Crafter's & Gatherer's Inventory

Hello all,
I have currently been leveling multiple crafting and gathering jobs and have run into the problem of inventory space for crafting items. Even with the use of retainer slots I can only storage my most essential crafting materials due to a lack of inventory space. Is anyone else having this issue?

I blame this on the horrible shard grind too.

I have 3 stacks of Mahogany logs, 6 stacks of Mythril Ore. I'd like to turn it in to 1 stack of Mahogany Lumber and 1 stack of Mythril plates but if I do I will be back mashing nodes for shard again and I don't want to do it.

Wait...what? Are you saying that shards should be reusable?

The shard "grind" is honestly no grind at all. It is pretty much where it should be. The subject of the thread is inventory space,which is currently at a premium requiring good management skills,but hardly insurmountable.

I think that crafters and gatherers should have access to some kind of additional basic materials storage system which does not take up character inventory space. Other MMOs have such systems in place but limit you to one or two crafts. In FFXIV, we can level all crafting jobs so I think such a mats system is needed for basic materials.

Granted I only have 4 crafts at max but I haven't even filled up one retainer yet with mats. Once I get 50 with a craft alot of the materials because alot less useful. I look up each crafting material on xivdb.com and determine if I will ever make the items again at endgame. I'm using 100/175 and might max out one retainer by the time I finish the other 4 crafts. Not everything is useful forever people. Evaluate what you will need and get rid of the rest.

Currently, a player leveling 15-19 classes has the exact same number of inventory spaces as one who is leveling just 1 or 2.

That makes no sense.

One of the selling points of this game is the fact that one can "do it all" on one character. However, when one attempts to "do it all", one finds oneself severely hampered by inventory space, and sucked into a ridiculous and decidedly un-fun inventory-management mini-game. One could spend hours doing outside research (as Royal has suggested) to determine what to keep and what to toss. Or one could throw caution to the wind and toss anything below X level, only to find out it is needed for a level X+20 recipe. Been there, done that.

My suggestion: For every class above level 10, the player should have the option to purchase another 25 inventory slots. Minimum.

I have no idea how you concluded reusable shards from anything I said. The player habit is to look at the ingredients to gather for certain stacks of material. I'm sure every true crafter would like to have an HQ stack of all parts in stock so they can make any item on request. They know they need 3x99 logs for a stack of lumber. Many will go out and do that with little complaint. Then it occurs tot hem they need 594 shards to make that 3x99 logs in to Lumber and it just sits there until they throw it away.

I absolutely understand the point and storing only the items you currently need for you level but I like to keep lower level mats on hand to create items for level level jobs seeking on the marketboard as well as FC members who need stuff lower than my crafting level.

I almost have 8/8 crafts at 50 and honestly, I don't have this inventory problem people are having. Both my retainers are only filled with a page and a half out of 7 pages each. If I ever need to get some mats to craft lower level stuffs for FCs, I'll just jump on my gatherer, did some gathering enough for the mats, make it and be done with it instead of having them in my inventory in the off-chance that someone might need it.

I think I took it as you saying that you end up holding shards rather than crafting them because they get used up. Anyway, the way it works is men t to fuel the crafting market. It can often be more advantageous to sell off raw mats rather than crafting them into another mat to craft an item with. Sell the raw mats and buy the actual mats you need . Not always but often you will find you make more gil.

I only just ended my second month of playing,I played around in 3 beta phases but honestly did not intend to play this until 4 irl friends started it.

I only have 2 crafts at 50 and 2 DoL over 40,2 DoM 50. However, I made profit at pretty much every step. I always ended a crafting cycle with more gil than I invested. I have never found shards to be an issue. Then again I do not insist on gathering everything and stocking it because I can. My prioritty was only that I make profit and move forward doing so. Even still I did not,and do not now gather every single shard and mat I use. If im going to burn up a ton of shards and flax to make linen thread, often its better to just sell those mats and buy some thread. HQ threads even sometimes. Just have to be willing to shop when its in that context. At max lvl, you know what you deal with so weather or not to stock is more personal .
