hints at new (gun using) class in-game

My Wife noticed in the MRD Guild right next to the MRD sign is a sign with a pair of pistols on the opposite side of the arch, also I noticed Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn the leader of Limsa Lominsa has what looks like a double barrel flint pistol at the end of the mission "Feint and Strike" during the cut scene, I just didn't think anything of it till my Wife pointed out the sign, I'll go on my PC and take a Screenshot of the signs and the side of the room a little later. we haven't checked the other guilds for more clues, but looks like buccaneer/corsair may be coming (that's just a guess tho).

The Musketeer's Guild has been around since 1.0. It was relocated in 2.0 to the basement of the Marauders' Guild. It was promised as an upcoming class at release of 1.0, and Yoshi has said that he feels obligated to do something with it because of that. Nothing confirmed, though.

I wonder how they'll implemend it. Its been years since 1.0 and we know that merlwyb is a gun user + its been seen in cg movies and the latest 2.1 patch.

They've also got Muskets in a rack against the wall behind the counter at the Maelstrom's GC HQ.

Camp Overlook; there are boxes just outside of the camp with Rifles sitting on top of them.

I'd love for them to do something with the musketeer, and hopefully soon. It would be super exciting to see a new class before the expansion. :)

If you begin the game in LL during 1.0 you would have been sent early on to the MSK guild, where they hand you a gun for target practice, but someone notices the way you pose is similar to the way a certain Roegadyn held his in the into movie, and grows suspicious, taking the gun away quickly, saying you are not authorized.

Also in 2.0, on the right hand side of the tower's main floor are desks for the MSK guild, and an npc arguing with a city guard "Yellowjacket", that she didn't see why she needed a gun permit before using a gun.

Also Live Letter IX Yoshida said due to the guild already being established, he plans it to be one of the first new classes added.

Hmm interesting, I'll be making a point to keep my eyes open for other possible classes/jobs, I may just run around one day and just look for clues.

Forgot to mention- musketeers are seen in screenshots at the new Pharos dungeon. Its possible they are using enemies as a way of testing MSK abilities and animations.

Personally, I cannot WAIT until Musketeer is released. I've been interested in it since the Musketeer's guild in 1.0. I want my Lalafell to be able to dual wield pistols!

None of the current classes interest me much after Paladin, but Musketeer *sigh* I'm really, really looking forward to it and hope that they keep everything about it under wraps until we're surprised to see it available after a patch ^^

Musketeer-> Pirate/Corsair seems like a given considering the location, lore and NPCs related to the guild :)

That was a mob/miniboss in Pharos Sirius using that gun/blaster move.

That being said the "Jade Fox" in the GSM Level 50 quest has a gun.

Along with MSK, there is only two other dummied-out classes in 1.0 there were meant to have been implemented, but were never available. These two classes are the original form of Arcanist (ACN as originally planned for 1.0 was nothing like how it was eventually added to ARR - it was meant not to be a pseudo-SMN class but instead a weird trapper style class that wielded weird metal staves and were apparently meant to lay traps in battle.), plus a fourth Disciple of the Land called 'Shepherd' (this one was never actually seen but had an empty and unused Guildhall in the hamlet of Owl's Nest in Coerthas, which was not carried across to ARR. It's unclear how this class would have played as, but it's possible it might have worked in tandem with ACN's original 'trap laying' role).

It's also highly possible BRD was originally planned to have been included as a class and not a Job in a different way, as Thancred was always mentioned as being a BRD in 1.0 right at the start, yet he wields throwing knives NIN-style. In ARR he's still called a 'bard', but his ability set is based on GLA accordingly.

So why were none of these classes ever implemented (apart from ACN's addition in ARR)? I guess only Hiromichi Tanaka knows the answer to that, but it's possible the original development team just ran out of time designing their animations and abilities, and hence set them aside for 'later inclusion' which never ultimately happened.

