nuff said.
honestly. the whole interrupt thing is not just a PvP issue. there really needs to be some kind of stat or system or mechanic somewhere that helps prevent against interrupts. or like previously said maybe an action with an additional effect.
interrupts are an issue in PvE too. just last night was playing Amdapor Keep. was on that crazy wall that spawns the two bees. and Murder Hole interrupted my casting several times in a row. causing us all to wipe. i couldn't heal anyone. and i don't know how the game expects us to. i kid you not i was interrupted over 3 times.
seriously it's the worst.
Seems to me you're going to get arse raped as long as you fail to read.. There is a dedicated PvP forum now. If you cant pick up on that, then you're rfucked fpr picking up what abilities players are throwing at at you! lol
Oh and PvP = LOL
Its ruined every game that its been added to..
Total twats have been leaking out the woodwork since 2.1!!
But, remember, we can sprint. Whenever a DRG/MNK is chasing me... hit sprint, I can get enough distance to get a couple of casts out before they hit me. I have been in situations though when I just cannot get a spell out for the life of me but hey, I chose to play this class in PvP, I'll live with it. :P Most of the time I use swiftcast+blizzard, so I can always get one back over on them...eventually.
