Azury's Guide to Boting for Gil

One thing I have noticed is that a lot of people are not maximizing their bot's potential. It also seems like a lot of people choose to bot in low-return areas. This has kind of confused me so I asked some of the people why they didn't bot elsewhere and they seemed to be unaware that there are significant differences in location. That is why I chose to post this in the general forum. I'm hoping some people will read it and not make the same mistake many others do when they begin boting.

As a result I've created this simple guide which I'm guessing can also apply to mining. The point of this guide is to explain how to best maximize gil from boting by targeting specific trees + gathering locations and generating a patterned approach.

To begin with we will look at the most profitable logs:
Walnut logs - seem to average from 8k - 10k depending on server
Yew logs - seem to average from 5k - 8k depending on server
Next we will look at the most profitable gathering items:
Flax - averages around 3000 each.

Your server may have different values, or other items in high demand. If so just use the techniques in this guide and visit http://www.disciplesoftheland.com in order to find where items are located.

How to bot for gil:
Step 1: If you are only able to log a tree 1 to 4 times, get as much +output gear as you can in order to increase the amount you can log.

Step 2: know the sweet spot of the item you are targeting and always log at that sweet spot when on the corresponding tree. Check botany forums for lists of sweet spots.

Step 3: Pick an area, visit http://www.disciplesoftheland.com and determine where the "profit" trees and gathering spots are. In order to master this you will need to spend a few hours logging. After a while you will know exactly what tree gives what logs and what gathering spots give what items.

Step 4: Pick 4 spots. Cycle through those 4 spots in order non-stop. I believe it either takes 2 or 3 diff nodes before you are able to log the same node again so thats why you pick 4.
For example: @ Humblehearth east of leve: flax-harvesting spot > Walnut tree > Oak tree > elm tree.
If the trees aren't available, substitute one of the trees or harvesting spots just to the west of the leve.

Step 5: Sell and Profit.

Why bot this way? Because you will end up with just as much sp or more (since you end up running around less), you will not have an inventory full of useless stuff, and you can focus on getting the most profitable items.

Best Locations:

Grade 3
Tranquil: Flax
Bloodshore: walnut


Grade 4
Humblehearth: walnut + flax
Cedarwood: walnut + yew

Grade 5
treespeak: walnut + flax

I hope this guide has helped you. Botany is one of my fav jobs in this game and I would highly recommend if you haven't tried it, that you do.

the Abreevistion isn't really BOT its BTN.
BOT= cheat
BTN= botany. (sp)

Also the higher the level the more trues you get based on the grade.
like a lvl 11 on a grade 1 spot = 6 tries. While a lvl 1 on a grade 1 = 3 tries.

thats why i spelled it boting and not botting. Bot is a major class in the game ;x i figured it would be obvious.

And its not really farming because the guide is written for people levelling up bot. It just i always see people running all around areas to get to trees and getting sp from stuff that doesn't sell. If people use this method they will make more gil, be able to level up woodworking, and other woodworkers will have more product to buy. So everyone wins.

and how would you even pronounce btning? boting seems to be the logical abbreviation for gathering on botany class.

When you go on miner do you say your farming? I'm under the impression everyone says they are mining. Farming is kinda general, and this guide is botany specific.

I mean if:
your catching fish: fishing
Your getting ores from a mine: mining
your cutting down logs: logging
your getting stuff from a harvest spot: harvesting
so if your doing botany shouldn't it be: boting?

um...many player on our server are using the word "Bot" or "Botty" as a general term for botany so it's understanable.
It's easier to spell, besides i dont think anyone is too bothered with actual "Botting" on our server, we have a fair going economy on wutai.
Anyone wanna cheat / botting thats their problem.

its just a title. don't get why its such a big deal. A lot of people on my server seem to call it bot or boting when talking in linkshell. So i'm just going to stick with it

Just curious what kind of gil outcomes you get after say 3 hours?

depends on your level and what nodes you choose. id say in 3-4 hours you can go into hard fatigue where you can't get any more items. So in that time you could get lets say 35 yew 35 walnut and a few +1s and +2s and +3s.
so lets say about 200k for yews, 300k for walnut, and then make 100 for the extra + logs. so about 600k every 2 days.

You can make significantly more mining i believe. I just personally like botany.

I find Treespeak has a nice grind area for walnut. Of course it's only 1 tree and then your wasting your next 2 slots with a harvesting and a quary node. Low lvl mining can help the transition be much faster.

First eft camp by Treespeak has the walnut tree of choice for me.

Can make thousands more with Alchemy so I'll stick to that, defiantly good guide though for those who hate choring shards.

i stated why i didn't. My problem was that lots of ppl just start bot without looking at guides cuz its not exactly difficult to do, and as a result they don't realize how to make a profit from it or be efficient in it. So i was hoping by posting here lots of general people would give it a quick glance and not make the same mistake so many others have.

Granted here you got already a lot of attention, but if it's the kind of attention you seeked I wonder. Starting with the confusing term of bot which, even if you and many others use it referring to the logging/harvesting class, posted in general forum just leads to hacking programs. I personally look under botanist forums if I look for a guide, and I was a little shocked seeing this thread (thinking how dare someone post a guide to botting!).

if people are assuming boting is about cheating and not botany that just means people generally assume lots of people bot in this game. If people didn't expect a guide for cheating, their subconscious would quickly have associated boting with botany. The fact that people automatically assumed cheating is just an indication that they expect cheating to be a part of this game.

You made an awesome guide, with an awesomely-misleading title.... it's FUNNY. And anyone who thinks otherwise should really grow a sense of humor, IMO.

(for the record: when I go out to collect lumber, I refer to the action as "Logging" or "Lumberjacking", but that's just me)

selling flax hurts wvr/alchemists souls, if you know one person who is leveling up the class you should ask them before selling it. Just saying 3000 gil to sell it back but its like 30-80k dont remember sorry just to buy a flax from the vendor. I do botany for my wvr basically, and flax is something I /angry at my friends for npcing. Maybe even try selling on market wards for 8-9k. Seriously don't npc something the economy actually needs, or else it becomes increasingly to hard/expensive to level the class like Leatherworker is at times.

I'm sure this topic will continue to fill with serious face comments about how they were distraught that you named it that because it ruffled their Victorian petticoats and now high tea is forever ruined.

Yes, Boting can be taken to mean "botting" as in cheating and most will miss the acute spelling of boting sans the second t but, that aside, who really cares? If it ruffles your feathers you need to grow a sense of humour as someone said earlier and get over yourself.
