low manning dungeons
I was kind of thinking of an interesting idea wheb reminiscing about my old FFXI days.
The thing I enjoyed most sbout FFXI is that I played with mainly with one friend. Obviously I had a end game linkshell to do the relevant content but me and friend used to challenge ourselves to duoing things which didnt seem all that possible. I was RDM and my friend was THF we used to go around duoing things like bune and charybdis which even some 6 man groups would struggle to kill. The challenge was huge and it took a lot longer. However the sense of achievement was massive.
Anyway, onto my point. I would like to be able to enter dungeons with less than the normal amount of people.
Yes the rewards can be the same but the challenge is greater therefore making it more fun. Also less people means more chance you will get the gear you want.
Imagine ifirt HM with only 4 people. To be able to do this you would need gear which way surpasses anything you can obtain from ifrit. But the challenge of pushing you and your 4 man team to the limit would be immense to say the least. And all of the above would keep older content used.
Please my idea is only basic and comes from my need to thrive on new challenges and finding extreme ways to achieve things
If you can expand on this that would be great

"Thank you" for not using the search function.

There is already a way to do content with fewer people.. Get 4 of your friend together, queue for DF and once you get in, Tell them you all are not doing anything until they all leave, then use /sit and wait.

I was kind of hoping for a more friendly and official way of achieving this. Thanks anyway

I believe you can "walk in" to dungeons with fewer people than are required to enter with the duty finder.
-
The DF prevents it. If you que with 3 of 4 the DF gives you the 4th and won't load in until a 4th joins.
Imo, every dungeon should have an entrance that we can walk into manually. So if we walk in the entrance with 3, we go in with 3 bypassing the DF completely.
-
They said they might allow something like this in the future, hopefully sooner then later.
-
I wouldnt want to use the DF for this game play at all. This is something you would do with a skilled group of friends and just bypass the DF all together

Reminds when we did Tam Tara from the 2nd to last boss without healer and Copperbell without Tank, it was hard but it was fun.
They said that they will add the possibility to enter with less than 4 people and use chocobos inside but they never said when.
-
Go duo chimera! Can enter it with however many people you want.

I agree this would be super fun. We have had to 3-man titan, 2-man Stone Vigil, etc. due to ppl quitting and then we just don't fill the spot. SO FUN. For now we stick to all WAR on WP or PLD heals for primals, etc. to play around and its super fun.

I was about to make a new thread on this topic, but I'll post on the old one instead:
I usually join in progress whenever I can for dungeons, for the animus book requirements.
Most of the time I see the group is still not full (missing either a healer or tank usually) and if I've got time, I'll try attempting the dungeon before waiting for the group to become fully 4/4, depending on the willingness of the rest of the members there.
The last one I had was Stone Vigil where it was just myself as BLM with a SMN. We managed to get the first section all cleared of trash using sleep aoes and titan-egi. Then we were able to clear the first boss by changing to healer gear (level sync'd coil accessories) and spamming physicks.
It made the fight incredibly more tough but it was still do-able and strangely very rewarding to know it could be done without a healer or tank. We then found a tank enter and managed to trio the next boss, I suspect that one can't be duo'd by the DPS but I may be wrong.
I guess the key is having some sort of caster or kiter to either recover a little by or prevent damage entirely. Plus pet jobs certainly come in very handy for this sort of challenge. I heard a long while back that a SCH managed to solo AK using their fairy.
My only concern really is when the remaining party members in the group check the Vote Abandon button, usually because they aren't aware that they can just leave without taking any penalty since the group isn't full. When this happens, you have to leave the dungeon if the majority vote to abandon and you choose to stay and finish.

I believe there is new content confirmed for 1-2 players.
