It is said that FC housing is being used as a way to gauge interest in housing as a whole, so as to pace and decide upon the release of personal housing.
Allow me to publicly, for your research, disclaim that I am very interested in personal housing, and so I will not be parting with my legitimately purchased-time-earned coin to contribute to any FC's home while personal housing is still an unknown. I also refuse to deal with RMT sites, you'll be happy to know.
Let me also say that I will not remain subscribed to a game that treats base access to creative expression features like some form of long term goal. Expression is the vehicle, not the goal. I remain interested in FFXIV under the assumption that personal housing will be in an entirely different and personally reasonable price range, to own on day one of its availability as a player, FC affiliated or not, freshly level 50, or earlier.

The irony of personal housing being a room in your FC house is that a good amount of players won't have FC housing to have a room IN.

(Think back to how stupid the requirements for relics are in ffxi, so I would not be surprised at this point if personal housing in ARR is close to the same price as FC housing.)
