So... tanks in pvp?

Uh... we have to have a tank to PvP... that means that players can only attack the person with the highest emity level, right? ... right? 'Cause if not... uh... what good are tanks in pvp?

Let me rephrase that... what good is a PALADIN going to be in PvP?

being a beefy dps. Enmity gauge in pvp? those things dont exist my frand. supposedly provoke may work for a few seconds in pvp to make you be targetted.

stupid system anyone who has ever done arenas already knows this but the tanks in this game keep saying its a great idea.
This is just going to make duty finder take for ever.
After all the tanks understand they are the unwanted member of the battle they will stop joining making this system pointless.

I dunno much about PVP but being a tank in SWTOR was awesome. We did decent dmg, stayed alive and have abilities that healers would beg us to use and when working together it made for a fearsome team. "Hate" moves would reduce dmg other teammates would suffer if the enemy focused on other players. Done right it would cut the dmg healers suffered down by 80% if the other players focused on them and not the tank. We also got recognition for playing "Tank" like in fights as to boost our rewards at the end of the match. Though there's no telling how it will work in XIV but I did feel tanking pvp was awesome in SWTOR. So it is "possible" that tanks will have a big role to play but we'll have to see if this dev team actually pulls it off.

yea no clue I have only pvped every mmo I have played for the last 15 years so no idea how to win in 1vs1 2vs2 4vs4 8vs8, yup nope no clue.

tanks in swtor can go stealth and it was not arena battles. they "were" good till the nerfs hit like a ton of bricks.

the earlier poster is right. Tanks are usually given abilities that make focusing the tank first a priority decision any smart team would make. In some cases tanks even damage as well as other dps classes do. or mitigate insane party wide damage.

a gladiator cross classing all of the dps boosting abilities?

a marauder doing the same thing?

paladin...not sure...maybe we can stand there and stab people while being ignored because OMFG CASTERS OP KILL FIRST.

if so then you wouldnt be saying all that bs about tanks not being viable in pvp.

A Dragoon cross classing all of the Warrior buffs and PvP CC abilities

No one here played PVP in beta? PLD really ran through people in pvp....

I went over the roles of jobs in PvP today...I don't want to let out some strategy (hey, if I happen to face someone reading this I don't want them to know what I'm doing), but its going to be very interesting.

PLD and WAR are going to be very useful in PvP as far as I can see...all the classes will have uses, but finding a good sync and building a strategy will be key.

Look at the PvP skills again; some classes are being made to counter certain others. And some class's "normal" skills are going to be pretty key to winning

I'm going to protect the bards, mages, go for opposite team's casters and interrupt them. Going to Captain America lob them.

We'll, judging from the 2.1 patch notes from the lodestone front page, tanks will serve as hp/def boosting fighters with some classic stun utility.
I for one can't wait to sink my axe into a paladin..... Heh.... Sounds like fun to me.

A PLD on pvp group is not a greater dps, btw if you join with one, he could use "cover" over enemy focus if the pld is near 10 yalms and duration 12 secs.

Testudo = 50% reduction and 16 secs (unkonw recast time).

Atm i don't know if the stun will be nerfed or have the same effect but, 6, 4, 1 secs on pvp match will be your death.

Each 30 secs you have a silence

Flash blind enemy, so can drop accuracy and enemy attack fail.

Full swing: Increases target's damage taken by 10%

Vs melee: halone reduce strength 10%

Obviously, pld is not a dps and his damage is a crap but can help on different situations.

lets not forget pacification prevents weapon skill use.
