Enemy list in parties should be populated by the party.

Hello,

As it currently stands, the enemy list is only populated by enemies against which you have incurred hate.

In a party situation, DPS classes need to incur hate on each mob before the enemy list becomes populated and efficient (in helping targeting). Tanking classes, healers, and AoE attackers do not feel this since they incur hate on everyone immediately.

I think this goes against the utility of the enemy list, and at least in dungeons, if should be shared by the entire party. This would make targeting easier and seeing information about the battle more efficient, which would seem to be in line with the idea of the enemy list.

Tl;dr: Enemy list should be party-wide, not just based on who you caused hate on, to make targeting easier for single-target attackers.

I'd love to see this as well, if only to make playing on gamepad a lot more awesome next patch since we will finally be able to target through the enemy list.

I recently started playing DPS (bard) and came to the forum to post this exact request. Good thing I did a search first. I sometimes cheat and fire off an AoE attack just to populate my enemy list. Unfortunately this sometimes sends a few mobs my way if I forget to wait for the tank's flash.

A way to switch targets via the enemy list when using controller would be a good start.

They already added one in 2.1:

while it is nice you can cycle through enemy targets using the new implementation of 2.1. it doesn't help much if the enemies aren't in the list in the first place. which is the issue the OP is describing.

i think an option to toggle this behavior would be most suitable. cause some players may like it how it is now. while other will want the entire list immediately.


EDIT : you could try Filter Customization or Target Filter Settings in Character Configuration>Control Settings>Filters. there is a box for All Enemies and Aggroing Enemies. i play PS3. so i dunno if this will help. but maybe it will.

Wouldn't it be easier to just click "Focus Target" and "Target of Target"?

Or am I one of the few people that actually waits for the tank to mark stuff and take aggro before start DPSing?

I make use of target filter, so when I tab I can only target enemies. I have no longer used the default tab behavior so I have forgotten how it works but it seems to be similar, only different in target selection priority.

I have an Arcanist and even in lower levels where I don't have access to Bane, I don't feel any difficulty in party situations to find targets. Enmity list doesn't help much because it doesn't display target markings, and I need to attack the target the tank had marked. Having the enmity list populated entirely doesn't help me

i know what you mean by that. low level tanking is horrid. most people don't wait for or follow the marks. it gets better around mid-level. and well at high level the tank always seem to be respected.

but for the focus target thing and as for my suggestion too. they are more of a work-a-around. and not a real solution to the exact thing the OP describes.

if you are on the PS3 you have to create macros for Focus Target and Assist.

/focustarget
sets current target as Focus Target. to remove select Focus Target and use again.

/target <f>
Targets Focus Target

/assist (OR /target <tt>)
Target the target of your target.

some commands that are useful for game-pad users.

Doesn't work as well when you are the tank, and you want to make sure you're taunting the Giant Whatsit with the suddenly not-red enmity dot and not the pack of Whosits minding their own business across the room.

There are situations where targeting through the enmity list isn't that great. But it's nice for situations where you want to hit specific aggro'd mobs or all aggro'd mobs, and have other mobs near enough to worry about. It'd be even nicer if it did populate from the party instead of individually. It'd also be nice if there were text commands to go along with the keybindings, and if the enmity list did show markings.

Using Target of Target to attack what the tank is works ok for a healer who wants to throw out an occasional attack without changing their targeting setup, but isn't very good for DPS classes. DPS should usually target an enemy and keep hitting that same enemy until its dead. The tank, on the other hand, is likely to be cycling around between all the enemies in order to maintain hate on everything. Following the tank's target would spread DPS out too much when it should instead be focused on Target 1.

I think a combination of adding all engaged mobs to the enemy list (as Thalassocrat suggested in the opening post here) and adding the marking signs to the enemy list (as Bixby suggested) would make targeting the right mob far easier for both DPS classes and tanks.

It gets annoying when my character is just standing there doing nothing because I'm busy hitting next-next-next-next-next-next-next-next (left or right on controller, I guess tab would be the equivalent on PC) just hoping target 1 (or 2 or whatever we're on by that point) will eventually show up as targeted so I can start attacking.

Soooooo glad I found this thread! Is there anywhere I can read up on how to use Targeting Filters or any other method of cycling through enemies fast and accurately enough to pull my own weight and not embarrass myself? I'm running an Arcanist, I just hit 35th and went through Qarn. My apologies to the party that carried me through... My inability to target quickly was blatantly obvious when the first boss's adds started insta-killing the tank. I really need to fix this problem! I've got all the other mechanics down solid but speed cycling to find the right target only to pass it by and then have the target rotation switch up to hide the target again is extremely frustrating.
