suggestion about shield swipe (pld)

please give shield swipe an enmity bonus increase, as well as removing it from the GCD.

I haven't used it AT ALL since I got it, quite frankly because without both a +enmity factor, and it being on the GCD, its fucking worthless

please fix :)

I too would love shield swipe to be made a more useful and viable ability, especially since it is proc based.

If it's going to be OGC, then it needs a cooldown as well. Based on potency and comparisons with Spirits Within it would probably be 25-30 seconds.

I don't think that it being compared to something like Spirits is a fair comparison since it is only useable after you have blocked an attack.
A short cooldown like 5 seconds so that it is not spammed and going back to you regular combo rotation is better, yes. A long cooldown like 25-30 seconds, eh not so much.

210 potency off the global cooldown, spammable every time you block is rediculous for a tank. If you want it off the global, it either needs a long cooldown or much lower potency.

Shield Swipe is fine as it is, its a buffer to prevent us from TP starving once our threat is stable. Putting it off GCD will cause happy triggers to go TP starved faster and put the distance between tank DPS even further between Warrior and Paladin.

You can opt to have enmity increase but it should not be a get out of jail free card which is not on a CD and cost so little. Cause Warriors have 2 enmity increase skill, giving a flexible 3 one to Paladin is going to rock the balance.

It's pretty miserable attack. It amounts to like a 0.0001% increase in DPS for most fights and the net gain in TP is irrelevant as PLDs have Flash which is worth triple the TP regeneration.

Just turning it into an OGCD ability is for the best. It doesn't require much work to implement and it makes PLD a little less boring.

I agree that making it an OGCD ability would spicen up PLD. I don't think it needs an enmity bonus for this, just OGCD for extra things to do between 1 2 3. That is one thing I love about PLD, just waiting for that Spirit's and CoS to press. Give it an over CD (not as high as the others) so it can't be spammed, and it'd be a step in the right direction. Make it a function of Bulwark to lower that CD as well, for some fun time.

I believe it was intended to be a TP throttler in that you don't burn as much TP when using it.

It should remain on the GCD to serve that purpose but it should also have its threat significantly increased so it is no longer a net threat loss.

Is this game-breaking? No. Are PLD fine without such a change? Yes. Would it be nice? Yes.

The devs have more important things to worry about than to adjust a class which is perfectly fine as is right now.

I do like it for the minor DPS bump and significant TP recovery with Bulwark, but I agree that giving it an Enmity bonus would be quite welcome. I don't think there's any need to remove it from the GCD, especially since it doesn't break your combo.

As for Flash, you can't use it as often as you can use Shield Swipe (since you'd just run out of MP), it does no damage while still using a GCD, and in some fights that MP is better spent on Stoneskin. So it's definitely only sometimes an improvement over Shield Swipe.

As for giving PLD more off-GCD offensive abilities, I agree that one or two more would be quite welcome.

Shield swipe would be better I imagine if it was a passive improvement to shield bash, i.e. all shield bashes after a block = shield swipe. That would make it an effective TP throttle I imagine.

I use it when I have established enough aggro (past 3+ Rage of Halone combos). Since it costs 40 TP, has some good DPS, and is a GCD skill, so it contributes to TP regen. Do keep in mind that for long fights, PLD doesn't have TP recovery abilities - we only rely on using Flash for the occasional Blind/MP Drain, or Shield Swipe where possible.

Shield Swipe is neat on trash (which is pretty much just Ifrit and below) and pretty underwhelming everywhere else. I use it to save TP and because the animation looks cool, but I could probably take it off my bar and not notice in 90% of situations. It'd be cool if it comboed into Circle of Scorn or Spirits Within (or both), so that blocking and proccing it was kind of a party starter like Phalanx was in 1.0. Paladin combos are really lacking too, so that could be a start.

screw shield swipe, I want enhanced Flash to work on bosses.

Too much cumfest when you manage to Dodge Death Sentence on Twintania on the side note it still works on Mini Snakes at Coil 5. Not sure for the Big snake. 22 seconds of Blind, capable of blinding every Death Sentence is just too much.

Suppose so, but they could always modify death sentence to ignore debuffs like blind. In any case, enhanced flash has become useless in the content that matters, and that makes me sad.

OP its not worthless its an additional damage output for your hate rotation as using it doesn't stop your combo !.

I feel like the pacification effect on it is wasted with it both a proc and being on GCD. They could make it a lot more interesting if both warrior and paladin had a skill to that effect but it was on cooldown, off GCD. Combat mechanics could then easily be put in to fights that would require it's use.

Right now the way stuns and silences and pacification works its all just a huge clusterfuck of abilities totally lacking focus.

Shield Swipe is unnecessary as a TP throttle, as we have flash. It's clear that DPS isnt a Tank's responsibility in this game, so without a threat modifier the damage is next to useless outside of soloing. Since there is no content worth soloing, or even difficult to solo. There isnt a point to it in that regard either.

This ability is the Paladin's Steel Cyclone. Its just sorta there, not knowing what to do with itself. It fills a very niche role, and in the fights it can be effectively used it almost requires a large threat lead and a boatload of luck to even properly execute. And even if you can properly execute it, you can almost always (maybe always) more reliably get the same results with shield bash.

That aside, I do use it to pump out that little extra bit of DPS when I get a comfortable threat lead. But that doesnt make it any less poorly designed.

Shield Bash is pretty lackluster in its current implementation.

Changing it to an off GCD ability makes the most sense. PLD could use a little more DPS when they're getting beat on. But it either needs a long cooldown if it's to keep the current potency or the potency would need to be greatly reduced (still with a short cooldown so you can't spam it during Bulwark).

If it is going off GCD it needs to not cost TP and have a CD. But this would just push the Tank DPS race even wider. Shield Swipe is just there to throttle your TP usage and it is doing it's job fine. And cause of that Skill Speed isn't all useless compared to Warrior. Changing the incantation of Shield Swipe would put Skill Speed in the same category as it is to Warrior.
