Swiftcast + Stoneskin

I was doing a dungeon a while ago and I sort of did this combo. I had a Warrior topped up, threw in Divine Seal with Regen, and then used those skills. I wasn't really thinking when I did it, but I realised that I could DPS the enemy for much, much longer.

Since Swiftcast has a CD of 60s, you obviously can't use Stoneskin ala Adloquium as much as you'd wish. It should go without saying that this destroys your options for an insta-Raise as well (or insta-Medicas should those situations ever arise).

On the other hand, if you're good enough, I doubt you'd have much difficulty distinguishing when's the right moment to use it. It could be a useful strategy for situations when you just know the tank's going to take a lot of damage. Since the usefulness of it depends on timing, I'd wager that a lot of practice is required for this to be viable.

should the situation arise I think this is a very viable use of a swiftcast CD, a lot of time's if the tank is in critical dmg range and/or about to take major dmg then the party is probably not in need of a raise/or a couple of party members are already down and a raise would probably be useless just for one person (unless said person could also raise).

im using HM titan as my "minds example" but should you be in phase 5 and down a healer with not much left to burn down as titan is almost dead I can see this really helping a tank sustain a bit longer while you tend to critical party members to get the grp through the fight!

put simply, great use of swiftcast depending on the situation! I think many would agree!

I'm not sure about boss battles, because I haven't really tested them. It sounds good in my head, though casting Swiftcast and then Stoneskin would take some time. However, I can say for sure that the Swiftcast and Stoneskin combo is a neat preparation for when the tank is facing large mobs. It allows for more breathing room, and mobs go down faster because you have more time to CC/DPS enemies.

It can be a very useful combo to use, especially in fights where you know the boss rotation. With a combination of adlo + quickened stoneskin + virus, it is possible to reduce Titan's mountainbuster to triple digit damage. It is supremely useful on tanks as the hp debuff and delay from ress is enough to wipe out most parties, or make it completely irrecoverable.

For those who want to practice it, consider beginning in Wanderers Palace for the 2nd and 3rd boss. They give plenty of warning when they're about to use their big abilities and you can stand still to concentrate on the timing, so it is a good boss to practice against.
Afterwards, Ampador Keep's demon wall also has a pattern where you will find the use of quickened stoneskin easy and useful. There's a set use for the boss, but it is also useful training for ad-hoc stoneskin to use on someone hit by the aoe. Once you're used to casting it on the run, you should do reasonably well on primal fights like Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan.

Would definitely agree and I've used it on many occasions with Cure 2, Stoneskin, Medica 2, and of course Raise. It all depends on the battle, and in most of my cases how comfortable you are with the tank, and how much damage you know they can take. Twintania is a prime example for me where I use Swiftcast like it's going out of style, but again depends on the situation.

I sort of use it a little different than most, most save Swiftcast for raise, I do not, and usually I will need to wait for the CD to raise a person. IMO if the content in question is even remotely challenging if a person dies chances are the raise is a waste. If I added all the times I raised people and divided that by the number of people that survived long enough to lose weakness, I could assume that 5% of my raises result in the person recovering. So , I use swiftcast for stoneskin or more-so a method of creating a powerfull heal while moving or instant medicas.

On tonerberry king I like to do swiftcast+SS. Not worried about wiping on him and Bene is usually available if I need a fast heal anyways...

I disagree. Not with casting stoneskin in combat that is viable if not done too often. But the situations I do want to use stoneskin are the situations I got the time to cast it with casttime. The times I would want to swiftcast-stoneskin I would rather swiftcast-cureII. The only exception I could imaging is as a warrior drew his cd´s that would make it better.

I tend to sit on Swiftcast and only use it when absolutely necessary..my priorities for Swiftcast are Ressurection followed by Succor. I only use Swift Succor in accidental mob pulls to help mitigate the 'oh shit' moments a little better.

The only other time I'll use Swiftcast is for Shadowflare against the Demon Wall.

Keep in mind that stoneskin takes a second or so to actually take effect after the tank gets the buff.
