Give TP classes an MP Sprint

I would like a Sprint that I can use as DRG that doesn't cripple my ability to do damage long-term (Invigorate can only do so much). On the flip-side, I really enjoy being able to Sprint on my SMN without being penalized in any way. An MP-dump Sprint on my DRG would be really nice to have.

Maybe if, as a melee class, I had an innately faster runspeed than ranged classes (as they do in many other MMOs) I wouldn't feel lacking for a Sprint. As things are though on certain encounters MP based classes who can Sprint freely have an advantage over TP classes when dealing with boss mechanics.

its unfair for meele classes to have their tp dump while sprint on the other hand caster dont mind dumping tp because they dont use it so its only fair to remove the Resource Dump at all. Dumping Mp as a bard would be problematic what if you want to sprint and use mages ballad to help tank and healer?. this method of dumping a resource to use a useful too like sprint its outdated and counterproductive

A blanket 1m CD Sprint for all classes that uses no resources would work, too.

Would be handy for tanks as well.

Frankly speaking, I don't feel the need for it.

I don't really sprint on any class in battle. There's just no need to.

Sprint shouldn't use any resources, or at worst it should drain like, 100-200 TP and thats it, instead of doing this retarded drain all TP thing and lasting variable seconds.

One of these casters can die by one single ability that for you should mean half of your life, so is okay that they can use sprint

Thats not true. Casters have a significantly higher magic defense, so they take much less damage from most AOEs in this game.

It would make a lot more sense to just make Sprint on a cooldown rather than draining TP at all. As a caster I don't care about it, but as a DoW Sprint is almost 100% useless in a dungeon.

You have to think about what a free sprint would bring to a PVP setting. It would completely change the game. Sprint would become the most used ability class wide and would change the dynamic of player versus player completely...

Probably the best idea. Not necessarily 1 minute CD (it can be 20-30 seconds) though.

The real question to get the developers attention is how does the current TP dump sprint affect the upcoming addition of the Wolves Den in addition to the already glaring issue it has in giving casters a clear advantage in evading mechanics in current pve.

Lancer has gap closers
Warrior has the new lasso
Paladin has nada
Monk has nada... then again who is going to stand still long enough for monk to get up all their buffs and debuffs making current rendition of monk in pvp pointless.

Not sure if trolling or stupid. Check some characters out in lodestone if you dont believe me. A geared BLM has roughly 600 magical defense at endgame while a MNK/BRD has roughly 400 and a DRG 300.

Physical defense is irrelevant when it comes to AOEs.

That's what I was thinking (Sprint to evade mechanics in PvE) rather than Sprint as a gap closer. Lately when doing Coil T5 I wish I had a Sprint that didn't wipe all my TP which is what prompted me to post this. There were other instances before that of course (Titan HM is a good example) where being able to use Sprint freely would've made dealing with mechanics easier but in T5 I need to sprint several times throughout the fight and it doesn't feel fair to me that other classes can do so without incurring the same penalty I do (as if the fight wasn't more difficult for melee already).

Also, SE has stated in the past that PvP will use a different set of abilities/your abilities won't work the same as they do in PvE. The point being "X change that helps balance PvE would imbalance PvP" is a moot point.

Yea, it is balanced though since I think the HP difference might make up for it. Not sure.
I think casters may take more overall damage unless they are very geared.

Still not a good reason for melee to not have sprint. They are not glass cannons.

Sprint that doesn't drain TP will be broken in PvP. If you to put it in line just put a 20% MaxMP cost drain on it too, so caster's can't spam it and outrun people in PvP or risk being OOM'ed. Besides, Sprint is meant to be used in conjunction with Invigorate in PvP to not be OP.

Only person who needs sprint in Coil 5 would be the mini-snakes kiting tank. Then again it is situational and only if the snakes manage to chase up, you can just Shield Lob till you're low on TP and sprint with that 200 TP left to acquire the gap of not being hit. There is no need to sprint during dive bomb, there is no need to rush to the dreadknight always post snake phase, and you definitely don't need Sprint for Twister.

You can position stuff in PvE and require less sprinting but not for PvP.

BTW, BLM/WHM/SMN/SCH all have such low Defense that your range skill attack as melee have a very high chance of interrupting their spells. For Bard it's basically like... No cast for you.

The justification I'm seeing for casters having a resource devoted entirely to sprint (especially with its current duration, ESPECIALLY in PvP) while melee have to choose between a gap closer and doing DPS is hilarious.

I roll Sprint whenever avaiable in dungeons - there's no reason not to, and if it helps me dodge even 1 aoe, it's worth it. It's an advantage I have that other classes don't. Want to prove a tradeoff? Prove SE's design, because as it stands, there is no tradeoff melee receives.

Typically the only time I've used sprint in battle is every now and then for the second boss in wp when he targets me. And also to run past the stalker, and it is annoying using it to run away and then having to wait for all of my tp. I don't really know of anywhere where any of the classes would actually NEED to use sprint, its just something that can be helpful to every class, so yeah it shouldn't just penalize melee dps. I think a longer cooldown and no tp/mp drain would be very fair.

Casters: Sprint should use TP.
Non casters: Sprint should use MP.
BRDs: Sprint should use HP. All of it.

Of course there is, get out of danger quicker, do more DPS, get a crucial heal off faster. The DPS increase is actually huge, most games don't let you have speed boosts this fast in battle.

Ranged classes are more mobile than melee right now.

I hope you all know this is a mistake, in pvp and pve.

Ranged destroy melee (generally) in WoW even, where melee have tons of gap closers, slows, and interrupts and other CC. They also tend to beat melee in dps as well, even when melee are less punished than our melee are and have more mobility to increase uptime.

Really, SE has this class design completely backwards.

Ya really could just become a skill, but the reason sprint is TP is because mages have cast times, which put them in attack areas and this gives the option to stop and bail or finish and maybe escape, but with the server latency issue it is almost pointless to do it at all.

Just do not allow mages to use tp in PvP only, or half the tp pool so it is not as long and still has the cooldown which also could be increased. Really hard to judge PvP if a huge population has yet to actually test it.

Well as a BRD I'd prefer MP drain over TP, still not the greatest of choices.

But bard does not really need it since we can move and attack at the same time, still though would rather burn off my TP to sprint because of invigorate than waste my MP which maybe needed for the healers.

Outside Limit Breaks, no Melee has to root themselves to be 100% effective; Part of their design is to be mobile to be most effective.

That's why Casters get a free sprint. Given the way Location is pinged, Casters need that extra bit of move speed on demand because, in most cases, if you're casting when the Boss begins casting their ability, you're likely going to get hit. You either use Sprint to get out in time, or you move ahead of time, in both scenarios you lose DPS time.

Once Melee gets their damage adjusted accordingly and Ranged get a slightly higher priority on Boss abilities, the need for Caster Sprint only becomes more apparent while the need for a free PDPS sprint will only be because of PvP.

This thread should be rewritten as "Remove resource drain on sprint." Casters do not use TP at all, but we use MP.
