I know the storyline did drag on a bit around the 'Company of Heroes' section prior to, as most of the story quests in that part of the game were indeed just filler to stretch the storyline out to allow a more consistant levelling experience, but I agree it was pretty weak (even Y'shtola lampshades it during one scene, saying the fate of Eorzea is at stake and you're being sent around to gather wine and cheese! ;)). But it greatly improves after that.fighting Titan SM and the attack on the Waking Sands. The scenes after defeating Garuda SM for instance, are certified awesome.
Really though, it seems to me you just don't like a story based MMO, in which case FFXIV sadly isn't for you - it's a FF game after all and storyline has always been a major part of the series.
Final fantasy has always had story mode as a means of progression. I don't really think SE will change the way they've been developing a lot of their FF titles.
Are you serious?
I think the main story shouldn't have had the filler. The main story tends to bring you to various towns/regions where there are sidequests your level anyway, so we didn't need so many MAIN story quests to level 1-50 with main story quests exclusively. I'd have preferred if say... we had a main quest every couple levels, like with job/class quests, and for those who need the EXP, there's the local sidequests, dungeons, etc. The filler BS really dragged down the quality of the story too. But its too late to change any of that now.
Personally though, I don't really see the diff between having main story quests and side quests. Just skip the cutscenes if you don't like them.
I'd stick with it for your first job. It does get better in the mid 40s to 50 and at the very least it's a proper storyline in an MMO, which is more than can be said for most of the games in the genre.
For alternatives they are there such as fates and dungeon runs, but the exp will be gimped compared to if you were doing them as a 2nd job.
this would be the most useless thing square could spend development time for (developing extra content for the extreme small minority of players so they can skip vital content which they only have to do once)
Idea absolutely rejected, end of story.
Final Fantasy has always been story driven. Go back to WoW.
Yoshi has already said the main story and level 1 to 50 is a tutorial, i don't see any problems with that. I think it'll be better if the devs focus on delivering more future content rather than going back to main story quests.
Stop being a baby and just skip the cutscenes and finish the main story, then its done and you never have to do it again. If you dont like prerequisites, then you sure as hell wont like endgame. The whole game is "Do A to unlock B. Do B to unlock C. Etc." Just doing the main story would be easier and quicker then sitting here pouting and demanding they create an entirely separate main story to unlock all the same things, just for you.
I dont go on the Call of Duty forums and rant and rave about how I'm being unjustly "FORCED" to shoot people. "WHY SHOULD I BE FORCED TO PLAY WITH GUNS AND KNIVES!?"
if you can't take some sort of criticism then that sorta makes you look like a baby ;p
i think we can classify wildsprite as another whinging topic as "THERE IS SO LITTLE TO DO IN ENDGAME" well no sh*t, its a newly released mmo, what did you expect, to have the same amount end game content wow (present) has now?
You haven't even finished the main story, let alone not even capped, you have barely done anything in gathering and crafting, so i think its fair to say your just like kid who has something but wants more and more, never grateful for what you already have, yet when people give you there opinions you completely flip it because it doesn't compliment your own opinions and you throw a tantrum then you start being hypocritical after calling everyone else the baby and blah blah blah.
For a game to be remade like this, with all new content in the span of a few years, with all the criticism it had received. Its done a pretty damn good job being successful so far.
first, I never complained there was little or nothing to do, not once. what I did complain about was an overly drawn out story and people came in and told me what they thought about it. that is about the end of it. my opinion of most of the people that post on these forums stands though.
what I asked for was side quests to allow us access to DF dungeons rather than main story quests. it was a request and nothing more. this will be the last thread I make in general discussion since the majority seem to think my ideas suck anyway
Not to interrupt your hissy fit, but new posters like the one you're getting hysterical with don't know what you asked/said, except what's been quoted, because you deleted all your posts and replaced them with:
Wildsprite: A true paragon of community and maturity!
Gotta say, I do think that the story is awful.
well i apologize for the most part, as since you deleted your first post, the posts afterwards made it look like you said something completely else along with the Topic title.
I do agree with the part of most dungeons can only be unlocked via story, and there is only a few dungeons that are not story related. Personally i feel uncomfortable with the progress of the story hanging on to if you can get into a group for a dungeon or not and if the group is good enough to complete it with you or not. It would leave issues for people down the track of this game who start playing a few years later. Would of been somewhat more reassuring if the Main story stayed as main story and if it did have to go to dungeon that it would a be a solo version of it with AI controlled companions. As most Duty Calls phases you cant even do it with a party.
Again, are you serious?
I didn't even get the opportunity to offer a lending ear and an honest opinion :(
I could've done without having to prove myself through 9001 fetch quests to every faction I encountered, but that aside I actually enjoyed the story.
That and the eloquence. Does every damn NPC need to give me his/her entire life story? I -did- feel disconnected from all of the Scions not named Y'shtola and even she was kind of uninteresting.
Ahahaha no, nononononono. Warcraft is story driven.
WoW is a loosely based Warcraft fanfiction that is terribly written. Its saving grace is its amazing gameplay and their lightning fast content releases though.
I like the main story, but I did read the 1.0 story on the wiki and I feel like there were a lot more plot points. There's also an incredible amount of Lore in this game which is nice. There's like 5 umbral eras that we know nothing about still o.O and like everyone said, just treat the main story like sidequests (skip the cutscenes) if you don't like it.
What I miss a bit is the connection between different Storylines, even Sidestory should have some connection to the main one.
That makes it more like a "oh, its an evil masterplan" or you get the feeling "the world is at stake".
Compared to 1.x we are now the heroes, that is good, but now our "guides" have become seriously "dump" and "weak"... I expect a bit more from Y'shtola and the others.
Currently it feels like there is one cut after another and seriously, to be forced to level up just to continue to deliver stuff when it is an emergency... seriously?
The cutscenes are awesome, even some Storyquests are... but why couldnt they continue that and used fillers instead? Comon, Yoshi-P said they have a Team working on it - is that, what we have really the best you can do?
I love FFXIV but the story and its pacing are a wreck. Too many pointless fluff missions, too repetitive. Go to a place, earn their trust (this takes a ton of missions where you do nothing but chores and play fetch), something bad happens, fight guy, boom. Repeat this a bunch of times and if you've been a good boy/girl this year, Santa Claus may just gift you with a dungeon in between!
As bad as FFXI was in some aspects, the stories were done so much better, excluding the mini-addons.
And yet they spent quite a lot of time on the quest based progression where, and let's be honest - majority of people skip the text or realize that most of the quests are exactly the same with different words thrown in. Nothing is a "waste", it's simply called priorities.
