(2) player content

Hello folks,

Today I would like to get some opinions about something I think is missing in this game, duos.

Duos are mini instances, used by accessing the DF. These instances are for 2 players, the rewards are usually small, and the instances take maybe 10 minutes to complete.

Now, WHY should we have them? Well, IMO it seems FF hasn't got a lot of things for you to do, yes I know, the updates nearly here, but I feel like this game could use a wide variety of choices if it is to thrive.

Also, given dps Q times I believe this would add something they could Q for and not have to wait 45 mins.

2 man instances are best run by 2 dps. This is merely for the fastest possible clear however, and it is possible for ANY two roles to beat them. (Obviously 2 healers would take forever.)

In closing, duos are a thing I really miss, and I am not alone in this. What do you all think? Would you like it if SE added them?

I would love some challenging one-to-two man content, a la Chronicles. It'd definitely offer an additional layer of things to do.

Personally, I don't mind. It is like me doing Garuda once or twice a week, just for fun - not for loots.

It would be difficult considering there would need to be a "casual" party setup, which the only viable one would be tank/healer, which leaves DPS out of all instances.

EDIT: Perhaps when they introduce hybrid classes.

This is not an issue, DCUO for example, has duos. 2 dps is actually optimal for these instances as you can burn everything down fairly quick.

A healer for example is a plus but not needed. Nor is a tank, the ads in these instances will be completely manageable by any two role combo.

Though as I stated before, obviously 2 healers will see a longer run time.

Its not about what roles are viable, because they all would be.

Though I would prefer the instances to be mechanics heavy. If it is just point and shoot, there'll be no fun to it. Not to mention not every class can DPS that well.

Something like running through a maze in pacman style or puzzle blocks on the ground, with a sort of theme like Alice in Wonderland-style.

I agree, mechanics should be instituted. I think its possible for them to do that. I hadn't considered 2 man puzzle and maze lvls. Thats actually a good idea lol..

I just feel like this is a good monotony breaker.

Oh like the little tiny instances from FF11. I remember doing duos and trios all the time. It was great fun. I agree they should bring something back like this, but then again, arent the new treasure hunts supposed to be the same thing?

BCNM's? Or 'Burning Circle Notorious Monsters' the short little fights we went into after obtaining an orb with Beastmen's Seals?

For the record, those weren't instances :o it was a non-instanced fighting arena that you could only access after using a Burning Circle. If there was a group already in that part of the map, it locked the gate, so you couldn't use your circle until the group in front of you cleared it. Oh, the pre-instance days. Lining up to enter fights. Those were the days.

The thing is, 4 man instances are fine and all, but what happens when there are only a couple players on in your FC and you despise the DF because of random BS?

Usually this is late night, or early afternoon. You can do solo stuff sure but why do that when you and a buddy could have some real fun running a duo.

I know in the grand scheme, that duos would be a small part of this game, still I believe that its a small part that would see a lot of use.

You cannot say that at this time SE has accommodated all group sizes. It is obvious lack of 2 player content should be a considered a "minor issue to be addressed" but an issue it most certainly is, to me and a few folks I know.

We can make this game so much more than what it is, I just want to see all players taken care of content wise, whether you are alone or only have a single friend. Although, IMO SE has done more than enough to cater to solo players.

PFFFFT!! My WHM can kick some serious ass in cleric stance. Two WHM's in cleric stance could fly through anything that doesn't need healing. And If two DPS can do it, clearly healing isn't needed.

Now with that misconception out of the way, I fully support this idea. It's just another thing to do. As long as rewards are balanced, I see no downside to this.

The upcoming Treasure Hunts will have fights for a small party. Probably 2-3 people.

You'll have to forgive my lack of knowledge for healers role. The last MMO I played had duos but it took healers longer because they couldn't produce the damage that they can in this game.

2 player content that allows chocobo companions. Give us a reason to level chocobo beyond barding. I could go for that.

I think things like having duos and puzzle-based dungeons would be a great idea. They'd have to make sure to find a way that the puzzles can change though, so that it's different each time (or at least have enough variety that people don't just memorize the answer).

It sounds like something I would do with a friend.

bring back the classic 6 member party, 1 tank, 1 healer, 1 support, 3 dps.

Great idea if every class had significant self-heal (like PGL Second Wind) or recovery items that could be used more frequently.

Either way, looks like more variation to DF would be excellent.

I used to love running Toto-rak duo. It's good when you buddy up with the same person again and again, you learn each others style perfectly.

I realy miss 6 person parties. But duo parties would be nice too. Mix it up alittle :D

you could try being more specific, WHM does great as a DD for burst damage. SCH does DoTs and low burst damage. both are healers
WAR does heavy damage to keep hate where as PLD uses other methods and does not. both are tanks
so WHM and WAR or 2 WHM or 2 WAR would rip through these pretty fast where as a duo of SCH and PLD probably would not.

ofcourse if they made it so there was some dynamic to make up for the lack of burst damage by some classes/jobs

for instance for low burst damage jobs some dynamic is added to make it more interesting such as some sort of puzzle.
or make the reward base on how much your class/job is capable of. lots of possibilities on that

I miss the duo side as i am sure there are RL couples or Friends who want to play and do content but the dungeons at 4 makes it impossible. I would love to see more duo as myself and husband play and the BCNM in XI was a great challenge for people, would be a nice option.

I might enjoy this sort of thing if it were added, but I think I would rather they put the effort toward something else. My reason for saying this is because to make these mini-dungeons workable with any group would mean making them easy enough to be done by any group. Logically, as you've already said, the rewards would be small as well. So if the challenge isn't there and the rewards aren't, what makes it different than doing solo content with two people?

Well its not about rewards, and after a while once tomes are kinda easy to come by you could offer weekly bonuses, like the first duo you do every week will net you 5 tomes or something. After that you could use them for the small rewards and to have FUN.

Fun is really what it's all about, and I dont want people to think that just because any two roles can complete it it must be easy. If you need examples look at DCUO, their duos start simple and go up by tier like their raids do.

And in that game healers and tanks suffer severe damage penalties, if their crappy tanks and healers can run hard duos, ours can too.
