Let’s talk future.

Let me state that I have played FF11 from May 2004 – Dec. 2010 and FF14 since September 2010. I have seen my fair share of rage posts about quitting and what not. So I’ll try and keep this wall o’ text easy to read. And easy to just skim though for the casual readers out there.
Also, I understand that this thread will be buried by tons of other threads. Just hope one of the forum Mods see this and forwards it up the chain of command.




So there are a few points I’m worried about.

• Future of the game.
• Lack of content.
• Content coming won’t hold players to the game long.
• New players come only to leave few weeks later.

So I’ll go into detail of points above. Feel free to just pass this since it will be a long wall o’ text.

The future of the game will most likely just be patches of content like adding floors to Crystal Tower/Floors to Coil. While that seems to be a fast fix. The Dev. team should tease us with some expansion pack content. Along with expansion, that I know they are working on hinted by Yoshi-P talking about Ishgard and how the PR DPT didn’t want him to talk about it, they need to add new lands to the game and make the world feel huge. Coming off the weekend, I heard from my friends that had ESO beta invites the world felt huge. FF14’s world seems vastly smaller than any MMO, could be because most of the content is in instance. The future of this game seem very bleak which will drive new players away but I’ll get to that later.

Now the game has been out for three months, with new content patch being few weeks away. Many players have already beaten the hardest content in game at this point and because there are no content they don’t log into the game till next Monday just to do coil. Also with little over an hour of instance grind they cap out of tomes so don’t have to worry about that.

Any content they bring out in patches will beat with in week(s). Leaving players with nothing to do but grind the same old instances over again, even if it’s Hard/Extreme versions of old content. Leaving players with say 3 weeks of good solid content to do. Leaving them to wait for next patch. After each cycle of patch the game will lose some of the player base. To take from my first point I made I hope that the Dev. team is working hard on making the first expansion pack a huge one that will double or triple the zones/more content that has to be in open world so Free Companies can play together. Could make the FATEs that lock players’ skills, so it isn’t just lag and button smashing, like disable raise, or some skills, add new types like a survival type. Once a player dies they are forced to leave the FATE, to make room for other players that want to try.

Since I been playing FF14 for a long time I have seen my fair share of new players, even friends who wanted to play with me. Seems like a good chunk of new players don’t want to stay after their 30 free days are up. I can’t speak for them, I can only form ideas why they leave. Most the time I found new players in FF14 ARR asking where do I group up for exp, sadly I have to tell them there is no real grouping to do outside of FATEs. There alone turns many new players away. Seem some of them don’t understand the way FATEs work or are turned off by the idea of LVing up by doing FATEs. I try and also tell them to do the main story line along with any side quests they find in area of said story quest line. This being an MMO they come to play with friends and do content with others. Seem to them all they get are Solo main story line quests, and solo class quests. If I was a new player coming into a new world I want to explore and meet new players. When you come to FF14 ARR you are met with a very single player experience. At lv 20 yes you do first instance, even then you aren’t meeting new players since it is done via Duty Finder. A double sided sword, it helps them do the content, but at same times isolates any players from meeting players from same server in which to play with. Could make an icon to players in duty finder that shows them players on same server as you, so you can meet up after the duty, could help new players plant some roots to help them stay on the game.

In closing.

It’s easy to come up with ways I feel that would help the game grow to be better. I’m only here to voice concerns I have for the future of the game, at this current rate. I only are sharp drop off in player base as patches come out and bring lack luster content. Patches by definition: “something that covers or mends: a piece of material used to cover, strengthen, or mend a hole in something” AKA a temporary fix. I look forward to expansion pack content since it will not be a patch. But lots of new content. Dev. Team I hope you get this and understand, patches can only do so much, just players the long term plan for FF14 ARR. Look back to FF14 1.0 and that roadmap you guys put out for the road to 2.0. I’m not saying put dates on anything since all content should full and complete when it comes to open servers… Looking at you broken Crystal Tower only letting us take 8 people of the same group in and not the full 24.

Honestly I'm not sure the reasoning behind this unless the OP just wanted to reiterate everything for himself that's already been said.

1. Unknown, it's up to the developers to how long to keep this game in service

2.That is biased, Idiots who whine about this are blind to everything else besides "omgz hard core raids"

3. No amount of content holds people for long when they play for long periods, that's why companies have a hard time keeping up with the playerbase

4. happens all the time, people won't always like the games they rush to buy (<-what led 1.0 to ruin, buyers remorse)

Game is doomed.

You think this game's world is small? Go play Pokémon on the handhelds, and then tell me if the world is small in each version. People grind the crap out of those games (like what I do) despite the areas/routes being small. I had over 600 hours in the Crystal version before. Do you think I got bored with that game? Nope.

I'm still playing ARR and having fun. I'm NOT rushing through the content. I'm busy with schoolwork, studying, family, and whatnot. I do not play the game 24/7, but when I DO play the game, I'm content with what there is to do.

One is the biggest issues right now is how the world feels small. That certainly needs to be addressed within the next year and the PR DPT needs to know that the teaser content should start flowing after the release of 2.1.

I have friends who just started playing, They have never bothered about the FF series or the game itself until they got to try.
They got stuck and think the game is among the best there is out there right now.

Poor with content that I think are not. although they say there is so much to do.
But if you burn the content in a month then you blame yourself that you do not have any other time than just sitting play every day for 16 hours.

i got in 1.0 all job / class of 50 started over with my friends on a new server and even realizes that there is so much I missed.
There will be more and more people just need to have some patience.

I had also become angry if it had not happened anything for a whole year then I had also posted something.

