We are working on our 9th month of retail and we still dont have mounts(chocobo or airships). Why? Two people can make another person from scrach before SE can add mounts to this game. Whats going on here?

It is simple they do not care about mounts atm, they are working on the larger changes first.
They already said they are going to start working on them after this patch, so complaining is not going to make the scrap the battle system to add mounts instead.
Because they are not just "adding" mounts as something you pick up and ride like WoW. They are going to have a full fledge raising system ready from the start when chocobos go live and that takes a lot of finalization and programing and bugtesting.
All of these things you are mentioning are great but couldnt we get some barebones form of mount until this amazing system you guys are talking about comes into the game? I mean 9 months without basic transportation? Thats pretty laughable.
This thread's going to end well.
I'm betting it's content saved for PS3 release.
The thing that is causing me grief is I have been playing ffxiv beta/retail for roughly 1 year and other than a very restrictive teleportation system I have to walk everywhere. I dont like this. I am simply stating that I find it crazy that 2 humans can make another living breathing human child in less time than it has taken SE to get us mounts, even some placeholder/barebones mount.
I bet nobody of you read producer's letters. It's stated in the last letter the mount system will come this summer.

look at the very end of chart.
and it's been already clarified "until summer 2011" means from june to august/september (dev post)Quote:
(Remember, these are our plans until summer 2011!)
Your question is been fullfilled ?
While I agree I want chocobos, I fail to see how this is in anyway a fair analogy or comparison to make. All said people have to do is bump naughty bits and the woman's body does the rest. The only way this would be fair is if someone at SE just had to go to a terminal and type in "make chocobos" and the computer does the rest.
Why do you all perpetually buy their bait and switch?
They don't have anything planned for chocobos, because you still believe anything they say to you to justify not having them.
They have nothing planned. You all *actually* think they've been working on the battle system for 6 months, when in reality they started 4 weeks ago. Chocobos are no closer to being in the game than they were a year ago. When they finally do make it into the game, you'll forget your little statement that you made here about how complex the chocobo system is going to be, because YAY CHOCOBOS.
Sad but true, I dont see Chocobos being added until 2012. Someone can quote me on that to either show I was right or that im full of shit :D
Ya i agree with this, Ive been int he game since beta and on these forums since they opened (ZAMs longer) and i not once have heard them say they are doing anything complex with mounts. It has all just been player speculation, and i think a basic mount function as a placeholder, as the OP requests is not that hard to put in game to hold us over for whatever magic plan they have for the future. Also, regardless of these higher priorty things that are in the works right now, chocobos should have been around a while ago. XI had the same problem and its a shame after almost a decade they are still no more efficient at making MMOs. Every other company now a days releases a game and adds to it over time. SE releases an empty world and adds a game over time. This is an archaic practice and should not have been repeated.
One of the Things Tanaka said made as promise (Which Yoshida said he would atleast make all the past promises come true) was that In Addition to how Chocobo's have been used in the Past Final Fantasy's (Raising, Riding, Hot and Cold, Digging) They would also have new unique uses as well this time.
So please do not act like they haven't told us anything. They have, its just been a long time ago that they did.
The continuing problem is that they keep making these promises of more complex design as an excuse as to why said content isn't already out. You thus defer your judgment of them for a later date.
Unfortunately you forget that you already deferred once, twice, three times, because they then promise you something more significant that will take just a little more time. In the meantime, they slip in 20 pathetic quests, and the NMs that were supposed to take months of planning could effectively have been pumped out in a week. And you forget that as you scurry around collecting the gear from them.
Fast forward 9 months later, when SE has yet to produce a single one of these complex features that were supposedly taking up the majority of the last 9 months' effort.
My guess is that they spent the entire 9 months designing, re-designing, and re-re-designing the same crap that's already been released, and almost none of it on the complex things they bought time with.
We'll see if the battle engine really is the fruit of 9 months of labor, or if it's just a pathetic slap-mash of panic done over the last 8 weeks. Their time's almost up on their payment deadline, and there is no more stalling.
Everyone knows that Zolom has a direct line of communication to SE in the same way that Harold Camping has an exact date on the rapture.
Chocobos are not "basic" and require work, but I do agree it is kind of sad they haven't been implemented yet. Shouldn't there have been development on them even before launch? Is it really that far off? Only assumption I can make is, horror of all horrors, Zolom is right and they want to released a plethora of content involving them or they only covered the basic coding of mounting and riding them.
If I were hoping for the best, I would say they could have been working on them this whole time, but just put the priority on the battle system then focus on implementing them later. As many have pointed out in their letters and interviews.
because there are 2 zones (exaggeration obviously) to go to. Why the hell would you pay for a choco or go through the hassle of getting on an airship when you could teleport using anima (which I honestly think should be abolished, or reduced down to like 10 because it really hinders people exploring or walking, more so than choco and airship.) to get to your destination that much quicker.
That's why. I'd be complaining about lack of zones before I do chocobo's and airships.
Priorities, Priorities my friend.
If one of the new features for them is Mounted Combat and fights you can only do while on Chocobo then they have to wait for the battle system to be fixed before they implement that feature anyway. We'll see and yes thats mindless speculation. But so far the only game that had active combat mounts that I know of is AoC.
It is a carrot on a stick. They're abusing the populations' gross ignorance on the lenght of time it actually takes to get things done. They know they can pretend to be hard at work for 10 months of time, then at the last 2 months scrap something together and the player base will be none the wiser.
Except you can't *really* dick around for 4 years of time and only produce 6 months of work with it. Lesson learned in September, right?
Well, no, they've essentially wasted another year of everyone's time, and gotten about 2 more months of work out of it.
Honestly everything added to the game since September should have taken a good developer three months to crank out at most. It's all simple coding, easy gear color swaps and mish-mashes, if it's not straight releasing something that was already finished.
Square Enix is trying to pass off The World Ends With You production values in this game, to try to get away with landing subscription fees for little work. Don't let them.
They think themselves the talented geniuses who can make up for not working for the past 6 months by cramming at the end. It's the same Square Enix arrogance that got them into this mess.
They're not as talented as they think they are. They think they can get away with statements like "we knew the battle engine was just a placeholder" because they think they can just magically **** gold whenever they want.
That company goose died in 2000. It had no children.
I wonder what people mean when they use the term 'mounts'...
Are they talking about anything other than Chocobos?
This would all be valid if it were not for a few things.
1. They are Live Localizing for 4 different Languages.
2. A lot of what they are working on right now is fixes to deep code that deals with combat calculations so that we can finally get Stats that reflect something when you get a bonus to STR or MND or something, Instead of only a .00024% increase per point like we do now.
3. Even when doing color swaps they have to repaint the entire texture for a piece ontop of its normal map so that it fits the mesh and looks right in game. This takes time.
1-2 months when they get down to it. Why?
If you think it is a priority for them yet, well, keep dreaming.
Ask again once the battle/job/dungeon changes are done. Ya know, the things it seems they have been busy with.Quote:
