Questions about overhealing

In my experience from other MMOs, overhealing is bad in almost all cases. So what's the deal in XIV?

• Do the overhealed amount generate aggro in the same way as actual health healed?
• Do Regen or Eos HoT overheals generate aggro as well?
• Is HoT aggro generated each tick or at the start/end of the spell duration?
• Can you check how much as overhealed in parsers or in-game combat logs?
• Are SCH adloqium shields affected in any way by overhealing? (overheal boosting shield or overheal reducing shield strength)

How bad is it to overheal in general in XIV? How bad is it to overheal in HM Primals compared to Coil? Help a fellow healer out here! :confused:

Over healing is just as bad. You'll get more hate if you over heal. Regen is per tick. Not sure about parsers because it shows how much you healed, not that targets HP.

Over healing doesn't affect adloq negatively. Just your increase in hate.

In general, it's bad, but a couple times in a dungeon run is acceptable.
In primal fights it's not too bad because there are no adds, and tank usually take constant damage so healer can't really overheal much.
In coil, turn 1 and 2 are same as primal (single BOSS), but need to pay more attention in Turn 4 & 5. However, still it's not that bad because tank usually take so much damage that WHM can use Cure II all along and just be able to keep tank alive.

Overhealing in Titan HM is common so beware of your aggro meter. Use shroud if needed but if you're a SCH you shouldn't even be close.

What the above said ^^ but just to add - watch for the split in T1 Overhealing at the wrong time will wipe the party so Stoneskin/Adloq the OT prior to the split to save getting aggro. And keep your fairy on steady if you're a SCH at those times.

Depends on your class. White mages tend to have high threat generation and MP concerns so you don't want to be wasting on overheals. Scholars on the otherhand have a lot lower threat and higher MP regen so they can be a bit more generous when throwing heals, especially since overhealing on Adloquium and Succor will still create a shield.

I think the double is incorrect. But overheal does generate aggro, the same aggro as normal heals. So in other words one Regen or one Cure will generate the same aggro regardless of how much HP the target has (disregarding crits.)

I read somewhere and tested slightly with my Chocobo that Regen over heal ticks for 2 times more threat than normal heals, Cure and Cure 2 is 1.5 Threat per point of overheal. Shields do not count as overheal. Shield also doesn't generate much threat from what I observe to be about 1 threat point. Aka if you face pull a target and Stoneskin the target you will get threat.

So prove it. I've looked into this rumor and found nothing to support it. It's almost impossible to test, there is no official response that I can find, and it doesn't feel like double agro when I'm healing. It also makes no sense. Overheal is already punished by wasted mana and needless threat, why make it even more punishing?

I havent done any reseasrch about Regen. but it doesnt took long to me to figured out that regen UP, aggro everything that the Tank didnot claim when he pull.

Buffs and HoTs (like Regen) generate a small amount of threat when they're cast (70ish) aside from the actual healing enmity.

I'm inclined to agree. The over healing, aside from being sloppy technique is an aggro magnet, and MP black hole. In general, it's bad news. In terms of how bad I'd say it's based on content. In WP, who cares. In Titan or coil, it literally could wipe the party.

As far as I've understood it, all heals pulse aggro from the person healed where the aggro is assigned to the healer. So for every tick of regen, a pulse of enmity is assigned to the white mage. If the tank is too slow to pull AoE aggro before or between ticks, the mobs will aggro the healer, even if the actual value is low.

So far I haven't found any indicators or parser tools for overhealing, which is a damn shame. How do people research aggro amounts for heals? Are there numbers anywhere you can check or do you wing it with the aggro bars on the party list?