I started 1.0 in Limsa so I've always been interested in the closed buildings/services. As well as the MSK guild, there was also an auction house (not the old market wards, this was something different) beside the ferry terminal in Lower Limsan Docks.

I know people call the market an auction house but I was always hoping they'd turn that docks auction house into a real auction house, like from FF9, where you could bid on rare items NPC's put up for sale or even bid on items being sold by other players. Unfortunately, Bahamut blew that place to Kingdom come a while ago so those hopes were dashed :(

There are a lot of interesting looking places around if ya just take the time to look around and smell the flowers. So many think that all that exists in this game is dungeons, FATE's and gil. Lots of interesting things outside of those rote repetitions.

not really a hint since Musketeer been confirmed since 1.0.

They just never got past the who image stage of that class due to 1.0 sudden change into 2.0.

Still waiting for some kind of info about Musketeer class.

That's Maelvan's Gate, it's not an auction house at all, nor was it ever one, but actually the ACN's Guild (it was meant to be this even in 1.0 - it had the ACN class symbol on the map). Lore-wise the ACNs are employed as Limsa Lominsa's customs agents (hence why in ARR lines of people are shown at the counters waiting to be cleared across the border, and one quest in Limsa involves a goblin having to submit tax report forms to the Guild). There was never any actual auction house in FFXIV as SE didn't want the economy to be ruined via RMT like FFXI's was. But you're right about there being lots of odd little details and interesting things to find scattered around the world - you just have to be prepared to explore. ;)

I believe mbncd is refering to the building nearby Maelvan's gate. It was actually across the way behind a locked gate with a gavel on a placard over the door.

Also, to touch on the shepard talk, not only did it have the unused guildhall in owl's nest, but the npc in Hawker's alley who sold the weathered DOL equipment made mention to selling gear for shepards. (tho he didnt actually sell said gear)

Right, what I was referring to was a building on the south side of the ferry docks, near where the aethernet node is now but further south. Unfortunately, it no longer exists since Bahamut's attack.

Edit: I'm looking for online pics now. Here's a map showing the missing land mass. Can't find a pic of the place itself.

Edit 2: Here's a map of what Limsa is like now, for comparison. Still no sign of the auction house amongst these zillions of screen shots. Very hard to find due to the phrase commonly being used for non auction house related things. I really wish people would use FFXIV terminology for FFXIV things, it would make it so much easier to find stuff like this... Enough whinging from me though, back to the hunt.

I seem to remember a quest in 1.0 that specifically stated (or an npc )that that locked door was Limsa's auction house.

If you looked around there were at least 4 tacitly promised classes on the very first day, not only was there musketeers Arcanist ( which had a very different weapon and looked to be a straight caster support) and the off hand mentions of shepards. Mihkito's ampatheater also had a guild sign above it similar to all the other guilds that depicted a lute and there were several mentions of bards long before jobs were added.

Holy crap, the cutscenes in 1.0 were WORLDS APART from 2.0... what the hell happened? Nothing in 2.0~ and I mean nothing in the cutscenes even gets close to this. Did they fire the wrong people? ~_~

If I remember properly there was also a Shepherd's guild in Coerthas in 1.0. I'm not sure if it was confirmed as a DoL or DoW potential class and as it's no longer there I'm guessing it was axed?

I seem to recall the Market NPC in LL referred to them as 'Herders' rather than 'Shepherds', but maybe my memory is going fuzzy in my old age. It was also the NPC that sold gathering goods, indicating that Herders/Shepherds were a gathering class rather than a BST class.

The original FFXIV actually had a lot of classes lined up to join in as content in FFXIV 1.0 expanded. Of course due to time constraints, certain classes like Musketeer didn't make it in. It would of been interesting to see how 1.0 played out if it wasn't in the state it was upon release. Also, remember seeing this interesting chart of classes possibly intended for 1.0's future that never happened.

The houses in the hamlets were not really guild houses. No one know what the original plan was with them.

In 1.0 he was also a gladiator who said to the ladies he is a bard.
