Might just be equivalent. Get GLA to 50, your Knight will be 50 when used in a party setting. They said they wanted Classes to be used in solo and Jobs to be used in parties.

A lot of folks disagreed with the advanced class system in XI where you had to start over at level one if you got an advanced class. This might be acknowledging that criticism.
