So i've geared up pretty quickly after I got my +1 Gae Bolg.
I understand that ideally I will need more i90 pieces. Could people with experience comment on what gear is recommended?
On that note I asked in /shout and got lol'ed for asking about DRG in T5. Apparently people think monk is all that is viable.
Needless to say, that grinds my gears, quite a lot. Monks don't really out dps DRG by a huge margin, and that's ESPECIALLY true if you remember that a DRG will boost a BRD dps. Unless there is some other reason I'm missing, this seems like a FOTM problem. Any comments?

There are DRGs running around with Twintania drops on my server. However, MNKs in general if mastered are extremely effective. On the other hand, DRGs are less than the other 3 dps in every category. Also being the most popular job did not help at all, you are bound to see bad DRGs more than you would ever see a decent one.

Cleared turn 5 on tuesday with a drg, who had top dps. Other dps were BLM BRD BRD all around 9-10xi90 or better.

I play Bard in T5, so while I can't give you Monk/Dragoon specifics I can help with the broader requirements.
Looking at your Lodestone character, your HP is passable but you really want to get it to over 4500 without food. Where you're hurting most right now is your accuracy. You'll need 472 accuracy in order to never miss an attack in turn 5, and it looks like you're currently sitting at 448, which will make things tough.

Regarding your Monk vs. Dragoon thing:
Personally, I think it's silly. Any class can be viable if the person playing it isn't bad at it. A lot of people are sheep, though, and blindly follow the herd once the herd decides that some class is OP/optimal/viable/sub-par/terrible/etc. Personally, my static's DPS composition is BRD/BLM/MNK/DRG because those are the classes we each enjoy playing most, and we prefer playing something we enjoy with people we enjoy more than playing with an 'optimal setup'. -

With regards to your accuracy: I have myth helm and kept Darklight accessories for the sake of hitting accuracy cap. i believe it is 470, or 472. I took the Allagan helm for when im closer to BiS gear.

I would take a "decent" DRG over probably 85% of the MNK population, but a MNK that knows what the frak they are doing will blow any DRG out of the water no contest.
I've got plenty of love for DRG, but (in relation to potential DPS compared to MNK) they're in the right place; DRG play-style is faceroll compared MNK. The buffs in 2.1 are needed because both melee classes need to be able to pump out more than ranged, and I'll be glad to see more DRG getting love in groups. Although, a master MNK (rare as they are) will always outshine. ;)

I play a monk in our static group that clears every week. I do enjoy Monk as a whole but I feel for things like turn 5 where Greased Lightning have a good chance to fall off (conflag to divebomb transition and during Twister phase if you back out for dreadknights) that DRG might be a better bet. There is a way to time it correctly during Twisters to never lose GL3 but its cutting it close.

As a DRG who has cleared Twintania many times now I can happily tell you that we do just fine in the fight. If you have a bard or 2 we are also helping them put out a little more damage as well (this being the reason my group insists I stay on DRG and not MNK). Listening to shout chat for any kind of advice is just asking for trolls to say high. I am shocked people even said MNK was viable and didn't just say LOLmelee.
In all honesty an equally geared and skilled MNK will out damage a DRG in turn 5. Getting unlucky with the conflags and being picked by Twintania for the Dread to kill multiple times probably hurts the MNK more than the DRG. How ever with that kind of luck you probably shouldn't be out DPSing the other people in your group who get to pew pew none stop.
You are about where I was if not slightly ahead of where I was when I started running turn 5. Your HP is much higher than mine was due to your race and will be fine with food and VIT pt buff.
It sounds like you have the ACC covered and understand the importance of hitting the cap. You just need to learn the mechanics and do your job. SE has not set up any fight that can not be participated in by every class/job in the game.
I do hope you are working on getting the Myth body next as it is BIS and hey you already have the pants you lucky DRG. Each week has a chance of making your gear better and in turn allows you to perform better. Dec 17th is right around the corner as well.
Monk or DRG? In turn 5 they both work great pending on who is playing them. DRG has the bonus of adding more DMG to BRD and can pick up faster after prolonged disconnects. MNK adds the bonus of having better damage over time assuming they don't have rotten luck.

Pugs are unlikely to grab melee. Its not a Drg thing... its a melee thing. Every server is packed full of bad drg/mnk. Bad melee do REALLY bad dps.

If your group has a Bard or 2 think of it like this. The extra dmg they do from your piercing debuff is more or less your dmg. It is just put in the Bard's numbers.
Keep your head up in turn 5. After you down her the first time everything feels a lot easier. -

I may be one in the minority...but as of 2.0, I think MNK and DRG are pretty well balanced...if you know how to play them...get the best mnk and best drg together...there wont be much of a difference in DPS...
Play what you want to...sh^t...when I told everyone I wanted to MNK main...ppl were like you should probably BRD...Now, I top most dps with my MNK.