So no, I think there's a lot of things in the game you can do right now.

your whole story about the lvl 20 thing and the game sending you to a dungeon, and how you claim that is still a solo experience because you have to use the duty finder...is so false, because you can create your own party of 4 from your own server, at the same time, meeting people.....and use the duty finder to start the dungeon. so get your facts right

Huh. That's weird. And here, I thought my friends and I started the game together, went through every part of the story together, and then finished the main story together. We might not have been grouped up 24/7, but we were always playing together.

And I don't even know how many dungeon runs we've done together. Y'know, the real group content. The one you completely glossed over.

Rushing content. l0l. You can run this game at a snails pace and be done with your main story.
Just because you went as slow as a snail grandma doesn't mean we all did. You act like we should all log on for 1 hour per month
as we're paying this game. Kinda want my money's worth.
Games been out 3 months. It was designed to run to the end and spam the same bs all day.

Just want to say this is no QQ thread. I was bored with nothing to do in game so I decided to do something different and something out of my bubble (If you know me you would know I'm not one to be able to write my thoughts down), instead of standing in town or running an instance for the 100th time.

Ariverderci, that's kind of the point of this thread I guess. I played early access and mainly did the story lines while lved my arcanist at same time, took I think 3 week I went at a snails pace. I don't play this game 16 hours a day or even 6 hours a day. And I have already gotten all relics and on turn 5 of coil. Would have it beat but our groups main tank left server.

The way I see it SE is actually saving me a lot of time with this shortcoming.

Because organising 24 people for raids is a barrel of laughs and always goes smoothly. Not really worried in the slightest about that until I've actually played the content.

Agreed and the open world needs to hold some purpose. I played ESO for an hour in one zone and I felt that one zone alone was bigger than this entire game, I felt more adventure and explored more in that one zone than this entire game. FFXIV right now, as a friend of mine once put is a "Glorified chat room" with some instanced dungeons. Yippee!

Why is "The game is new" a valid agruement as to why they don't have more content? It's not like this is the first MMORPG ever, it's not like they don't understand exactly what the vast majority does in these games, hit level cap then do endgame.

They make a game with very little endgame to speak of so naturally people run out of things to do and complain on the forums. Then those people get attacked by others because they are upset with every right to be. Why should you continue paying a monthly sub for game that has almost nothing to do? What else would you like these people to do? Just leave? Yeah that's why they come to the forums to state they are unhappy about the game and would like to see a change if they thought the game was horrible beyond hope they would just leave.

Yes you can go do other things like level another class/job but it's just a repeat of what you did before, with nothing new to do of course you'll get bored fast.

The game is only 3 years old, give it more time.

This might have been an interesting read if I was obvious to what 2.1 had coming...

If you ask me SE, is just a tad behind schedule in release 2.1 but still with in a reasonable window. I say this because a patch should launch right as everyone is finishing up old content and getting bored. Seems like 3 months is the magic number.

As for the OP, have a look at FFXI patch notes starting from launch and tell me did better.

Lets have the entire WoW content, which was developped in the past few years right now in 3 months final fantasy ARR, cant be that hard eh? Oh wait, pretty sure we lack content again :X

What I'm missing in this game is quality storytelling in sidequests. There should be more effort put to the cutscenes in the future.

Also the beast tribe quests are a good opening for more long-term content but they're kinda pointless when it comes to rewards. I hope these would be connected with better over arching storyline and or gear worth grinding fame for.

I'm a research-monger when deciding to start a new MMO. Too bad my due diligence didn't extend to finding this precious lil tidbit before I subbed ;o(.

Im Worried because there not incentives or worthly rewards for the Dedicated/Hardcore players.

How in the hell a player spend 1 hour per day gaming, wish have the same level of gear of a person who play 12 hours per day? is a incongruity.

"Is like say. Hey Mate look this new employee, he will work 1 hour per day but guess what man!? He will have the same pay as you! and we know you work 40 hours per week yay! ins't great"?

If you are a Casual guy who play 2 times per week ARR. You deserve a respetable ILV85

If you are a dedicated player spend 2 - 4 hours per day gaming. You deserve a rewarding ilv90

If you are a hardcore player you deserve the best items, the best rewards, the more respetable treatment by devs, giving you luxury items like Relic weapons in FFXI, Mythic weapons in FFXI, Ilv100.

This in my opinion is the big mistake of Yoshida. He want a player spend 30 mins in the game per day, have the same level of gear by people play 15 hours per day.

It's not about players having to do less work to get the same as what those who do the hard work get. It's about being able to catch up. With the rate at which the dedicated/hardcore can complete and beat content, even if the patches are 3 months apart, the gap between casual players (and those who don't have the luxury to spend 12 hours a day on a game) would continue to increase. In 6 months time, that 15 hours work will only take 30 minutes, but the new now will still be 15 hours of work. A little convoluted, but it makes sense. It's about relative time.

But, as new content comes out, those dedicate/hardcore will always be the first to get the best items and the best rewards ahead of everyone else. When new content comes out, those who were behind can catch up by doing the now "old" content whilst the dedicated/hardcore continue to push ahead into new realms. It wasn't until FFXI closed the gap with the post-Abyssea content that people started to play it more and new players checked it out. If a game is to survive, it needs to be accessible to the majority of its players. The hardcore make up a very small minority.

Also, I half expect the "This game now is very casual" is more of a case of "it's hard to convey the same meaning in JP to EN". The game is very casual, in the sense that you can pick it up and play (like any casual game out there). It doesn't necessarily mean that "it will never be hard" or that "everything is given to you". Accessibility, I think, is the key thing when it comes to how casual the game is. And in that sense, yes, the game is very casual (accessible). But for a lot of people, it's still quite challenging and somewhat hard. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be people still stuck at Titan HM.

I think most people take the whole concept of "casual" out of context and don't think of things relatively.
